** Chancellor Samejima is this for combining AdultsAreUseless, UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom, and HorribleJudgeOfCharacter multiple times over the course of the series, to the point of being directly responsible for the villain's plot multiple times over. To whit: making the arrangements that allowed Kagemaru's plan to work, leaving the school in the hands of Chronos and Napoleon who were out of their depth and allowed the Light to get a foothold, making a plan to redeem Ryo that failed miserably, organizing a tournament that didn't accomplish any of its goals and gave Saiou access to a KillSat, giving the ObviouslyEvil Professor Cobra free reign of the school, and then ''taking a vacation'' when things started going wrong. To make matters worse, he is treated as a ReasonableAuthorityFigure and [[IdiotHoudini he never receives any comeuppance for all the trouble he caused]]. Even Napoleon, who was a HateSink for the entire second season, has more fans than he does.

** Anzu/Tea is this for DieForOurShip reasons, for disputes involving her LoveTriangle with Yugi and Atem, or because of several memorable "friendship speeches." Aki isn't a scrappy. If she was, she'd gets more hate

** Aki became this in the second half of the series, owing to her suffering a triple-threat of DemotedToExtra, {{Chickification}}, and RedemptionDemotion where once she had been one of the show's most popular characters. No longer a formidable and intriguing threat who finally broke the FauxActionGirl mold, she served as a second-rate copy of [[Anime/YuGiOhGX Asuka]] and a complete wimp with no purpose other than to be Yusei's SatelliteLoveInterest, whom even the series labelled a benchwarmer. His {{Mooks}} are generally considered more interesting than he is, and his revelation that he was responsible for the deaths of Amelda and Raphael's loved ones (just to make Raphael angry) didn't help his cause.

** This series' version of Edo, a character who'd ironically been fairly popular in ''[[Anime/YuGiOhGX GX]]'', gets a lot of heat. The main page for TheScrappy.Anime And Manga was becoming too long. Certain sections, like Yu-Gi-Oh, were originally in separate folders, but they were removed from this page and put into their respective franchise's The Scrappy subpages.

Added DiffLines:

* ''Anime/YuGiOh'':
** Anzu is this for DieForOurShip reasons, for disputes involving her LoveTriangle with Yugi and Atem, or because of several memorable "friendship speeches." Kaiba fans tend to dislike her the most, as she has some of the most hostile interactions with him, especially in the anime where he saved her life (but you really can't blame her for it in the manga, where he tried to kill her). At least [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap she's fairly useful to some extent]], unlike [[Anime/YuGiOhZEXAL Kotori]], who is even ''worse'' than her.
** Shadi tends to be despised by almost everyone in the fandom for being an aloof, amoral jerk and a KarmaHoudini who's never called out on his actions.
** Mokuba in the anime, since he keeps getting kidnapped. While he does rescue himself on occasion, it's very rare that he affects the plot at all besides giving Kaiba something to do.
** Rebecca in the first season. She acts rude when she demanded that Yugi's grandfather should give her the Blue-Eyes White Dragon card that Kaiba tore up in the first episode, [[ObfuscatingStupidity pretends to whine whenever Yugi got the upper-hand in their duel]], and accuses Grandpa of tearing up the card after Yugi chose to surrender, and in the subbed version she [[SirSwearsALot cussed like a sailor]]. [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap She becomes more likeable]], though, after having grown up in the interim between later seasons and [[TheBusCameBack returning to the show]].
** Miho Nosaka, a one-shot love interest for Honda in the manga, was made a main character in the Toei series along with a completely different personality. Toei Miho gets plenty of hate due to being annoying, a satellite character who takes away other characters' awesome moments from the manga, for stringing Honda along when she's clearly not attracted to him, and for being very shallow in her selection of guys (Kaiba for his wealth, Fuwa for his fame and possible wealth, and Ryou for his attractiveness).
