** No in-story explanation is given for how [[spoiler: a ghostly klabautermann]] can eat a Devil Fruit.

* LastNameBasis: Partially due to having a different naming convention, all of the Straw Hats call Cross by his last name instead of Jeremiah. This is also on account of Cross much preferring to be referred to as, well, Cross instead of Jeremiah, or any variation thereof.

* KnowWhenToFoldEm: At the end of [[spoiler:Impel Downfall]], [[spoiler:Warden Magellan]] declares that while he could probably still defeat Luffy, there's a small but still significant chance he'd fail... in which case the place would be unguarded and anything inside could escape. As he cannot risk this, he stands down and allows Luffy and his allies to leave.

* JerkassHasAPoint: When Sengoku berates Spandam for screwing up and letting the Straw Hats attack Einis Lobby and doing ''nothing'' about it, Spandam protests his innocence by saying that first, under the security precautions he put in place, no information can come in or out of the tower and security matters should have been overseen by Judge Baskerville, and thus the initial invasion of the Lobby was not his fault. Secondly, that the signature of the Straw Hats, the SBS, has been absolutely silent. Sengoku realizes from this that Cross has found the jammer in the transmitter, and thus Spandam can't be blamed for that either.

* LodgedBladeRemoval: During his fight against the Amigo Pirates on Little East Blue, Cross gets a dagger thrown in his back by Largo, which he proceeds to rip out in defiance of Largo's assumption that this takes him out of commission. Chopper calls him out on this when patching him up after the fight, pointing out how lucky he was that nothing vital got in the initial attack or damaged by its rough removal.
