* IKnewIt: There was a RunningGag on [[Website/FourChan /v/]] that Ellie was [[StraightGay gay]] after the opening scene of the ''Left Behind'' DLC was shown in a preview, where we see Riley biting her neck to wake her up. This ended up being completely true.
** There was speculation that a remake would appear on the [=PS5=], and there was enough evidence of such that fans felt it was only a matter of ''when'', not ''if'' it would be officially announced.

Per TRS, removing Doing It For The Art misuse and ZCEs

* DoingItForTheArt: Naughty Dog had to stand its ground to have Ellie feature on the game's cover, since the popular idea among publishers is that games with a female on the cover might alienate wider audiences. More about it can be read [[http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/121064-Naughty-Dog-Flat-Out-Refused-to-Change-Last-of-Us-Cover here]].

** Early concept art shows runner stage infected having enough intelligence to wield crude melee weapons like pitchforks and shovels.
** Concept art also reveals several Infected designs that didn't make it into the final game:
*** An amalgam of three infected bonded together by fungal growths; a design that would be revisited in ''The Last of Us Part 2'' as the Rat King boss.
*** A fully armored evolution of the clicker with a tail, elongated arms, and sharp claws.
*** A plant-like infected where most of the host has rotted away, essentially being a skeleton puppeted by vines.

** Ellie’s name was Lily in the early phase of development. The name was in the sequel as Lev’s deadname.

** "Left Behind" has its share of ideas which either didn't make it or were heavily reworked. Some of= them were revealed in [[http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/02/14/the-last-of-us-left-behind-spoilercast-podcast-beyond-episode-329 this interview with Druckmann and Straley on IGN]]:

** Originally, the game was going to be called ''Mankind'', where the infection only affected women and Ellie was TheImmune, functionally causing a {{Gendercide}} in addition to the ZombieApocalypse. The idea was deemed misogynistic and scrapped.

The idea was deemed misogynistic and scrapped.scrapped, but as explained [[https://youtu.be/vuJ5eVvBkK8 here]], remnants of this initial design decision can still be seen in the final game, particularly with how the Infected are mostly female.

* UrbanLegendOfZelda: Following the controversial story of the sequel, rumors began circulating online that the developers removed or altered an artifact that stated [[spoiler:there were other immune people like Ellie that they killed trying to find a cure]], either from the remake, the remaster, to even an unpatched version of the original game. While the remake did change a few things, no artifacts were removed or altered in any version. What they’re likely referring to is an artifact from a surgeon in the hospital, but it specifically states that they were working with infected people, not immune ones.

* AccidentallyCorrectWriting: Given the ArtisticLicenseMedicine present in terms of how Ellie's immunity would be used to engineer a vaccine when fungal vaccines might not even be possible, the nature of Ellie's immunity to the Cordyceps is actually rather accurate. In-game artifacts mention that the Cordyceps grows on the brain, and Marlene says that Ellie's has mutated. Ellie's not truly TheImmune, but instead protected from infection by her own mutated Cordyceps.[[labelnote:More details]]Imagine the mainline game's Cordyceps as Fungus A and Ellie's as Fungus B. Fungus A is a parasitoid (which is distinct from parasites) invades the body, brain, and central nervous system to turn the host into a violent raging creature with the sole purpose of spreading the Cordyceps. Fungus B is a symbiotic creature that simply houses itself in its host's body, and actively defends the host against Fungus A, rendering the person immune to the Cordyceps.[[/labelnote]] Humans already are experimenting with this kind of symbiotic relationship, but with bacteriophages, viruses that specifically prey on bacteria, as an alternative to antibiotics. It's still embryonic and experimental, [[https://health.ucsd.edu/news/topics/phage-therapy/pages/default.aspx but it's already been used to save a life before.]]

Fungal infections have extremely varied immune responses, one of them being that they don't invoke a powerful immune response. Both A and B are the kinds of fungal infections that don't really activate the immune system. However, Fungus A is a parasitoid (which is distinct category from parasites) that invades the body, brain, and central nervous system to turn the host into a violent raging creature with the sole purpose of spreading the Cordyceps.