** Despite some sympathy towards Noah's FreudianExcuse, it was hard for people to care about him when he was a [[{{Hypocrite}} hypocritical]] BrattyHalfPint and SmugSnake BigBad of a {{Filler}} arc that interrupted the main storyline. Not helping mattters is that he has no redeemable qualities like having EvilIsCool like [[OmnicidalManiac Dark Marik]], [[MagnificentBastard Bakura and Dartz]] or downright amusing like [[LaughablyEvil Pegasus and Zigfried]], and when he resorts to cheating, it comes off as [[EvilIsPetty cheap]].
** Dartz due to having one of, if not ''the'' most broken Deck in the entire franchise. The final Duel of the [[{{Filler}} Doma arc]] against him is only resolved with a DeusExMachina. His {{Mooks}} are generally considered more interesting than he is, and his revelation that he was responsible for the deaths of Amelda and Raphael's loved ones (just to make Raphael angry) didn't help his cause.
** Anubis, the BigBad for ''Anime/YuGiOhTheMoviePyramidOfLight'' is widely disliked and mocked as a villain due to only appearing at the end of the movie and possessing little personality whatsoever, being a GenericDoomsdayVillain more than anything due to having an incredibly vague and generic motivation.
** Johji, Honda's nephew from the Death-T arc. He was a BrattyHalfPint who repeatedly rooted for Kaiba to defeat Yugi and friends, was a perverted slime who used several chances to grope Anzu whenever he could, which only came off as creepy due to him being a toddler, and while he did provide some aid to the gang more often than not he was TheLoad and got them in more trouble. It's a telltale sign of his popularity that he was never included in any of the anime adaptations and never made another appearance after Death-T.
* ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'':
* ''Anime/YuGiOh5Ds'':
** Crow for initially being a huge [[SpotlightStealingSquad screentime-sink]] despite having been introduced much later than all of the central characters. Solidified when he became a Signer at the end of the second season, despite at the time not owning a dragon, one of the central qualifications for Signer-dom. The major {{Retcon}}s and contortions required to make him fit into the established mythos led to many accusations of him being a CreatorsPet and [[MerchandiseDriven a walking Blackwing ad]] (which turned out to be true), not helped by the fact that [[InvincibleHero it took over ninety episodes from his introduction onward for someone to finally hand him an actual defeat]].
*** The Crow hatedom is so severe that in some sections of the fandom, any character in a later series to debut late and use a popular-in-real-life deck will inevitably be treated as the SwordOfDamocles - as if at any minute, they could be randomly promoted to the main cast and [[CreatorsPet start hogging the spotlight regardless of whether anyone actually liked them]]. When Crow was announced to be returning for ''Anime/YuGiOhArcV,'' pretty much the only thing that stopped the fandom from exploding was that the much more-liked Jack Atlas was also shown returning. Unfortunately, though his own role was largely inoffensive, Crow's introduction in that series was once again associated with the beginning of its SeasonalRot.
** Aki too. Since the two characters are largely competing for the same "position", there's two major groups of opinions on the matter: group 1, consisting of people who love Aki and hate Crow and group 2, consisting people who love Crow and hate Aki. Group 1 loves the {{Backstory}} of Aki and her CharacterDevelopment. Group 1, obviously, hates Crow for the reasons listed above, but also because he pushed Aki out of [[SpotlightStealingSquad spotlight]]. Group 2 hates Aki's {{Backstory}}, her {{Wangst}}, and didn't like the direction that her CharacterDevelopment took her. Group 2 doesn't mind Crow [[SpotlightStealingSquad stealing Aki's screentime]] because they hated her in the first place, and largely agree that the story was improved by having him instead of Aki. People in group 2 generally see Crow as a lovable LargeHam. Obviously this is a case of BrokenBase, though Group 2 seems to be distantly smaller.
** The 5D's fans are pretty divided over who they hate more; Yusei comes under fire for being an InvincibleHero while almost everyone else is DemotedToExtra, Aki through {{Chickification}} and Rua's seen as an annoying kid who has no point in being around the main group. Hinted through preferences when it comes to {{s|eriousBusiness}}hipping, it looks like Mikage, Carly, [[AmericansHateTingle Divine]] and Sherry also fall into this by the first two [[ShipToShipCombat threatening who fans believe Jack should be with]], or with the latter pair, threatening the [[FanPreferredCouple sacred Yusei/Aki pairing]]. The only one fans CAN agree on hating as a whole is PluckyComicRelief OneShotCharacter, Leo (who ''did'' try to flirt with Aki).
