* ''KidIcarus: Uprising'' seems to be getting this for being a "''StarFox'' copy" rather than the 2D Platformer/Shooter that the original was. People claiming this probably only watch the on-rails sky portions and comment before even seeing the ground portions. (Which make the game more akin to ''SinandPunishment''.
** Even then, there are people who bash on the game for deviating too much from the original, calling it a generic 3rd Person Shooter. Not only does the 3DS actually have, you know, the power to make something heck of a lot better than a 2D Metroid Clone, it's brought the series up to today's standards and will probably let it live on as another one of Nintendo's flagship series.

** To accomodate gamers who typically play with the Wiimote in their right hand, the Wii version of ''{{The Legend of Zelda}}: TwilightPrincess'' not only featured a right-handed Link (who, in nearly all other games, had been obviously left-handed), but flipped the entire game horizontally, geography and dungeon puzzles included. Lefties and righties alike were up in arms over this change.
** ''WindWaker'' received many of a fanboy's outrage for Link's cel-shaded look, with rants spewing up about how "Celda" had destroyed the series forever and made it a "baby easy kiddy game" (actual quote). Of course, [[TaintedByThePreview these complaints came about a year and a half before the game was released.]] When the game came out, it got a lot of flak for changing everything, from making the game take place on an ocean, to using a boat instead of a horse, etc. Basically, it wasn't like Ocarina of Time, so now it sucks, according to the fans. Twilight Princess brought back the horse and the realistic adult-looking Link, [[BrokenBase but it was complained about some other things.]]
*** And among those complaints was the fact that the game was a clone of Ocarina of Time...
** Also in ''WindWaker'', Link almost lost the ability to swim, having an "air meter" that slowly ran down until he would drown and return to wherever he entered water. [[FanDumb People complained]]. Then, in ''WindWaker's'' sequel, ''PhantomHourglass'', Link lost his already limited ability to swim, instead gaining SuperDrowningSkills. [[UnpleasableFanbase People complained again]].

** There has been a flood of topics on {{GameFAQ}}s showing patents for a game that shows an easy mode and a normal mode for a Zelda game (though it hasn't even been confirmed if the game will be Zelda). The easy mode has in-game videos that shows the player what to do if they are stuck. [[RuinedFOREVER People are naturally complaining that this new change will destroy the Zelda franchise as they know it]].
** Now, it's the train in ''SpiritTracks'' that has ruined Zelda forever. Curiously, most of the people complaining about the changes also seem to be the ones who complained about [[ItsTheSameNowItSucks Twilight Princess being too similar to Ocarina of Time]].
** Now that ''SpiritTracks'' is out, fans found another (but at least slightly justified) reason to complain: The dungeon-length was significantly cut down in comparison to other games, even to ''PhantomHourglass''. Part of the people who complain about this, claim that ItsEasySoItSucks. Never mind that only the first dungeon is actually easy and that the rest of them in reality only differ from other game's dungeon through their shorter length. Even the bosses are surprisingly tricky for a Handheld Zelda.
** Nintendo patented a saddle controller for the Wii, and immediately people complained about having to sit on a children's toy to ride the horse in Zelda. Except that the patent never even mentioned Zelda, and the accessory only exists as a drawing. Basically, expect any news about the upcoming Wii game to make the series RuinedFOREVER.
** After a short gameplay demo was shown at E3, the series' newest installment, Skyward Sword, has somehow managed to become ''both'' this and [[ItsTheSameNowItSucks It's The Same Now It Sucks]].

** When ''{{Pokemon}} Diamond and Pearl'' were little more than a speck on the horizon, there was a rumour going around that the starter Pokémon would be a Fighting type, a Psychic type and a Dark type instead of the traditional Grass, Fire, Water triangle. Predictably, forums were full of people complaining about how this would totally ruin the games (one popular argument was that it would be unfair for people who favour Fire types, since they are traditionally unavailable until later in the games. Apparently no one stopped to think that this would be easily solved by simply making some Fire types available earlier on, which in fact they ''did''). When the games were finally released with the traditional Grass/Fire/Water trio, people then complained that the game was [[UnpleasableFanbase too similar to the previous ones.]]
** And let's not get started on those who believe that [[NostalgiaFilter the first three games, Red/Blue/Yellow, are the only ones that count]]. Especially when they go against Gold/Silver, even though they fixed issues that the original had. What's this? My Mewtwo/Butterfree can't destroy everything with one Psychic/Psybeam? What an outrage! They changed evolution lines? Pokémon like Golbat and Seadra are made useful? Scandalous! They thought that a new region should actually contain new species of Pokémon?!? HOW DARE THEY RUIN SOMETHING SO PURE! Etc, etc. Odd thing is, some go on as to attack each generation for the point that it is not their generation's Pokémon, whereas [[FanDumb the first two generations were only two years apart, technically still being in "their" generation]]...
** This also leads, in later generations, to complaints that the new ones are "too unoriginal" and/or "too different" and that the 1st gen's Pokémon were the best and most original and most different. Despite the fact that a number of the Pokémon (while memorable) were...just bigger versions of the others. Muk is just a bigger Grimer, Electrode is a bigger upside-down Voltorb, Magneton is three Magnemite, etc. Newer Pokémon also have basis in more obscure, interesting animals, plants, and legendary creatures, so the artists and developers have to be ''more'' creative than they used to be.

