** The ParentService gets really blatant at the end of "New Employee" - [[UpToEleven just check out Theresa's dance routine]], and her 'Flashdance'-inspired last line: "And pull the cord!"

* YouMustBeCold: In TheMovie, Justin offers his jacket to Alex in the infamous campfire scene. Given that they're ''brother and sister'', this only adds the UnresolvedSexualTension / WillTheyOrWontThey / RelationshipWritingFumble / BrotherSisterIncest they're writing on. [[DefiedTrope She refuses the coat.]]

* TheBusCameBack: The Wizards of Apartment 13B story arc ''loves'' this trope. Mason, [[spoiler:Gorog]] and other Wizards who've played large parts in certain episodes come back, and in the final episode, [[TrailersAlwaysSpoil reaveled thanks to a commercial on Disney Channel]], [[spoiler:Juilet comes back, although it may or may not be her, since it is Gorog they're dealing with here]].

** Jerry and Theresa, although frustrated with Alex's trouble-making, were loving parents none the less. Now, Justin seems to be their only child they actually ''like''.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: The family mentions that Alex seems to have a LackOfEmpathy regarding others' pain, including her own, and that tends to fuel a lot of her thoughtless actions. Therefore, if there is an episode where she performs a selfless act, worries about others, or starts ''crying'', her parents and brothers know something is up and go to ask her about what is wrong. Case in point, she did all she could to warn Alex that Evilini wanted to drain his magic, though it would make her the family wizard and eliminate the competition, because while she will tease Justin and prank him, she doesn't want him badly hurt. In fact, she goes through a lot of effort before Justin believes her since he understandably thinks it's another prank, and he is shocked when she risks Evilini's wrath to expose the woman. In another case, when learning that her werewolf boyfriend once dated Justin's vampire girlfriend and Mason blurts out he still loves Juliet, Alex is shocked. She spends a few days in her room crying, and actually deigns to accept a comforting hug from her mother. When talking with Mason about, Alex points out that she ''knows'' that she screws up a lot of things, but she wouldn't mess with the heart of someone she loves. 

* SpiritualSuccessor: To ''Series/PhilOfTheFuture'', in the sense that it's Disney's current show with supernatural/magical elements. It's been said that the money Disney gained from the success of ''Phil'' was used to create ''Wizards''.

* AbsenteeActor: Alex and Justin were the only main characters to appear in every episode.
** Max was absent for one episode in Seasons 1 and 2, four episodes in Season 3 and six episodes in Season 4.
** Harper was absent for nine episodes in Season 1, three episodes in Season 2 and three episodes in Season 3.

** In the first seasons, Harper's parents are implied to be pretty abusive and the reason why she ends up becoming a member of the Russo family.

* TheCheerleader: Subverted with Harper who is nice, smart and not at all slutty. Played somewhat straighter with Alex who can be a bitch and is BookDumb but also subverted in that she doesn't want to be one but was tricked into it by Justin.

** In RealLife, Creator/DavidHenrie, Music/SelenaGomez and Jake T. Austin are almost the opposite of their characters, Justin, Alex and Max Russo. In the show, Justin is actually a [[TheKlutz klutzy]], uptight [[HollywoodNerd nerd]], while David is laid-back, boisterous and supportive, inclined towards the cool guy type, Alex is a {{manipulative| bastard}}, apathetic AntiVillain, whereas Selena is really nice, vibrant and open, and Max is a [[TooDumbToFool big idiot, dumb enough to misspell his own name]], while Jake is smart and studious, much more serious than his cast mates, as seen in most interviews. Selena and David even impersonate each other in a live talk show, and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20Gs93HoPw8 the difference between the representations of their real personalities and their characters' personalities is quite striking]].

* JerkassHasAPoint: In "Wizard of the Year", Alex is granted the titular Wizard of the Year award for saving the world in "Wizards vs Angels" and puts her ahead of Justin in the wizard competition. This naturally pisses off Justin and while making what is supposed to be a tribute video to her, he ends up giving a very angry and vicious [[ReasonYouSuckSpeech speech]] about how she doesn't the award. While Justin does come across as rather petty, jealous and entitled during the speech, his points are not inaccurate. Alex has frequently been shown to be irresponsible and careless with her use of magic, often to disastrous results. Justin, meanwhile, is the most consistently responsible and hardworking of the Russo siblings, has invented his own spell, taught a class of delinquent wizard youths as part of his wizard community service and frequently helps Alex out of problems ''she'' creates. Worse, it was actually Justin who saved the world from the Angels of Darkness in "Wizards vs Angels" meaning that Alex was getting credit for something Justin did.