** Note that most of these characters became {{Base Breaking Character}}s from [[SeasonalRot season 3 onwards]], depending on who you ask.
* ''Anime/YuGiOhZEXAL'':
** There's the manga-exclusive oneshot villain Captain Corn, mostly due to TheReveal of his true nature. He's an amusement park employee, so one would expect him to simply be a man in a giant ear of corn suit, right? Nope. Turns out he's ''literally a giant ear of corn'', resulting from an experiment to bring him back from the dead that got contaminated with corn a la ''Film/TheFly1986''.
** The Numbers Club in general aren't too popular among the fans, being widely regarded as useless, irritating, and bland. The only ones with any kind of fandom are Tetsuo (for having done something useful at one point in the form of defeating Black Mist), and Cathy (for being a CatGirl):
*** Kotori might well be the most loathed female character in the franchise, for being NeutralFemale, her [[MandatoryLine constant presence,]] bland personality, nonexistent development, status as {{Lolicon}} {{Fanservice}}, and [[SpotlightStealingSquad taking the role of the female lead and the main characters's (questionable) love interest]] while the much cooler, more interesting, and more likeable Anna and Rio were [[OutOfFocus seriously underused]]. She tends to receive the nickname of "Yuma.wav", after [[SayMyName the majority of her dialogue]]. It's gotten to the point that she's caused Anzu to be [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap re-evaluated in a more positive light]] in some circles, as if to say "THIS is what a useless character looks like!".
*** Tokunosuke is violently notorious for being a [[CheatersNeverProsper cheating]] DirtyCoward and a KarmaHoudini who [[EasilyForgiven gets pardoned quickly]] after [[NiceJobBreakingItHero making a big mess]] multiple times. One must wonder why they decided to make an {{Expy}} of [[HateSink Insector]] [[SmugSnake Haga]], then treat him as a hero while changing almost nothing about him.
*** Takashi to a lesser degree, mainly for being LawfulStupid and acting like a stereotypical mix between a nerd and a ClassRepresentative with a scratchy VerbalTic.
** Shingetsu was originally this for his quick introduction, his annoying antics, and his relationships with Yuma and his pals. Turns out that he was [[EnsembleDarkhorse Vector]] in disguise.
** A lot of fans are getting sick of [[BigBad Don Thousand]] for [[GenericDoomsdayVillain lacking motivation]] other than being the mastermind behind the seven Barian Emperors' StartOfDarkness to the the point where they're EasilyForgiven [[TheWoobie Woobies]] and having an overpowered broken deck that takes an AssPull + TheMagicPokerEquation combo to finally finish him off.
* ''Anime/YuGiOhArcV'':
** Futoshi receives this treatment for [[TheLoad doing nothing]] but getting [[{{Catchphrase}} "shivers"]].
** Eita Kyuando is largely disliked for being a {{smug|Snake}} {{Jerkass}} and an InsufferableGenius who claims that he's good at everything. [[HateSink He's outright designed to be this]], and even his classmates prefer the much more entertaining Yuya over him.
** Himika as well, mainly for being not as cool as her son Reiji and her [[AbusiveParents abusive treatment]] of Reira, especially in Episode 67.
** Takeda and Umesugi also counts, since they're [[{{Jerkass}} unsympathetic assholes]] who even attempted to throw [[TheWoobie Yuya]] into a pool of lava (which could potentially kill him) while taunting him into surrendering to his SuperpoweredEvilSide.
** Teppei Tairyobata would have been this if it weren't for his [[AlasPoorScrappy final]] [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap moments]] in Episode 48 due to his DirtyCoward personality.