*** While we're at it, Generation III gets some even ''more'' unjustified hate from people claiming they stepped backwards. One of the biggest was "removing date and time". Now, while it's not as obvious as in Generation II and IV, there actually still ''is'' an internal clock feature in R/S/E, that way you actually ''can'' obtain time-of-the-day dependent {{mons}} like Espeon and Umbreon without having to hack it. Some of the other stuff introduced in Generation II like breeding is still there, as by that point it had become a staple of the series. In reality, ''FireRed and LeafGreen'' are the bigger step-backs, since they actually ''do not'' have the internal clock, so Pokérus can run unchecked ''forever''.
** Nobody also seems to remember that in Generation III, multi-typing the starters actually became ''common''. Sure, it did start in Generation I (with Bulbasaur being multityped with Poison; while Charizard gained the Flying type later on), but Generation II pretty much ignored it. Generation III however started to pair up the Pokémon with different types altogether, namely giving Torchic and Mudkip the Fighting and Ground types respectively, giving them a whole new set of strengths and weaknesses than the conventional Fire-Grass-Water triangle. Poor Treecko got the shaft; only standing out for Team Aqua-destroying sake. But Generation IV, however....
** Any time the names begin to get localized (game or anime), there's ALWAYS complaints that NoA (and presumably the other Nintendo companies) didn't just use the Japanese names for the Pokémon, characters, or locations. These complaints slowly dissipate over time, but there's always a few that hold to their guns.

We don\'t give a damn about how much you hate Other M.

*** Other M has been declared as a FranchiseKiller, due to everyone complaining about Samus' new personality, Samus taking orders from Adam and [[spoiler: how Samus freaks out and freezes when she encounters Ridley, stating that she fought him many times in the past and has no reason to freak out.]]
*** Justified in case of ''Metroid: Other M'' since the developers removed almost all game mechanics (an open world, exploration, items, secrets, hard difficulty) that made the series unique, without adding anything new and focused on something nobody actually wanted to see (Story & Character). Which aside from being badly written caused the game to shift genres from an open world action adventure and platformer to a third person shooter with lengthy and unskippable cutscenes. Also wonderfully reflected in the game's sales numbers: ''Other M'' [[http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales/35086/metroid-other-m/ bombed heavily]] compared to ''Metroid Prime'', which was incidentally [[http://www.listal.com/list/bestselling-gamecube-games the best selling Metroid Game]] precisely because it retained and improved the existing game mechanics, thus refining the series.

Almost nothing was "discarded" outside the real time controls (which DAO did have, but that were so poorly implemented they might as well not existed) being revamped, a slight increase in the combat speed, and a few abilities getting scrapped (almost all of which were either passives that existed solely so every branch could have the requisite 12 or 16 skills or redundant, like no longer having three mutually exclusive shield stances, with one of them being obviously superior to the other two (which you only learned because you are forced to do so to get the best stance).

* ''Command and Conquer'' got this when they created the Crawlers and changed Tiberium into something that makes research. Another complaint was that in Command and Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath the Epic units were added.

***** Many game mechanics that could've been reworked were simply discarded -- it's not that changed it so much as apathetically swept away anything that generated the slightest whining. Next to the hackishly linear map design, maps [[RuleOfThree triply]] recycled, with textures within those groups even more overused, the overall picture is one of design laziness in a rush to cash in on the franchise name.

** This is such a common dismissal of legitimate critique that you would need to name names before any credence could possibly be granted. Most the "The Changed It, It Sucks" complaint is due to throwing out what made franchises distinct, the very things that fans ask for by name and go back to plunk down more cash for, and replacing it with industry homogeneity, the same thing they could buy under dozens of different names. It's not unfair at all to complain about perfectly good oranges in that bag labeled apples you bought -- when the buyer is burned, that ''still sucks''.

** There is a grain of truth in this, since 3D Mario plays very different from the 2D games. Let's not forget that since Mario is not targeted less at fans, and more at the general public, the sales prove the point. As soon as Mario went to 3D the sales went down to pathetic 5 Million copies for ''Galaxy 2'' as opposed to over 20 million for ''NSMB Wii''.

** In the latest ''{{Touhou}}'' fighting game, Unthinkable Natural Law, many Scarlet Weather Rhapsody fans did not respond well to the tweaks made to the characters, naturally this trope came to mind. That's not even including the folks who hate the changes from Immaterial and Missing Power to SWR. This kinda ignores the fact that Tasafro (The developers of the actual fighting game engine) usually make about 5 or 6 patches after a fighter is released.

** ''WindWaker'' received many of a fanboy's outrage for Link's cel-shaded look, with rants spewing up about how "Celda" had destroyed the series forever and made it a "baby easy kiddy game" (actual quote). Of course, [[FanDumb these complaints came about a year and a half before the game was released.]] When the game came out, it got a lot of flak for changing everything, from making the game take place on an ocean, to using a boat instead of a horse, etc. Basically, it wasn't like Ocarina of Time, so now it sucks, according to the fans. For some, this was welcome, as it meant you got the awesome factor of these things without them eventually becoming a time-wasting annoyance when levelling or moving through dungeons.
