* Unstable sims regularly receive the "out of sorts" moodlet which threatens to [[CharacterDerailment change their traits]] if not dealt with; The moodlet can be easily resolved by having the sim in question take a few deep breaths or go to the hospital, however. The awesome part is that sims with the unstable trait regularly get easily-fulfilled wishes related to the mechanics associated with this trait.

** This applies even to adoptions. [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair Blue haired woman]] adopts a kid with ordinary black hair, who himself has children via the normal method? There's a very real chance the grandchildren will be looking like a grandmother to which they have no biological relationship at all...

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: You can create sims with odd-colored hair. It's considered genetic, as said sims' offspring can also have the same color of hair. The denizens of Dragon Valley start with odd hair colors. Also, if you turn an Imaginary Friend into a real Sim, they will often come out with odd hair or eye colour.

* ShirleyTemplate: One of the pre-made Sims in the Roaring Heights world is Shirley Templeton, a [[CompositeCharacter composite]] of both Creator/ShileyTemple and ComicStrip/LittleOrphanAnnie, perhaps playing on the popular misconception that Shirley once played the role of the comic strip icon.

* OminousPipeOrgan: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3o9xmcgriA The Grim Reaper Theme]], which sounds suspiciously like the [[StarWars Imperial March]] at some points. ShoutOut maybe?

* ArtEvolution: In contrast to the animesque ''The Sims 2'', Sims in ''The Sims 3'' has more realistically appropriate face proportions, although the shading and expressions still makes them quite cartoony.

* {{Troll}}: Of course, there's the option Inappropriate, Evil, or Grumpy sims have to troll whenever they use a computer. But ''University Life'' introduced an entirely new form of trolling, with the Relationship Transmogrifier. A master of "Social Networking" can, with their smart phone, turn lifelong friends into bitter enemies, can [[EveryoneIsGay hook up all of the men or women in the neighborhood with each other]], or more.

* UnfortunateName: A Sim in Hidden Springs has the name of Liam O'''Dourke''.

* DeathIsCheap: The Science Lab will offer opportunities to resurrect recently-deceased family members, and with ''Showtime'', a genie wish can be used to resurrect them. The only [[Permadeath permanent death]] in regards to playability is dying while ''already'' a ghost. [[note]]Okay, so the ghost doesn't die per se, but s/he does "Return to the Netherworld" (Purgatory/Heaven/whatever you want to call it).[[/note]]

* DeathIsCheap: The Science Lab will offer opportunities to resurrect recently-deceased family members, and with ''Showtime'', a genie wish can be used to resurrect them. The only FinalDeath in regards to playability is dying while ''already'' a ghost. [[note]]Okay, so the ghost doesn't die per se, but s/he does "Return to the Netherworld" (Purgatory/Heaven/whatever you want to call it).[[/note]]

* ThePrankster: Fairies gain quite a few abilities to pull pranks on other Sims, ranging from [[MyHairCameOutGreen dye in a shower's shampoo]] to [[BeeAfraid bees in the mailbox]]. And that's not even counting the various spells used ''directly'' on other sims, such as the [[TrueBeautyIsOnTheInside Inner Beauty curse]].

** Jebidiah Wilson from Riverview bears a strong physical resemblance to another Dr J. Wilson, of ''{{House}}'' fame.

* FertileFeet: The Plantsims from University Life leave a trail of flowers wherever they walk.
