Moved entries to recap and character pages. And I Must Scream applies when the victim is conscious enough to suffer; Quirin doesn't appear to be conscious. The Easily Forgiven entry was all about how Cassandra doesn't forgive Eugene.

* AdaptationalBadass: Rapunzel is inexplicably portrayed as a fearless and capable fighter against even the toughest opponent, unlike her movie self who barely escaped danger most of the time.

* AlmostKiss: Rapunzel and Eugene are interrupted quite a few times before getting a moment all to themselves in the pilot movie.
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: It's revealed that when Frederic used the Sundrop to save a pregnant Arianna that [[spoiler:he was warned it would have devastating consequences for the kingdom. Frederic ordered his men to uproot the Sundrop anyway.]]
* AndIMustScream: Quirin, Varian's father, becomes imprisoned alive in amber from halfway in Season 1 [[spoiler:on through to the first episode of Season 3. That's at least a whole year in-universe, possibly two.]]

** No, Lady Caine didn't want to target Rapunzel; her target was the King, who locked away her father.
** The "Unicorn-y" short is [[NoirEpisode a pastiche of noir crime stories]]. At one point, Rapunzel has to interrogate Big Nose and Cass hands her a knife, implying ColdBloodedTorture will ensue... only for Raps to use it to cut a slice of cake and hand it to him, which does the job just as well.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: [[spoiler:The reason behind Stalyan's HeelFaceTurn is that Rapunzel treats her with kindness and is willing to see the good in her despite all she'd done, and this feels good enough for her to want to measure up to what Rapunzel believes she can be.]]

* CycleOfRevenge: The King demanding for a tighter leash on crime in Corona after Rapunzel's abduction leads to the imprisonment (where we assumed he died in captivity) of a petty thief, whose daughter -- Lady Caine -- grows up to be a powerful criminal that holds a grudge against the kingdom and [[UsefulNotes/VictimBlaming blames Rapunzel]] for starting the mess in the first place.
* DarkReprise: "Queen for a Day" seems to end with one for [[spoiler:Varian, who after losing his father in crystal, vows not to let anyone stand in his way, and to get revenge on those who have.]]

* DemotedToExtra: Maximus has a much less prominent role in the series than in either the movie or ''Ever After'', especially in the first season. He's still considered part of the main cast and gets ADayInTheLimelight every so often, but he's not the major scene-stealer that he was in the movie.

* DisproportionateRetribution: Ever since Rapunzel disappeared, the King cracked down on all vice and crime in the kingdom, even ''petty crooks''. This was a tad overkill, and became Lady Caine's motivation for revenge when her father was arrested.

* ADogNamedDog: To Rapunzel's surprise, Cassandra's owl is named "Owl". It could be because he is more of a tool for scouting than a pet.
* TheDoorSlamsYou: Lady Caine decides to make her exit once Rapunzel, Eugene, and Cassandra take out her thugs, and chooses to exit through the door the soldiers are currently trying to bash open. Cue said door being knocked down right on top of her.

While he's respected in the castle as Rapunzel's trusted companion, Cassandra doesn't let him live down the fact that he was a criminal, and calls him out on how he's looking at his relationship with Rapunzel from a more selfish perspective than he realizes.

Varian is not "the many" to break an aesop about The Needs Of The Many, and neither is Lady Caine; saying she's not the only one is a speculation. While Rapunzel doesn't want to believe Cassandra's Beyond Redemption, she agrees with Eugene and Varian making a defense weapon in case of her attack, thus putting her own feelings aside for The Needs Of The Many.

* BrokenAesop:
** One of the major lessons in the show is TheNeedsOfTheMany. However, there are more than a few instances on the show where this fails to apply.
*** King Frederic making crackdown on crime [[DisproportionateRetribution overly harsh]] [[KnightTemplarParent following Rapunzel's kidnapping]], leading to Lady Caine (who was a minor then) to become fatherless, and she's likely not the only one.
*** Rapunzel not checking on [[spoiler:Varian following the events of Zhan Tiri's snowstorm]], instead wallowing in her own feelings.

Frederic's decidion is presented as not right but understandable; Varian's grief over his father is presented as sympathetic as well. Frederic eventually goes Its All My Fault about the black rocks; Rapunzel forgives him. Later, she forgives Varian, too, after he owns up to his mistakes and redeems himself. This, and Frederic is no protagonist. While they do make a lot of fuss about Cassandra’s possible redemption and forgive a lot of her transgressions, the second bullet overlooks the fact that she is forgiven after she pulls a Heel Face Turn, while Varian is imprisoned after he is defeated but still determined to cause trouble, and he takes over the kingdom later on. When he pulls a Heel Face Turn, he, too, is instantly forgiven by Rapunzel, and she doesn't punish him for siding with the separatists and taking over Corona.

** The series features two characters that [[FaceHeelTurn undergo a path of darkness]] and [[EtTuBrute betray Rapunzel's trust]]: [[spoiler:Varian, a teenage alchemist whose father she was unable to help save, and Cassandra, a BrokenAce warrior that finds out she was the daughter of Mother Gothel, who abandoned her in favor of Rapunzel's magic hair. However, Cassandra had been one of the major protagonists in the previous two seasons by the time she made her turn, while ''Varian'' had merely been in a few episodes beforehand. So naturally, Varian receives far less leniency from Rapunzel than Cassandra does, with the princess being a lot more willing to give up on him, and the show puts more emphasis on Cassandra's possible redemption, too. This is in spite of Cassandra committing a ''lot'' more crimes than Varian (and for ''much'' pettier reasons, no less), doing more damage to Corona, and being significantly older than him. It gets particularly bad in the series finale, where Cassandra is [[KarmaHoudini allowed to leave Corona and pursue her destiny]], but Varian had to pay for his crimes by being locked up in the dungeon, and [[EarnYourHappyEnding suffered through much more hardship to finally be happy in the end]].]]
