* OffModel: The glaring problem with the OVA anime. Granted, it's because there are ''so many'' moving parts, and one can suspect that the UsefulNotes/PlaystationNetwork downage in 2011 had an effect on the deal with the studio. The parts that are supposed to be awesome ''are'' awesome, though.

* AwesomeYetPractical: Tanks. Moreso then in previous entries, because now taking action with your Tank only costs ONE CP, no matter its size. As usual, the Tank wades through small arms fire and serves as a great shield. Note that the tank's AP pool depends on the chassis, with Light Tanks having the highest AP and Heavy Tanks the lowest.
** Despite being a PREQUEL, Armored Techs are even MORE useful here then they were in 2. When they end they turn, they crouch down and plant their shield on the ground in front of them, providing a handy curtain of frontal cover from incoming enemy fire. Possibly justified in that it seems the Nameless are used as Guinea Pigs for experimental military tech. It should be noted, however, that unless the player has them crouch (near the sandbags) beforehand, they will still take normal damage (headshots included) if they are attacked from the sides or behind.
** Snipers. Triple-shot snipers. You want them, you need them. It's the pinnacle of eliteness to blast the head of the Darcsen Knights from halfway across the map, and you HAVE to do this because there is effectively no other way to deal with them save for going Valkyria.

* BroadStrokes: For the most part Squad 422 (and their Empire counterpart, Calamity Raven) stays away from the spotlight of war, but the bits about Selvaria can be downright ludicrous, especially if you have played her VC1 DLC.

* LettingTheAirOutOfTheBand: The intro movie tells of the Gallian War and the military's valiant effort to repel the Imperial invasion, led by none other than the highly decorated [[TheAce Welkin Gunther]]... and then the VC1 theme music promptly stops and VC3's own theme starts playing, as the narrator begins speaking of [[AntiHero The Nameless]]'s unrecorded chronicles.

* MeaningfulName: Would you expect a high-ranking religious figure named "[[VideoGame/AssassinsCreedII Borgia]]" to be a wholesome person?

* ContinuityNod: At some point in the game, Welkin, Alicia, Avan, Cosette, Leon, Juliana, Brixham, and even Baldren and Audrey are required party members. On the other hand, you get to fight Jaeger (winnable) and Selvaria (unwinnable, [[ThatBattleDidntCount at least story-wise]]). (This list is not exhaustive.)

Taking place during the events of ''VideoGame/ValkyriaChronicles'', the game tells the story of Gallian Army Squad 442, otherwise known as "The Nameless". Made up of [[RagtagBunchOfMisfits criminals, deserters and military offenders]], the members of the Nameless [[UnPerson are stricken from official records]] and [[YouAreNumberSix thereon referred to by number only]]. They are then sent out on the most dangerous missions and dirty work for the Gallian Army, their existence and actions officially denied by the government.

* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: If you studied your American military history, you would know where the official name of the Nameless came from.[[note]]Specifically the '''442nd'' Regimental Combat Team, comprised of Japanese-American soldiers, which became the most-decorated unit in US Army history. And also a unit forced to be self-sufficient, like the Nameless (although they weren't as bad off).[[/note]]
