Ultimately, this proved to be a wiser decision, considering that ''Film/TheAvengersAgeOfUltron'' was slated to be Disney's tentpole film for that time period, and that releasing both movies around the same time would have limited the amount of profit either would have received.

* IKnewIt: A lot of people guessed that [[RealLifeRelative Billie Lourd]] would be playing [[Creator/CarrieFisher her mother's character]] in a flashback. In February, this was more-or-less confirmed to be the case.

* RealLifeRelative: Billie Lourd is Carrie Fisher's daughter - and apparently, ''both'' are [[TimeShiftedActor playing Leia in different eras]].

*** {{Defied|Trope}} with Creator/TomCruise. A British tabloid reported that, since Cruise was seen talking with J. J. Abrams at a private lunch, he would appear in the movie. The reality was that Abrams produced ''Film/MissionImpossible III'', and since the fifth movie in the series was filming in Britain, Cruise and Abrams took the opportunity to talk with one another. Both Disney and Cruise himself have since dismissed the possibility of a cameo as ridiculous.

* WordOfGod: Andy Serkis confirmed that he was the voice in the trailer - not Benedict Cumberbatch's as some had speculated. He also noted that it was ''not'' distorted.

On the bright side, given that the film is still in development, and that there are other ''Star Wars'' movies planned down the line, this could potentially be a case of "What Could '''Be'''" and that said actors/actresses will be involved in future productions.

*** J.J. didn't fare too much better. He took questions and answered vaguely in response, and then took some suggestions from the audience. Cue the same Jedi cosplayer saying there should be a lightsaber battle, and that [[{{Squick}} Leia and Chewie should do it]]. The same fat man from earlier suggested there should be some starfighter battles. And that Leia and Chewie should do it because it's what the fans want to see. Creator/BillyDeeWilliams then stood up and suggested [[BoldlyComing nothing but 2 hours of Lando and beautiful ladies making love across the galaxy]]. Finally, none other than Creator/WilliamShatner stood up and suggested Kirk exploring the Star Wars universe on the road trip of a lifetime. [[RuleOfThree And that Leia and Chewie should do it]].

* ProductionPosse: Bad Robot has J. J. Abrams's back, and he's working with Harrison Ford once again. Rumors have it that Simon Pegg and Benedict Cumberbatch - both of whom appeared in the two ''Star Trek'' movies he directed - are also making cameos in the film.

** The small ball droid has been called "FIFA Droid" or some variation thereof to allude to its resemblance to a soccer ball with a droid head on top. Some have even given it actual designations, such a G7-B1 (Germany 7 - Brazil 1) after certain well-known games.
** "Kira" is rumored to be an on-set code name Daisy Ridley's character, and whether true or not its been used by fans in character discussions since we don't have an official name yet. Some fans believe it to be a reference to a character in ''VideoGame/TheOldRepublic'', while others think it's a ShoutOut to Creator/AkiraKurosawa, one the primary influences on both Creator/GeorgeLucas and the film series.

** Any of the rumored codenames for Daisy Ridley's character being used in the film proper (The most common being 'Kira') with the announcement that she is named 'Rey'. This also rules out her being named 'Jaina' after Han and Leia's daughter in the old EU[=/=]''Legends''.

This was taken out of context and news sites were saying her wig would be in Episode VII, and since she's a redhead a lot of fans thought this meant we were getting [[EnsembleDarkhorse Mara Jade]]. Karen later [[http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2014-07-26/karen-gillans-hair-is-not-going-to-be-in-star-wars clarified]] that no, her hair's not in the movie, it was just briefly in a warehouse with a bunch of monster props, and its back in her possession and she's even using it for [[Series/{{Selfie}} a new show]]. Nonetheless, people still found the fact that she was so specific about the hairpiece suspicious.

** The later announced Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, and Christina Chong are perhaps even more unknown.

* ProductionPosse: Bad Robot has Abrams's back.

** A short while after the Sequel Trilogy was announced, Creator/ZackSnyder stated that he had interest in developing a spin-off movie that took place in this era. He had met with Kathleen Kennedy, and the movie he proposed was rumored to have been inspired by ''Film/SevenSamurai'' and would feature all-new Jedi. While there's still no word on if that film is going to be made (though only two of the three/four spin-off movies actually have directors attached to them), Zack Snyder and J. J. Abrams have tweeted ''Star Wars''/DC Comics crossover images at each other, leaving fans curious as to whether they're just palling around or if this movie will actually be made once Snyder is finished with ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'' and ''Justice League''.

Interestingly, the people behind the controversial ''Legends'' decision (which George Lucas wasn't directly involved with) did say that elements from the old Expanded Universe could make their way into future films.

** As far as supposed insider rumors go, apparently the film may be called ''The Ancient Fear'' or ''The Shadow Heir''. However, it's been suggested that these rumors are fan-generated and not actually used in-house.
