Corey and Trina are really the half-demon, half-human children of Satan. They live on the surface world with their human mother. Trina is having a hard time blending in because she's more like her demonic father, while Corey takes after his gentle mother. His hatred for Carrie and the other Newmans led to Trina stealing Mina's soul and making her her personal servant. Trina also wants Nick Mallory because she thinks his DNA will cure uglyness in the Underworld. As for Corey's friendship with Laney, he cares for her because she was the first human his age who was kind to him.

Which, depending on who you ask, it's either karma, or him being a bigger asshole than her.
