Previous ''Donkey Kong Country'' composer Creator/DavidWise [[http://www.gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=204709 returns to the series]] to compose the soundtrack for the game, replacing Minako Hamano from ''Returns''. On December 2nd, 2013, the game's updated boxart revealed the long-rumored fourth playable character: Cranky Kong, PromotedToPlayable for the first time in the series. His previous ''Returns'' role as the shopkeeper is now filled by Funky Kong.

In January 2018, Nintendo announced an UpdatedRerelease of the game for the UsefulNotes/NintendoSwitch, due for release in May of that year.
