** The sword that Future Trunks creates to slice Fusion Zamasu received the nickname "Spirit Sword"--not to be confused with Vegito's sword--both as a nod to Trunks [[spoiler:absorbing the Spirit Bomb and merging it with his energy sword]] and a reference to Kuwabara from ''Manga/YuYuHakusho''. It has also been called the [[Videogame/{{Xenoblade}} "Monado"]] or the [[spoiler: True Monado]] since they are both {{BFS}} made of light used to [[spoiler:slay a god]].

* TroperCriticalMass: Hoo boy. One of the largest {{Cash Cow Franchise}}s in the world and the GatewaySeries for children the world over to anime is getting a sequel with the full support and guidance of the creator? This series was destined to achieve critical mass before it even aired. After it aired, well it is noteworthy that afterword the CharacterSheet absolutely exploded with many characters getting their own pages for themselves, something that is still uncommon on this site. Goku alone has more tropes listed on his Character Sheet than entire franchises have! To the point that he has to be separated into subpages just for how big it is! As a positive example, thanks to the growing interest in ''Super'', much development went to the characters folders in the franchise, fixing many old problems the subpages may had.

** In the Latin American Spanish dub, two of José Luis Orozco's children have supporting roles in the Universe Survival Saga. Luis Fernando Orozco voices Ea, while Andrea Orozco voices Caulifla. Oddly enough, it doubles as a CastingGag for Luis Fernando, since he previously voiced Future Trunks in the first 98 episodes of ''Anime/DragonBallZKai''.

** Almost all of the Latin American Spanish voice actors from the original series reprise their roles in the dub of ''Super'', as they had done previously on ''Kai: The Final Chapters'' (after the first 98 episodes of ''Kai'' replaced them). In addition, José Luis Orozco and Arturo Castañeda reprise their respective roles as Beerus and Whis from the ''Battle of Gods'' and ''Resurrection [='F'=]'' movies in that dub.

** Some users in [[ImageBoards 4chan]] refer to Jiren as "[[CaptainSuperhero Captain Ayy Lmao]]" because of a particular [[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/ayy-lmao alien meme]] involving TheGreys and the fact that he is also a superhero. Likewise, the Spanish-speaking community has referred to him as "El Marcianito 100% real no fake", which is inspired by [[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/marcianito-100-real-no-fake a different meme involving aliens.]]

* AuthorExistenceFailure:
** Narrowly averted with Creator/HiromiTsuru, the voice actress of Bulma. Despite passing away on November 15, 2017 at the age of 57 of an aortic dissection, she still managed to complete all of her lines. She was replaced with Creator/AyaHisakawa for further appearances, starting in ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly''.
** Also averted with Creator/UnshoIshizuka who voiced Mister Satan among others passed away due to esophagus cancer; despite this, he finished all of his lines months in advance. Any further appearance of the character will require another voice actor.
** Creator/JoseLavat, the narrator for the Latin American Spanish dub, passed away on May 16, 2018. As such, he was replaced by Rubén Moya for the final part of the series.
** Master Roshi's Hungarian voice actor Ferenc Végh passed away on April 2, 2019, midway through the dubbing production of the series' second half, with his final episodes being released posthumously.
** Kid Trunks' Italian voice actress Monica Bonetto died on April 20, 2017, midway through episode 45.

* CelebrityVoiceActor: In the Polish dub, Oolong was voiced by You Tube personality Martin Stankiewicz and some additional voices were provided by rapper Michał Witak alias Numer Raz.
** Also Polish voice cast included some recognisable television and theater actors, like Sebastian Perdek (Son Goku), Jakub Wieczorek (Mr. Satan), Michał Sitarski (Pilaf), Waldemar Barwiński (Freeza, Frost), Tomasz Borkowski (Ginyu), Krzysztof Szczepaniak (Geppuman, Referee, Cae, Damon), Marcin Przybylski (Barry Khan), Paweł Ciołkosz (Basil, Catopesra), Przemysław Stippa (Quitela), Robert Jarociński (Casserale) and Sławomir Pacek (Vermoud).

