** The movie was originally slated for a May 2015 release date, like all of the ''Star Wars'' movies that preceded it, but it was pushed back to December 2015. Ultimately, this proved to be a wiser decision, considering that ''Film/TheAvengersAgeOfUltron'' was slated to be Disney's tentpole film for that time period, and that releasing both movies around the same time would have limited the amount of profit either would have received.

*** {{Defied|Trope}} with Creator/TomCruise. A British tabloid reported that, since Cruise was seen talking with J. J. Abrams at a private lunch, he would appear in the movie. The reality was that Abrams produced ''Film/MissionImpossible III'', and since the fifth movie in the series was filming in Britain, Cruise and Abrams took the opportunity to talk with one another. Both Disney and Cruise himself have since dismissed the possibility of a cameo as ridiculous.

*** Furthermore, [[http://makingstarwars.net/2015/01/george-lucas-initially-planned-finishing-star-wars-force-awakens-selling-lucasfilm/ Lucas's original plan]] was to get ''Episode VII'' released, and '''then''' sell the company. Thankfully, this didn't happen due to Disney coming by at the right time to make the deal, preventing any legal trouble. A downside to the deal working out is that he would have had a more active role in producing the movie if he hadn't sold the company when he did (though he most likely would not have directed it).

* ApprovalOfGod: George Lucas was opposed to anyone else making ''Star Wars'' movies after he did, out of fear of creating a FranchiseZombie, and he was personally divided on whether or not he wanted to make another trilogy. However, Disney's concept for this movie (partially based on Lucas's own notes) and future titles apparently won over his support.
* CashCowFranchise: Disney bought the film franchise for $4,000,000,000 for this reason. It's expected that the film will make $1,000,000,000 worldwide '''at the least''', with the possibility of making $2,000,000,000 being very real, and the possibility that the movie might be the first to gross $3,000,000,000 (or at least dethrone ''Film/{{Avatar}}'' from being the top grossing movie of all time) is less likely but is still on the table. ** Seemingly played straight with the cast and crew immediately after Harrison Ford broke his ankle. Nobody involved with the movie said a thing about the injury (not even posting a "get well soon" message to the actor), and rumors of infighting spread on the internet. However, the team seems to have rebounded completely since then, completing as much of the film as possible until Ford returned.
* DoingItForTheArt: The reason the movie will not be filmed digitally, as well as the reason that less CGI will be used, is to emulate the feeling of the Original Trilogy. It is expected that the movie will be converted to a digital format in post-production, however.
* DyeingForYourArt:
** Carrie Fisher lost '''35 pounds''' to get back in shape as Princess Leia, which is no small feat, especially for a woman of 57, and apparently, she's still shedding some weight while filming. As an added bonus, she apparently dyed her hair blonde for the role.
** Mark Hamill grew a beard to get into the role of a Jedi Master. Like Carrie's plan to get into shape for the role, Mark lost 20 pounds.
** Harrison Ford broke his leg in a set accident, but is doing his best to recover as quickly as possible so he can get back into the movie. It was expected for his injury to take up to eight months to heal, but he's able to stand up with assistance less than a month after the injury occurred. He also grew his hair out a little more than he usual for the role.

* NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer: Meta example - a lot of sites that had reported on the announcement of ''Episode VII'', the Sequel Trilogy, and Disney's acquisition of the franchise in general had to preface their articles with statements along the lines of "no, this isn't a joke".
* PaperThinDisguise: Meta example - the ''AVCO'' logo uses '''the exact same font''' as the ''Star Wars'' logo, making it no surprise as to what's being filmed for the press and GenreSavvy witnesses.
* ProductionPosse: Bad Robot has Abrams's back.
* PromotedFanboy[=/=]AwesomeDearBoy: Pretty much everyone involved, ''especially'' J. J. Abrams.
* SecretKeeper: Everyone involved with the film's production is staying as tight-lipped about the movie as possible. An exemplary example of this would be Domhnall Gleeson, who apparently kept his casting in the film a secret from everyone - even his own family.
* SequelGap: It's been 32 years since the SeriesFauxnale (which is the last canonical story up to that point in time), and 10 since the last ''Star Wars'' Prequel.[[note]]It's also been 7 years since the ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars'' movie, which was a CompilationMovie more than an actual installment in the saga.[[/note]]
* StarMakingRole: Will likely be this for the new cast - particularly Daisy Ridley, who has appeared only in a few short films and a handful of supporting roles on television series before this film. Indeed, she was signed onto the [[http://www.deadline.com/2014/08/uta-signs-star-wars-lead-daisy-ridley/ United Talent Agency]] partway through the filming process.
* TeasingCreator:
** After a set leak in June of 2014, showing off the Millennium Falcon along with other things, J. J. Abrams responded by tweeting that the leaks were unfounded and denied that the Millennium Falcon was present in the film... In the form of a note left on top of the ship's iconic Dejarik board.
** A short while after the Sequel Trilogy was announced, Creator/ZackSnyder stated that he had interest in developing a spin-off movie that took place in this era. He had met with Kathleen Kennedy, and the movie he proposed was rumored to have been inspired by ''Film/SevenSamurai'' and would feature all-new Jedi. While there's still no word on if that film is going to be made (though only two of the three/four spin-off movies actually have directors attached to them), Zack Snyder and J. J. Abrams have tweeted ''Star Wars''/DC Comics crossover images at each other, leaving fans curious as to whether they're just palling around or if this movie will actually be made once Snyder is finished with ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'' and ''Justice League''.
** A fairly-plausible rumor detailing the film's opening act gained popularity online... Except for one part where it was mentioned that Luke Skywalker's disembodied cybernetic hand would be a MacGuffin to kick off the plot, which was largely ridiculed and dismissed. For the update that announced the winner of the Force For Change initiative, a metallic hand was shown to be holding the note revealing the winner's name, and given the background of the location, the picture seemed to have been taken on Skellig Michael Island, where Mark Hamill had last been seen filming. Whether it's just a poke at the rumor or if it's a simple preview of what's to come is anyone's guess.
* {{Vaporware}}: In spite of Lucas's insistence that ''Revenge Of The Sith'' would be the last ''Star Wars'' movie until Disney struck a deal with him, rumors of sequels to the Original Trilogy have existed for decades. The first installment of the Sequel Trilogy will finally arrive in December of 2015.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** George Lucas was actually working on an ''Episode VII'' script, but he [[FlipFlopOfGod went back and forth on it]], not sure if he wanted to take ''Star Wars'' further like he had originally planned, or if he wanted to let the franchise rest. Disney's script is apparently based on his, though it takes a different direction with the story.
** The original script that Michael Ardnt worked on originally put the new cast up front while the old cast was DemotedToExtra. J. J. Abrams overrode that decision and decided to expand on the roles of the older cast, so that the original team could have (at least) one last adventure - all while still giving time to introduce the new cast, with the extent to expand upon their roles in ''Episode VIII'' and ''Episode IX''.
** Denis Lawson was supposed to reappear as Wedge Antilles in the film, but he turned the offer down because he didn't want to just do a cameo.
** Several well-known actors and actresses apparently were rumored to be in talks for having roles in this movie, including Creator/GaryOldman, Creator/BenedictCumberbatch, Creator/MichaelFassbender, Creator/SimonPegg, Creator/RyanGosling, Creator/SigourneyWeaver, Creator/DanielDayLewis, Creator/ZacEfron, Alex Pettyfer, Jack O'Connell, Sullivan Stapleton, Liam [=McIntyre=], Ksenia Solo, Rachel Hurd-Wood, and Jesse Plemons. On the bright side, given that the film is still in development, and that there are other ''Star Wars'' movies planned down the line, this could potentially be a case of "What Could '''Be'''" and that said actors/actresses will be involved in future productions.
* WordOfSaintPaul: At the London Film & Comic Con in 2014, Ian [=McDiarmid=] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbfYcNPS2fQ publicly denied]] that Palpatine would be in the movie (not even as a hologram or in a potential flashback), outright stating that the character was KilledOffForReal in ''Return Of The Jedi''. However, he did say that he thought a Palpatine spin-off taking place at an earlier time period would be awesome, and would willingly reprise his role if he were asked.
* WorkingTitle: A handful.
** ''Episode 7'', or more bluntly ''Star Wars 7''. It isn't written in Roman numerals for the sake of being a working title. Sometimes, this is stylized as ''S7ar Wars''.
** ''AVCO'', paying homage to one of the 32 theaters where the original ''Star Wars'' was first shown in.
** ''Foodles''. We don't get it either.
** As far as supposed insider rumors go, apparently the film may be called ''The Ancient Fear'' or ''The Shadow Heir''. However, it's been suggested that these rumors are fan-generated and not actually used in-house.
