** In regards to human characters, from the beginning to ''X and Y'', there was only one female cast member, starting with Misty, then May, Dawn and Iris. This changed in 2013 when ''X and Y'' had both Bonnie and Serena on the team, although this is a partial example as Bonnie was too young to train Pokémon, meaning Serena was still the only girl with a Pokémon team.
