* ReplayValue / RewatchBonus: During 2017, when it was given a "Remaster", many who played the game episode-by-episode through 2014 - 2016 were suggested to play it again. Part of the reason was for the changes and the AntiFrustrationFeatures, but also because some of the foreshadowing was written off as nothing by the player with the individual books' releases being months apart. Among the most notable, [[spoiler: the fact that Queenie is Saga from the future. By the time old Lady Alvane appears, Queenie has been long gone and most didn't notice that the voices match, or even that Saga ''also'' somehow has Zoë's bottle of Biju]].

* HeroicSacrifice: Shitbot performs this. ItMakesSenseInContext.

* ChekhovsSkill: Back in ''VideoGame/DreamfallTheLongestJourney'', it is briefly mentioned that Zoë is pursuing a bioengineering degree. In this game, bioengineering is one of the two career paths Zoë can choose before she wakes from her coma.

A UpdatedRerelease, with the subtitle ''The Final Cut'', is due for release in July 2017.

* UncannyValley: In-Universe, [[spoiler: in Book Five, Zoe notices that Wonkers is not himself, speaking much lower and more robotically than he normally does, giving an aural representation of this concept. When the scene ends, he reverts to his normal attitude and tone.]]

The game will consist of five episodes:

* MaleGaze: The camera ''really'' likes displaying on Zoë's ass prominently. Not hard to see why, considering she the fact the she wears such tight fitting lower body wear.

* NoExportForYou: The final decision to have the game cut into episodes made things very difficult for quite a few foreign publishers, who ended up not being able to release the game in a particular language. One of those was Poland's [[Creator/CDProjektRed cdp.pl]] who had already confirmed that the newest installment of the much beloved there saga would, just like the previous two, receive full Polish voice over. When Red Thread Games announced that the game would not be released as a single entity but rather split into chapters, CD Projekt had to pull the plug on the whole project. Ironically, while investigating the whole thing one of fans called the actress who had played Zoë in ''Dreamfall'' and she initially believed he was offering her to reprise her role in ''Chapters'', which she was allegedly very enthusiastic about.
** On the whole, when it comes to languages, Red Thread Games earned quite a lot of hate from its foreign or even domestic fanbase, seeing as the game, part of a franchise that's widely considered the crowning achievement of the Norwegian gaming industry, did not get any Norwegian version at all (as opposed to the previous two) and was instead available only with English and German-speaking casts as well as with French subtitles. To make things worse, the latter two were notoriously released with massive delays compared to English.

*** A few guards you hear a bit later in the game actually ''do'' question the FantasticRacism, one even saying that a Dolmari gave him some good farming advice. Additionally, some are more than willing to [[spoiler: Turn on their own commanders]] and start [[spoiler: aiding the resistance]]. After all - the events at Ge'en are too bad even for ''them''.

* RewardedAsATraitorDeserves: [[spoiler:Jakai Salmin in Book 4, after he sells out the rebels.]] He is swiftly rewarded with a knife to the back by [[spoiler:Vamon]].

Had it reached $2M, the devs would have greenlit the pre-production of ''The Longest Journey Home'' (essentially, ''The Longest Journey 2'' [[WhatCouldHaveBeen with April in the lead role, which is a conclusion of her story]]). While series creator and writer Ragnar Tørnquist has stated that he one day hopes to release ''Home'' in some form, he also said that the project isn't happening for "[[https://twitter.com/ragso/status/741008032528801794 a long, long time, if at all]]."

* HereWeGoAgain: When Queenie asks Zoë to find and save Hannah, Zoë's diary makes a dry note on how the last time she was tasked with finding and rescuing a girl she didn't even know, [[SarcasmMode it ended very well for everyone involved and their friends/relatives]].

* SequelHook: [[spoiler: Saga departing with Kian at the end, the fact that Hannah did not appear in the ending...]] Confirmed by Tørnquist that there will be a sequel done eventually.

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: [[spoiler: Hannah is never seen again after book four, although she is still mentioned. Falk's survival will only be mentioned in an offhand comment.]]

* AntiFrustrationFeatures: The beginning of Book two has a puzzle that requires you to order some drawings in chronological order. Those drawings tell events from TheLongestJourney, which might be difficult if you haven't played it or don't remember it well. However, drawings placed in the correct spot stay there and cannot be removed, so it facilitates a lot if you end up having to go by trial and error.

* CerebusRetcon: Back in TheLongestJourney Roper Klacks was pretty much a comic relief, and his demise by ending up trapped in a calculator was PlayedForLaughs. Then comes Book 5 and we learn that thanks to this imprisonment, he got the inspiration to [[spoiler:build the Azadi engine, which performed calculations and is capable of eliminating magic, as well bringing TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt]].

* DecoyProtagonist: [[spoiler:Saga]], the secret third playable character. Not only for Dreamfall Chapters, but also for the whole series. [[spoiler:Saga]] saves the other two playable characters, and is revealed to be [[spoiler:Lady Alvane, the misterious old lady who narrated the events of TheLongestJourney]]. Additionally, [[spoiler:Saga]] is hinted during Book 1 to also be [[spoiler:a reborn April Ryan]].

* WhereItAllBegan: Happens to the whole saga at the end of Dreamfall Chapters. [[spoiler:TheLongestJourney, the first game of the Saga, begins at the House of All Worlds with Lady Alvane telling April Ryan's story. Dreamfall Chapters ends at this same place with Lady Alvane, who is revealed to be old Saga, meeting April Ryan from the past. Bonus points that back in TheLongestJourney Lady Alvane did mention that the story ends where it begins.]]

* MadScientist: The Sister in charge of the Azadi concentration camp for magicals. [[spoiler:She's experimenting on them to create a disease which will kill all magicals. Mother Utana is revealed to be in charge of the whole thing in Book 5.]]

* SyntheticPlague: In Book Four, it's revealed that [[spoiler:the Azadi are working on a plague which will target any creature touched by magic. The plague that killed half the Dolmari was the prototype. The one they have running now will reliably kill children of any magical species]].

* ChekhovsGun: Remember that gun Commander Vamon was carrying throughout ''Dreamfall'' but never got to use? Well, he shoots Kian with it the second time we see him in this game.

* KarmaHoudini:
** [[spoiler: Utana. She reveals herself to be a BitchInSheepsClothing and genocidal against the magicals. Unlike Sahya and Vamon, her fate is not explicitly revealed. Although we do know that Kian becomes King in Sadir.]]
** [[spoiler: Helena Chang and possibly Westhouse. Helena's death is never confirmed, although Gabriel mentions many people want her dead. Westhouse loses the power of the Undreaming, but it's not expressly clear what becomes of him.]]
