** Stoick catches up to Hiccup attempting to arrange a meeting with Drago. He attempts a WhatTheHellHero, saying what Hiccup is doing is irresponsible. Hiccup counters, "I'm trying to protect our dragons and stop a war. How is that irresponsible?" Stoick then says, his expression changing, "Because war is what he wants, son!" Hiccup pauses, as Stoick proceeds to explain. The viewer then realizes that Drago may be unreasonable.

Becomes a double example when Hiccup meets his mother for the first time; he's at first excited, but disappointed when she, like Stoick, advises Hiccup that they need to [[MeaningfulEcho "protect our own."]] [[spoiler:Hiccup finally accepting this advice gives him the confidence to embrace his role as a leader.]]

** Drago's backstory isn't fleshed out much, but in many ways he's what a meaner, more aggressive Hiccup could have been; lost family, [[spoiler:lost a limb]], and learned to master dragons by studying their animal behaviors, but focusing on the animal mechanics of dominance and submission rather than trust.

** Drago's backstory isn't fleshed out much, but in many ways he's what a meaner, more aggressive 3-in-1 example not just to Hiccup could but to both of his parents as well --
*** To Stoick -- Both are strongmen and intelligent and respected leaders, but Stoick is clearly concerned with caring for his people, while Drago is out for domination. They also
have been; similar builds, noteworthy hair, and are excellent fighters.
*** To Hiccup -- Both are powerful dragon tamers with ArtificialLimbs that
lost family, [[spoiler:lost a limb]], and learned their families to master dragons. But where Hiccup tames dragons with love and compassion, Drago controls them by studying force. You can see one of the greatest differences in how they approach dragons: Hiccup reaches out his hand for the dragon to touch, while Drago makes the dragon bow so he can grind its head under his heel.
*** To [[spoiler:Valka]] too -- [[spoiler:both wield staff weapons, seek out dragons for
their animal behaviors, but focusing on own purposes, and command the animal mechanics respect of dominance a Bewilderbeast. But while Valka's staff is more of a shepherd's crook, Drago's bullhook is used as a tool of domination; where Valka seeks out dragons to bring them into the Sanctuary, Drago hunts down dragons to grow his army; and submission rather than trust.while Valka's Alpha seems to treat her as an equal, Drago's Alpha was cowed into submission.]]

Adult Fear is now a disambig.

* AdultFear:
** Stoick on [[OhCrap hearing Drago Bludvist's name]] gets into overprotective mode for Berk, because he knows that one cannot reason with a senseless murderer. Hiccup's response? Fly to seek Drago via [[spoiler:ISurrenderSuckers with dragon trapper Eret, giving up his weapon and locking himself up in the brig, while snarking about it the whole time.]] Small wonder that Stoick went overboard with the [[spoiler:not necessary]] rescue attempt. And Hiccup ''still'' doesn't listen the second time he hears the tale.
** We then see that Stoick is ProperlyParanoid when Drago [[spoiler:brainwashes Toothless to fire on Hiccup.]] Stoick sees this from a distance, and realizes immediately what's going on. [[spoiler:He then races down to Hiccup and Toothless to take the blow, without hesitation.]]
** In Valka's flashback, Valka dropped her peaceful attitude once she saw Cloudjumper break into her and Stoick's home, ''right where their baby son was sleeping''. [[spoiler:Granted it turned out he was peaceful]] but it's very similar to what would happen if a wild animal breaks into a house with an infant child unprotected. And Cloudjumper does scratch Hiccup on the chin, leaving a small scar.
** The fact Hiccup was born premature and probably wouldn't have survived the harsh living conditions of Berk at the time. Both of these together create the ultimate Adult Fear for expectant mothers: Your baby has just beaten incredible odds surviving a premature birth... then you have to deal with trying to keep said baby alive against ''dragons''.
** At the climax, Valka [[spoiler:has to spend several agonizing seconds believing Hiccup has been trapped within a giant block of ice.]]
** In a non-progeny related example, [[spoiler:imagine meeting your estranged spouse, who has believed you were dead for two decades after you left them without warning, and they just keep staring and walking toward you, without a word. No wonder Valka freaks out a little.]]

Stoick immediately goes for the lockdown route, telling everyone on Berk to stay put and prepare for war. He knows this from experience with Drago personally, to have your weapons on hand and a will to fight back. Hiccup counters that perhaps Drago doesn't know about another way and he has to at least try and prevent a war before lives are lost.
