** Given the GrayAndGreyMorality of One Piece, this is a little shaky, but [[spoiler:after witnessing the political pettiness of their superiors, Smoker, Tashigi and Hina outright tell Cross that they want to ally with him to bring down the World Government. As of chap. 42 Captain T-Bone, Vice-Admiral Jonathan and Vice-Admiral Tsuru join them in treason]].

** During Marineford, a frustrated Sengoku wishes for Cross to end up in the deepest, darkest pit of hell. Unknown to anyone other than Cross, his animal companions and Kuma, Cross actuall is in a place that is the Seventh Hell of Darkness, the Eternal Rotting Tree, Serpent.

** With Mr. 3 attacking Cross and Tashigi, his powers could not be used to free Luffy and the others from their cage in Rain Dinners. Fortunately, thanks to Cross' inspiration, Nami was able to free them using this.

* HeelRealization: Cross' words on tolerance and "perpetuating hate for hate's sake" make Hancock, Marigold, and Sandersonia realize they've become far too similar to the World Nobles they despise.
* HehHehYouSaidX: Averted in Chapter 31 when Cross threatened to eviscirate Soundbite if he laughed after learning one of the ancient weapons was called [[UranusIsShowing Uranus]].

** Cross has a brief one in Chapter 19, when he realizes that it was his presence and intervention that resulted in Mr. 3 getting a second chance and killing countless civilians and Marines in Rainbase. It doesn't last long, however, before he refocuses his attention on the one who's ''more'' to blame.
** One PlayedForLaughs: Nami suffers a stroke, heart attack and aneurysm all at once when Zoro manages to pay off his debt.

** Robin wore cowboy hats while in Baroque Works, because they reminded her of Saul and helped her feel strong in times of stress.

** The Drake Doctrine is a Government law that cedes all law-keeping authority to a country's own government if said country is 'too remote, too inhospitable, or lacks the proper infrastructure to support a Marine presence,' or in other words, "we can't or won't help you, so handle matters as best you can." At the top of the list of countries that that applies to is the Ryugu Kingdom on Fishman Island, long abused as an excuse for the Government to not interfere in the kidnapping of merfolk and fishfolk for the slave trade. The same law is used against them to terminate the slave trade: during the Sabaody Revolution, the Marines try to arrest the pirates and "rescue" the slaves the pirates freed on Grove 77. Cue the arrival of Prince Fukaboshi, the Minister of the Left, and two battleships worth of soldiers who claim Grove 77 as an embassy for Fishman Island thanks to the newly restaffed government of the archipelago, and cite the Drake Doctrine to remove the Marines' authority to arrest the pirates on their sovereign soil unless they build and staff a permanent base on Fishman Island.

* HorrifyingTheHorror: Hogback, proponent of necromancy, is aghast at the capabilities of [[spoiler:[[EldritchAbomination Lily Carnation, bringing an entire crew back to life with hardly any problems whatsoever]]]]. Ivankov, master of the Horm-Horm Fruit and witness to all its biological changes without batting an eye, throws up [[spoiler:when he sees the BodyHorror that is Lily Carnation with its embedded prey]].

* HumanityEnsues: [[spoiler:What happens when the Going Merry consumes the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Child.]]

** Chaka and Pell trade barbs about [[FurryReminder animalistic behaviors]] in their Zoan forms (self-licking and preening) respectively, before Igaram tops them by commenting on the increase in flea and lice population.

** When Garp chastises De Lis of the Marines' Giant Squad for letting the Accino bounty hunter family into a blockaded country ''without'' checking if they had permission from the Marines first, De Lis takes offence, considering what the absent-minded vice-admiral recently revealed [[spoiler: on the SBS]].

** Kid makes some jabs about the pirate life not being a daycare for little girls, drawing ire from Apis, Ms. Goldenweek, Vivi and [[spoiler: Merry]], but he is immediately undercut by a little girl on his own crew: Adelle Bascùd, his ship's engineer.

* IgnoreTheFanService: Cross has forced himself to do this a few times, especially whenever his female crew members try to get a rise out of him by showing some skin.

*** Nami, Usopp, Vivi and Carue interject when Cross says that they have the [[LovableCoward "breaking down and panicking"]] part covered.

** Cross and Nami get this sentiment when Luffy, Masira and Shoujou start singing.

** Smoker, Hina, Tashigi and a visiting Captain T-Bone get this sentiment when Su joins Soundbite [[spoiler:on Cross' SBS]].

** The Straw Hats encounter the big drop on their way out of Skypiea. Cross, Conis and Su all see it coming.

* InJoke: [=CP9=] has one of these in the Christmas Episode, when Galley-La and Iceburg are meeting in Blueno's bar, and Blueno, as a Christmas present, gives Lucci a bag of catnip. It takes every measure of control that Kaku and Kalifa have [[{{Corpsing}} not to burst out laughing]], and Hattori doesn't even try, rolling on the floor cackling.

** Cross' attempted interventions seem to result in keeping the crew safe… only for him to take the hit instead. This happens with [[spoiler:the prehistoric bacteria on Little Garden]], [[spoiler:the initial meeting with Mr. 2]], and [[spoiler:the 1st round of the Davy Back Fight]].

Unfortunately, he didn't realize that [[MrFanservice Zoro's]] workout routines would basically be considered softcore porn to his female viewership.

* JawDrop: It's a ''One Piece'' fic, so of course this is a staple. Especially abundant in Chapter 25.

** In Chapter 22, Usopp, Sanji, and Cross get caught in hypocrisy when the damages caused by their battles with Baroque Works is exposed to one another, and as such decided to call it even and never speak of it.

** After Enies Lobby, in response to Cross' obscene bounty, Sengoku declared he wouldn't put such a price on the son of Dragon, and he meant that quite literally (Luffy only got 475 million).

* LoudOfWar: In Chapter 31, Cross discovers that his transceiver has a foghorn button built in. He very quickly comes to love it. And everyone else knows it.

* InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons:
** The Barto Club has as one of its crewmates a Millennium Dragon named Lindy, who is kept in line by his handler [[KidWithTheLeash A]][[SpeaksFluentAnimal pis]].
** Chapter 61 shows the Great Kung Fu Fleet getting an ''entire'' division of Millennium Dragons due to the Fleet ending up at Warship Island in East Blue during Strong World.

* ItMayHelpYouOnYourQuest: In preperation for their two-year seperation, Cross and his inner circle assembled special "Hammerspace" duffel bags for each of the crew, containing as much information as he knew about what they did and any items they'd need. The trope comes into play when the ''entire'' crew (except Su, who doesn't have anything she could give) contributes to Luffy's bag, each donating an item or items that might help with his mission to save Ace. By the time of "Marineford Misery, part 2", all of them have been revealed:

** Nami: [[spoiler: A set of golden armor gauntlets, to help protect his hands from Magellan's poison when fighting him.]]

** Sanji: [[spoiler: The "Death's Door Lunchbox", seven days' worth of food with enough nutrients to keep an entire army on their feet... but if Luffy eats it all in one sitting, it'll bring him back from the brink of death. (Or send him there, if he isn't already about to die when he eats it.)]]
** Cross: [[spoiler: A letter for Buggy, explaining why Buggy should help Luffy and what he'd get for it.]]

** Chopper: [[spoiler: A first-aid kit with everything he could think of, including twenty different antivenoms to help with Magellen's powers.]]

** Billy: [[spoiler: A set of five plastic explosives, each loaded with one of his feathers, charged with as much electricity as it could handle.]]

* ItMakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext: Cross warns Sanji that Luffy and Boss riding a giant bug doesn't make any more sense with context than without.
