* While it's ''officially'' inspired by leeches and lampreys, the white skin, weird cry, red-lips-with-fanged-mouth that sort of seems in a perpetual grin, and weird extendable anatomy of the Khezu call to mind a certain line of robots from ''[[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion]]'' who had many of these same features (and were just as creepy).

* Little Miss Forge looks a lot like [[FinalFantasyX2 Rikku]]. She even refers to her adoptive father as "Pops".

* Some of the hairstyles in the more recent games look fairly familiar. One being a [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII long-haired with bangs over one eye]], another being [[Manga/{{Naruto}} long bangs with lots of spikes in the back]] and two that are just plain [[Anime/SpaceDandy dandy]].

* The Rajang is a giant golden ape, similar to the Golden Oozaru from [[Manga/{{Dragonball}} Dragon Ball GT]], and Lao Shan Lung looks suspiciously like Franchise/{{Godzilla}} when he stands up.
