Specifically, the kidnapping prompts [[TheDragon Light's enforcer Mikami]] to write Takada's name in the Death Note to shut her up; this in turn clues Near's agent tailing Mikami into the fact that the latter has ''two'' Death Notes, one real and one fake, since the tail witnesses Mikami attempting to break into a locked bank on a Sunday to get at his safe deposit box, [[JustOneLittleMistake a gaffe someone as routine-obsessed as he is wouldn't make unless things were going seriously wrong with the evil plan]]. Near's team then steals the real notebook from the safe deposit box and replaces it with a second fake, and as a consequence of ''this'' Light finally makes the mistake that exposes him for good. Near had also more than once noted that as Takada is Kira's MouthOfSauron relaying his orders to the lesser minions, disrupting her would be the easiest way to make Kira panic and incriminate himself. So did Near violate his own principles just this once, or simply capitalize on a fortunate coincidence?
** What happened to Misa? Her plot relevance ends early in the final arc after her memories are erased for the second time, and she simply goes back to her normal life. A WordOfGod interview implied that she kills herself after learning of Light's death, and a scene added to the epilogue of the anime backs this up, but there is no explicit answer.
