* BeYourself: AnAesop delivered from Crush to Sid early in the "Noosehead" arc about Sidney's metal singer persona turning him into something he doesn't want to be, which is also {{foreshadowing}} [[spoiler:to the fact that Crush is Sam and his Crush persona is turning him into something he doesn't want to be]]. While this helps Sidney develop into a better person, [[spoiler:it also gets him [[DeathFakedForYou 'killed']] by his record label]] and gives Crush a fair bit of a guilt complex.

* ElevatorSnare: While Sam rides up to top level in the elevator, the chasing Ninja takes the stairs and, being a determinator, arrives first...

* SpoofAesop: Several of TheMerch is T-shirts with slogans like "[[KlingonPromotion Murder is not an appropriate method for career advancement]]" and "[[Literature/{{twilight}} vampirism]] does not [[StalkingIsLove make stalking attractive]]".

* TakeThat: Edwin is a walking TakeThat to the ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'' franchise, and specifically its bizarre concept of romance.

* OldShame: In-universe, Rikk Estoban hired Fuzzy to reclaim a stolen painting by an obscure artist named David Williams. The painting in question is cheerful and borders on TastesLikeDiabetes, making it a mystery of why Estoban would even want it. Sure enough, Fuzzy eventually figures out that the painting is an old work back before Estoban established his grimdark persona, and David Williams is his real name. The only evidence of that period is the painting itself and a newspaper clip from an old art show where Williams work was panned by critics.

* CerebusRetcon: Fuzzy's MysteriousPast was initially PlayedForLaughs, with Fuzzy doing things like having his mother (a real brown bear, which turned out not to be his mother) visit and later claiming he sold all proof of his childhood to National Geographic for some cash and a NiceHat. Said mysterious past, and the LaserGuidedAmnesia that erased it, are currently a major part of the comic's drama.

* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: One of the worst offenders in webcomics, to the point that a guest strip by Jeph Jaques made fun of the comics trend of bringing back long-forgotten characters to serve as shocking reveals.

* VandalismBackfire: Done in an early strip where Sam is depressed over his recent breakup with his girlfriend Alexa. Cue Fuzzy trying to cheer him up in his usual sociopathic way.

* TheyWalkAmongUs: The independent story arcs set after the MythArc. Due to the events of the MythArc, the Underground is vell and truly into the open.

* BigBad: The final volume of the Classic Series had [[spoiler: Fridge]]; the next three volumes, a.k.a. the Noosehead Series, had a BigBadEnsemble of Sin, Mr. Black, and [[spoiler: Mr. Blank]]; Sin returned for the NMS Series to form a new BigBadEnsemble with [[spoiler: Hazel and Brain]], but then [[spoiler: Sin was killed by Brain, who turned out to have been corrupted/replaced by Hart, who was also Fridge]], meaning that [[spoiler: Hart]] might be the Big Bad of the whole MythArc.
* BittersweetEnding: How ''Race To the Bottom'' concludes: [[spoiler: Brain and Hart are dead, the Pit has been destroyed, but so has most of the Underground, and much of the surface cities. Hazel has her memories erased, Candace passes on for good, the Masquerade is broken once and for all, and Fuzzy accepts that he'll never get the memories of his life as Eric back.