** There was a long rumor that, similar to how Kale is an {{Expy}} of Broly, another of the NonSerialMovie villains would inspire another character in the Tournament of Power. People guessed it was going to be Janemba or Hirudegarn with Universe 4 [[spoiler:but that ended up being partially {{Jossed}}, because Universe 3 was the one with a character like that: Aniraza, who is primarily inspired by Hatchyjack. Several aspects of Hirudegarn and Janemba are incorporated into Aniraza, however.]]

* {{Jossed}}: In general, fans tended to come up with theories that ended up being far more convoluted than what the show actually ended up doing:
** Goku Black got this a lot, which is unsurprising given how big of a mystery his character was. Two notable ones were that it was actually Goten (which became prominent enough to become a major MemeticMutation even after it was jossed) or that it was Goku from a timeline where he didn't get a head injury. [[spoiler: He's actually a body-swapped Zamasu.]]
** Some fans theorized that Universe 6 would be the universe from ''Anime/DragonBallGT''. They were all brand new characters instead, and it became evident in the Future Trunks arc that alternate timelines and ultimate universes were seperate concepts altogether. (Of course, this theory never really made sense to begin with, given how Universe 6's earth was explicitly said to be destroyed.)
** The Future Trunks arc also jossed the theory that the [[NonSerialMovie pre-BoG movies]] and ''Dragon Ball GT'' were from different timelines - there were only five when the arc started, and all of them were created in ''Anime/DragonBallZ''.
** Many of the fan theories involving the Tournament of Power involved some sort of major reveal, plot twist or interruption, often involving the Grand Priest turning out to be evil or a major uprising occuring among the fighters and directed at the gods. Ultimately, although there is a reveal at the end (see IKnewIt above) it only really changes how the tournament is framed rather than actually affecting the tournament itself - it goes as Zen'o and the Grand Priest planned it without any real hitches along the way.
** Some fans theorized that [[spoiler: Frieza]] would win the Tournament of Power and make a big, dramatic wish that would setup a CliffHanger for the series after it. [[spoiler: Android 17 ultimately won and the ending was of the AndTheAdventureContinues sort, albeit with a SequelHook or two embedded in.]]
** A sorta-kinda example with the female Broly. While fans were right in that Universe 6 would have a female Saiyan named after cauliflower, Caulifla is a different character (the spikey haired Saiyan woman) than Kale, said aforementioned female Broly (though, since Kale is related to Broccoli, the connection to Broly is still there).

* BigNameFan: A bit downplayed, as the series do have fans who are well known in the community, but they are also quite critical about the series importunities.
** Creator/TeamFourStar, the creators of ''WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged'', are a downplayed example. They are critical of the show misportunities and problems from the first two arcs, but otherwise enjoy it, even making some short parodies of the series.
---> '''Kirran:''' ''Super'' is not a bad show… ''after the movie recaps''. It's got plenty of wonderful moments that explore the characters we grow up with and it has numerous opportunities to tell new stories with them. While we put a lot of time ragging on about it, we want to acknowledge that it only got us this fired up because there are legitimately enjoyable facets that keep us coming back. While the series can be frustrating in its grandiose moments, its down-to-Earth SliceOfLife episodes has been fantastic, and when the series does manage to nail the drama and action, it often supplies superb character moments. There is plenty to enjoy in ''Super'', you just have to be invested.
** Jake Schutz, one of the translators at ''Website/DaizenshuuEX'' who usually translates information unavailable from Japan like interviews and characters biographies. He was the first who coined the "Omni-King" term for Zen'o before the English dub adopted it. The fandom holds him in high regard.
** [=AnimeAjay=] is a complex example. He actually thinks very poorly of the series in regards of its writing decisions outside of the Future Trunks Saga (and even then he thinks poorly of the saga's ending), but is still a fan of the franchise and an enthusiast when it comes to the animation and direction. He hosted a series of animation breakdowns for the episodes of the Universal Survival Saga, and thanks to him, many animators and their opinions have been more known in the community. Thanks to him, fans are more aware of the countless artists working in the series.
** [=Geekdom101=] is a well-known member of the English-speaking community. Not only is he in touch with most of the well-known members of the community like Ajay and Creator/MasakoX, he is also known for interviewing the members of the English voice cast, being friends with Creator/ChrisAyres, and doing in-depth articles about the franchise in general beyond ''Super''. Like with everyone, he is quite critical of the series, especially the manga.

