* MagnificentBastard:[[ProfessionalKiller Sirhan Dogen]] is the aformentioned blind assassin responsible for killing the former president of Zheng Fa, along with the primary supplier of the prison, having blackmailed the Warden Patricia Roland, into giving him and other prisoners anything they wanted by threatening her life. [[spoiler:Standing up to De Killer to save his adopted son, outtwiting Edgeworth, and letting himself be arrested so he could get revenge on his enemies, Dogen and Keyes execute a masterful revenge plot to get every single one of their enemies convicted. When Keyes falls under suspicion for the murder, Dogen has his attack dog take the victim's body into the prison and removes the chisel to decrease suspicion on Keyes. When confronted later on about being the mastermind, Dogen [[GracefulLoser gracefully accepts defeat]] and reveals that the mastermind is his "acolyte" whose life he saved as a child. Affable, deceptive, and cunning, Dogen got his desire of having a new cellmate in Keyes.]]

* MagnificentBastard:
** The nefarious yet seemingly-affable Simon Keyes, a circus animal trainer, poses as an innocent defendant while truly manipulating the entire game's events from the shadows. In the first two cases, Keyes sets up an assassination attempt on the president's body double; and convinces Miles Edgeworth to go against the Prosecutorial Investigation Committee (PIC) and gets Edgeworth to defend him for murder. Intercepting the correspondence between Sirhan Dogen and Horace Knightley, Keyes tricks the Prison Warden into killing his former friend. In the fourth case Keyes sets up the Chairman of the PIC to kill an attorney, then gets Miles--who has been stripped of his Prosecutor Badge--to defend the amnesiac Kay Faraday for the murder. Even when defeated by Miles in the end, Keyes congratulates his WorthyOpponent and ultimately succeeds in "taking care of" all of his own and Dogen's enemies.

** Colias Palaeno is rather well liked due to being genuinely helpful and cooperative to Edgeworth's investigation, as well just being a NiceGuy. It can be said his presence in "Turnabout Ablaze" helped the case from being ''too'' contentious (though obviously not entirely, if you look at the tropes here)
** Cammy Meele is also a surprisingly popular character for a character who only appears in a single, short case, owing to her [[MsFanservice very attractive]] design and [[spoiler:being a surprisingly competent and intelligent killer, putting together a solid plan to cover a spur killing in minutes after committing it, and only failing because of something she couldn't have planned for. That she desperately pleads that she didn't mean to commit the murder also earns her a decent amount of sympathy from fans, especially in a game criticized for its killers lacking depth.]]

* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** For someone who appears in only one case, Horace Knightley is popular with the fans. [[spoiler: Mostly because of his relationship with the Big Bad]].
** Gregory Edgeworth gets half a chapter dedicated to him and it instantly demonstrates why he was so beloved by everyone around him. He's a calm, friendly, and rational lawyer who has great interactions with Raymond Shields, the contestants at Masters' party and [[spoiler:Manfred Von Karma.]] He's a formidable protagonist without being too flawless, as he was [[spoiler:sadly too naive for his own good, making his death all the more tragic.]]
** Sebastian is also one of the most well-liked characters by people who've played the game, who cite his development as being one of the best in the series. It's not uncommon to see people wanting him to be promoted to the main prosecutor of a future game.

** The killer of the second case, [[spoiler:Cammy Meele]], is a prime example of a reserved {{Cloudcuckoolander}}, making a lot of NonSequitur comments while still being calm and collected, and it's all topped off with extreme bouncing, having one of the [[GagBoobs largest chests]] in the franchise and having [[VaporWear no visible bra to speak of]]. It also helps that she's [[spoiler:an {{Expy}} of [[Franchise/StreetFighter Cammy]] [[MsFanservice White]]]].

** Edgeworth's knowledgeable defense of ''The Steel Samurai'' sounds a lot like the way adult fans of a [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic certain other kids' show]] (which debuted in 2010, a year after this game) justify their love. There's something priceless about the realization that, in his world, Miles Edgeworth is essentially a brony.

With that knowledge, play these games, where she appears as the same highly ambitious GenkiGirl she was in the first game. Lessened by ''[[VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorneySpiritOfJustice Spirit Of Justice]]'' showing she eventually got the job, but you know she's still setting up for temporary disappointment here.

* EscapistCharacter: Kay Faraday is what many Edgeworth {{fan girl}}s dream of being. She's a cute 'modern-day Robin Hood' and gets to play assistant to Edgey, who feels a deep connection to her because of [[spoiler:the parallels between her father's death and his]]. She's also Gumshoe's very best friend.

** [[CowboyCop Agent]] [[AFatherToHisMen Lang]] is one of the most popular rivals in the series. He's remembered for being a pretty solid and street-wise [[TheRival rival]] to the more academic and proper Edgeworth with a cool backstory, being a very fiercely devoted and [[AFatherToHisMen good boss to his men]], having a pretty damn [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic good]] [[{{Leitmotif}} theme]], his numerous feats of badassery, especially in the last case, and finally just having an overall [[MrFanservice attractive]] and [[HellBentForLeather appealing]] [[PrettyInMink design]].
** Also worth noting here is the immensely popular [[HardboiledDetective Tyrell Badd]], widely considered to be one of the best characters from the game due to his gruff, no-nonsense demanor, fleshed out relations and backstory, attractively gritty design, absolutely amazing {{leitmotif}}, and enough badass moments to rival even Lang. There was a lot of joy in the fanbase when he played a major role in the sequel's third case, and his popularity got even higher when it's revealed [[spoiler: he had a part in helping Gregory hand Manfred his penalty]].

* FunnyAneurysmMoment:

** [[spoiler:Calisto Yew/Shin-na is the only boss who isn't seen as being mixed to negative in quality. She's a cunning and shrewd liar who is good at keeping in character and her testimonies are challenging without relying on unnecessary length to be climatic. While it's not originally clear they're the same person, Shin-na retroactively becomes even more interesting when compared to Calisto as it shows just how much more dangerous she has become now that she can manage her outbursts. Ironically despite being TheDragon, her fight is far more well recieved than Quercus Alba's, who is a mix of TheScappy and ThatOneBoss.]]

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Zinc LaBlanc can fall into two categories. The more positive view of him is that he's a challenging and amusing WarmUpBoss who is a surprisingly astute opponent despite being an unsympathetic HateSink. The less forgiving interpretation of him is that he's an overly unlikable and obnoxious character who is too obstructive for someone who has little importance to the case as a whole.

* MostAnnoyingSound: No matter how patient you think you are, Sebastian's objection and especially Justine's "Overruled!" ''will'' begin to piss you off by halfway through the second case.
