To give a quick example the first gun handed over to you is a shotgun called Flaming Compensator which has two balls dangling from it which evokes a very phallic image and, if you're stretching it, [=STDs=] as well.

** If you're in a mission that requires you to be high up and you accidentally fall, the game will teleport you to the highest point you reached, so you don't have to go through the same segment all over again. The player character is verbally thankful for this. More cruel versions of this simply kills the player, but since DeathIsASlapOnTheWrist at worst the player will be simply respawned at the closest safe spot needing minimal backtracking.

** The game features Auto Aim and there are no enemies that requires hitting a precise spot to kill, which is good considering how fast paced the fights are this is a very welcome thing.

* CombatParkour: Heavily enforced. While fighting enemies on foot and walking is possible you'll most likely get swarmed or overwhelmed very fast. Using the transversals and being constantly on the move is basically a necessity to survive the most intense combats.

* FakeLongevity: If you want a full inventory of weapons from Two-Hat Jack and the Level 2 Amps from Floyd and all of Calista's clothes be prepared for a VERY long grind of challenges since the [=OverCharge=] and money drops from killing regular enemies are so low and small no sane person would consider it.

* GlassCannon: It's the name of one of the Overdrives. It can boost up to 25% of your attack at cost of also deducting up to 25% of your max health.

* PowerAtAPrice: Plus/Minus Overdrive can give up to a hefty 50% damage boost to any weapon, however you'll steadily lose up to 1% of your health per second and the health drain ''can'' kill you (even while shopping or idling).

* ProtectionMission: The Night Defense missions require you to protect the vats as they cook Amps. You can place traps to help you with the oncoming hordes.

''Sunset Overdrive'' is an open-world ThirdPersonShooter developed by Creator/InsomniacGames. The game parodies every video game tropes and takes place in Sunset City, a locale that suffers from a mutant outbreak after the nefarious company Fizzco releases their energy drink, Overcharge. You play as a highly customizable character who eventually takes the turn of events in stride, moving around the city and destroying mutants with glee.

Gameplay is reminiscent of ''VideoGame/MotorStorm'', ''VideoGame/{{Crackdown}}'', ''VideoGame/{{Infamous}}'', ''Franchise/RatchetAndClank'', and ''VideoGame/JetSetRadio'' with ''VideoGame/SaintsRow''-equse [[VirtualPaperDoll character customization]] and LeParkour thrown in for good measure. Referred to as "traversals", you are able, and highly encouraged, to run on walls, grind on rails, and use various objects to hurtle yourself upwards in your quest to escape the city. As you might expect from an Insomniac game, the weapon selection is out there, as your arsenal can consist of a bowling ball launcher, vinyl record gun, toy helicopters with pistols attached to them, and teddy bears strapped with dynamite.
