* ImAHumanitarian: In one of the promos, Gallant makes mention of when they'll resort to cannibalism. [[spoiler:In the pilot, Venable and Miriam feed the survivors the remains of Stu [[JustForPun in a stew]], much to their disgust and horror.]]

* ButNotTooBlack: Averted for Dinah Stevens, Queenie, and [[spoiler:Marie Leveau]]; played straight with Emily.

* TrailersAlwaysLie: The trailer scenes are almost completely exclusive to the first three episodes. They suggest a DeathWorld with a lot of radiation-suit themed chaos. This season is really a sequel to Coven, and a wrap-up / 2nd visit to locations covered in other seasons.

* DeathBySex: Heavily implied when Venable tells Timothy and Emily that "unauthorized copulation" is not permitted, no exceptions. [[spoiler:Expect that rule is only enforced by her and her alone. The Cooperative doesn't care if people copulate.]]

* CriticalResearchFailure: Cordelia and Myrtle command Mallory to test her ability to back in time by saving Anastasia Romanov, whose magical protection spell failed to save her family from death. Myrtle handwaves Mallory's concern that she will upend world history by saying Anastasia's survival won't alter any significant historical outcomes. However, given that the Bolsheviks killed the entire family to prevent anyone from claiming the Russian throne and of course the infamous mania surrounding Anastasia's potential survival, this is a pretty questionable claim.

Outpost 3, led by Wilhelmina Venable (Creator/SarahPaulson), is one such bunker -- and it's running out of resources fast. When Cooperative representative Michael Langdon (Cody Fern) arrives to cull a select few for the so-called Sanctuary, things get even weirder from there...

* AbsenteeActor:
** Despite being listed in the opening credits, neither Emma Roberts nor Cheyenne Jackson were in the first episode. [[spoiler:They show up in the third and fourth episodes, respectively.]]
** While Evan Peters is on the show, his ''Coven'' character (Kyle Spencer) never appears, nor is he mentioned.

* BackFromTheDead: Several character deaths from past
seasons are undone throughout:

* BittersweetEnding: Without the epilogue, it would work almost entirely as a case of EarnYourHappyEnding with a few bittersweet notes. [[spoiler: The apocalypse is averted after Mallory kills Michael in the past, and thanks to this, Constance never commits suicide, Cordelia presumably gets to live longer since the absence of the Antichrist means that her powers won't wane as quickly, Queenie's life is saved since she never goes to the Hotel Cortez, Misty is freed from Hell and rejoins the Coven as a favor for killing the Antichrist, and Madison is set to have a similar return -- ''eventually''. At the same time, no looming threat of the Antichrist means that there is no reason to resurrect Myrtle, and Moira's soul still resides in Murder House, and while the Harmon family are still probably about as happy as they can be with their fate, Tate never gets a chance to reconcile with Violet. The bad news for everyone is that another Antichrist is still born years later (this time to Emily and Timothy) and the Devil will most likely have an [[CrazyPrepared endless supply of backup babies]] now that its canon the antichrist can be born from two regular humans, indicating that the witches will have to battle the devil for seemingly all eternity until the devil finally wins and the earth is irreversibly destroyed. This is offset by the fact that Mallory still retains her knowledge of the time travel spell and the erased timeline, which indicates they'll be prepared for next time.]]
