Those are shoutouts.

* In ''TheJourneymanProject'', if you walk into the pitch black maintenance transport tunnel, the tram runs you over. [[{{Zork}} "Well, at least you weren't eaten by a grue!"]]
* In TheMaze area of ''SensoryOverload'', it says "You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike", an ode to both ''ColossalCave'' and ''{{Zork}}''.

* The protagonist's codename in SNK's ''Iron Tank'' is Iron Snake, and he uses a radio transceiver similar to Solid Snake's from the original ''MetalGear''. "SNAKE! Watch out, use radar, gigantic enemy objects up ahead!" The game's title itself may be a Take That.
* At one point in ''ResidentEvil: Code Veronica'', when Wesker is beating up Claire, he receives a call on a Codec straight out of ''MetalGearSolid''.

The Burrobot doesn't look that much like Mario, and the DKC 2 example is listed just a few examples lower than that one.

* In the first SonicTheHedgehog game for Genesis, there's a robot enemy that looks a lot like Mario. And he only appears in a partially flooded level, possibly indicating that they messed up their plumbing jobs.
* DonkeyKongCountry2 on the award screen, had a trash can that had a sign that said "No Hopers", and it contained Sonic's shoes and Earthworm Jim's blaster

* Maybe accidental, maybe on purpose, but there's definetly something fishy about the beginning of ''MegaManStarForce'' ''3''. The game starts with a meteor on its way to crash into Earth, scientists who want to stop it and Geo being invited to a tournament. This sounds dangerously like ''MegaManBattleNetwork 4'', the most hated game of the franchise, which built its plot almost entirely around tournaments. But then a twist - Geo arrives ''late'' at the tournament, ''doesn't participate'' and ''no more tournaments are mentioned again''. Just a plot element or an apology for an old mistake? You be the judge.

** More deliberately, this game also contains a spectacular take that against chicken hawks if Kaidan is in the party for the "Our Own Worst Enemy" assignment, and a rather ironic take that against the video game industry itself if Ashley is in the party on Noveria.
*** Please, don't elaborate, under no circumstances...

Noveria. In the former case, [[FantasticRacism Terra Firma]] representative Charles Saracino asks for Shepard's endorsement, as the opinion of the first human Spectre ''and'' a decorated marine carries a lot of weight. Eventually, Kaidan's patience wears thin:
-->'''Kaidan:''' So you can say "I support our troops," and get into office because of our sacrifices, huh?

Champions and City of Heroes are made by the same developer, Cryptic. They aren't rivals, so it's hard to say this is even a reference to that particular game.

* ChampionsOnline throws a none-to-sublte attack at its rival, CityOfHeroes with a line from Abomination-expy, where he declares "You boring, like rival MMO". Given how poorly CO has fared and its net effect on CoH's playerbase (little to none), It would seem that this one was a little premature.

More of a Continuity Nod.

** In the same game, in the 4th case, in the [[spoiler: courtroom's walkway going to the defendant's lobby]], if you check the fire extinguisher, Miles points out the fact that being hit with it will make you lose "a memory or two", and will also say, "But it's not as though ''I'd'' ever be so foolish as to be stuck by one of these". A clear Take that to Phoenix Wright itself in Justice for All where in the first case [[spoiler: Phoenix himself loses part of his memory due to being hit in the head with a fire extinguisher]].