** Shinji comes under fire for being a [[TheRevolutionWillNotBeCivilized revolutionary]] {{Hypocrite}}, a SoreLoser, and a rage-driven [[WrongGenreSavvy dumbass]] who falsely accuses Yuya as one of the Top's lap dogs [[InsaneTrollLogic despite Yuya having no involvement with the City's society while winning the duel fairly]] and Roget being the responsible for the latter's bad reputation.
** Downplayed with Sayaka. While she got some flak for being viewed as an {{Expy}} of [[Anime/YuGiOhZEXAL Kotori]] and getting Kurosaki injured in the middle of his and Yuya's Duel against the Obelisk Force, others were quite [[AlasPoorScrappy saddened]] at her [[LovableCoward cowardice]] and [[MyGreatestFailure friendship with Ruri]].
** This series' version of Edo, a character who'd ironically been fairly popular in ''[[Anime/YuGiOhGX GX]]'', gets a lot of heat. The main thing that rubbed fans the wrong way is that [[InNameOnly he has almost no resemblance to the original Edo]], going from a fairly grey, frightfully competent, and serious-minded AntiHero to an evil stooge with a rather {{Narm}}-y motivation, who goes through an incredibly easy HeelFaceTurn [[DefeatMeansFriendship after losing without much ceremony]] and never wins onscreen. Plenty of fans claimed that Edo's existence suggested the writers outright hated ''GX,'' and even his cards are seen as pathetic compared to the original Destiny [=HERO=]es.
** Many fans agreed that Captain Solo is definitely the worst character in ''ARC-V'', from [[{{Gonk}} his unappealing design]] to his involvement in Yuzu's kidnapping, to his unremarkable pirate-themed deck.
** Leo's anime incarnation was initially criticized for being a bland villain who [[OrcusOnHisThrone did nothing but sit on his throne]], but when he got off it, he revealed that his big plan, the one meant to drive the entire series and the reason he raised massive armies, conquered worlds, tortured and mindslaved innocents, and stole the souls of millions, was essentially an act of mass dimension-scale genocide with a vague ''possibility'' of restoring his daughter after her HeroicSacrifice - a plan that not only didn't work in the end, but ''resurrected the being she was trying to stop in the first place.'' The attempt at giving him a sympathetic motive failed to come even close to justifying the horrid acts committed by himself or his supporters, and he ends up receiving [[KarmaHoudini basically no repercussions besides saying he felt bad about it]]. However, his manga incarnation is [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap spared from the heap]], mainly for his AdaptationalHeroism, being [[GoodParents less neglectful]] towards Reiji, and lacking any ParentalFavoritism involving his daughter.
** The Doktor. Aside from shoving Parasite Fusioners on Yuzu and her counterparts (resulting in them being DemotedToExtra despite their popularity and heavy buildup), his design is ''hideous'' and [[TheUnfought he didn't even get a chance to Duel Yuya, Yusho, or the Lancers]] due to being unceremoniously sealed off in a card by Leo.
** Yuzu is generally a BaseBreakingCharacter and even more so in the anime but her manga incarnation gets a lot of flak for being a [[AdaptationalWimp Non-]]ActionGirl and [[AdaptationPersonalityChange her unhealthy obsession with pretty boys and money]] aren't even amusing at all. To be fair, many fans are quick to blame Shin Yoshida for the ''very same reason'' he treated Kotori in ''[[Anime/YuGiOhZEXAL ZEXAL]]'' and they're relieved that he'll be less involved with Aoi in the ''[[Anime/YuGiOhVRAINS VRAINS]]'' anime[[note]]Mainly because he's not the head writer of that series[[/note]].
* ''Anime/YuGiOhVRAINS'':
** Naoki, prior to [[ADayInTheLimelight his spotlight]] [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap episode]], can be seen as "Teppei 2.0" by many fans for three reasons: 1) His annoying ego, 2) he's a {{Gonk}}, and 3) he's an overly petty {{Jerkass}} to the point of mocking Yusaku's Duel Disk and fake deck. It doesn't help that he doesn't fit with the CyberPunk themes of the series.