*** Shin'ichiro Ota again takes over the role of Kibito-shin from Creator/YujiMitsuya, as he also did for ''Anime/DragonBallGT''. (Mitsuya had reprised his role for both ''Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods'' and ''Anime/DragonBallKai'', which makes his absence somewhat surprising.)

*** Ken Uo takes over as Master Karin in Episode 48 from Creator/IchiroNagai, who passed away two years earlier of a heart attack and whose final appearances in ''Anime/DragonBallKai'' aired posthumously.

** Some character voices in the Latin American Spanish dub have been changed, like it happened during ''Anime/DragonBallKai: The Final Chapters''.

*** ''Super'' was the introduction to Pablo Domínguez as the new voice of Goku. He's the 5th Spaniard actor to lend his voice to the character in his adult form. This movement was on Toei's request, but it was quite controversial among Spanish fans for a number of reasons. Primarily, the fact that Goku's longest running voice actor in Spain, Jose Antonio Gavira, was still willing to take the role[[note]]He voiced the character from the second half of the Frieza saga up until right before the Cell Games, and most importantly, in all of the ''Dragon Ball Z'' movies, including ''Battle of Gods'' and ''Resurrection F''. Because of this, his voice has the biggest nostalgia value out of the 5 voices... even though most agree he was actually the weakest actor, since he's actually NOT a proffesional voice actor, but rather a radio journalist who took voice acting as a side job in the early 90s[[/note]]. And also, Dominguez's voice sounds quite younger than his predecessors. However, after voicing the character in all the 133 episodes and the ''Broly'' movie, Dominguez has cemented himself as Goku's new voice from here on out. He even managed to do something that many people thought impossible: not only he gained the respect of Spaniard fans, he also managed to get the respect of ''a significant number of Latin American fans''. The main reason for this is that Dominguez, albeit his performance is not free from criticism[[note]]Some accuse him of sounding a bit over-restrained in Goku's more down-to-earth and even purely comedic moments[[/note]], he excels at one thing that almost all of his precessors struggled with: his screams are genuinely amazing. Many think that, if he irons out his flaws in other areas, he will easily become Goku's definitive Spaniard voice.

** Future Trunks also received a new voice actor: Bernabé Rico. The reason for this being that the character's most classic voice actor, Luis Fernando Rios, is voicing Piccolo now[[note]]Or rather, again. Rios was actually Piccolo's first Spaniard voice, but he was substituted by Antonio Inchausti in the Frieza saga. Hence why he took Future Trunks instead. However, since Inchausti sadly passed away in the early 2000s, Rio reprised Piccolo from that moment on[[/note]], and he prefered to let the role to a younger actor.

In 2018, the show was given a 8PM weeknight slot, something that hadn't happen to any anime series in ''nearly a decade''.

* AdoredByTheNetwork: Despite completing its run, the series has ''three'' timeslots on Creator/AdultSwim's Saturday night lineup - a full hour kicking off the regular Adult Swim block, as well as a regular slot on Toonami.

** In Latin America, Dr. Rota is nicknamed as "Dr. [[Disney/TheLionKing Pumbaa]]", not only because he looks like that character, but also because he is voiced by Pumbaa's regular voice actor, Francisco Colmenero.

* AmateurCast: In the Polish dub, bunch of voice actors hadn't typical acting training at that time, while most of people working as voice actors in the Polish dubbing industry are somehow required to have it, excluding children. Many of them were former or still active fandubbers. The most notable examples include Karol Gajos (Son Gohan, Hermilla), Marta Czarkowska (Chiaotzu, Dende, Pan, Marcarita), Oliwia Dymowska (Puar, Fish Oracle, Maki), Agnieszka Wiśniewska (Android 18, Marron, both Zen'os, Marron, Bulla), Dariusz Kosmowski (Daishinkan, Rabanra, Borareta, younger Kuririn), Jakub Kisiel (Ea, Agu), Dagmara Niemiec (Arale Norimaki), Patryk Kasper (Pirozhki, Shisami, Auta Magetta, Giin, Hyssop, Roselle) and Paweł Wojtaszek (Monaka, Murisam, Za Pricco, Panchia).
