On the alien side, the Arrow bounced off him rather than pierce him, his body breaks out in hives at the sound of a siren, he seems unable to perceive Josuke's stand, and he claims to have mind-controlled a woman into believing she is his mother.
** The identity of Josuke's mysterious savior who inspired him to take his hairstyle. Some fans speculate that he was supposed to be Josuke himself who traveled back in time for some reasons but that plot point was [[AbortedArc later scrapped]].
** Practically everything related to [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureGoldenWind Diavolo]]. His mother was in a woman's prison, with all female guards, on an isolated island, for two years before giving birth. In the anime, she also had no signs of pregnancy before suddenly waking up in labor. The infant Diavolo didn't cry or even blink upon birth, and in the anime his eyes briefly change color. He possesses [[spoiler: a split personality in the form of Doppio, and when switching between them, his body physically changes. This change in personality and appearance seem unrelated to his stand, and Chariot Requiem's ability shows that Diavolo and Doppio actually possess separate, distinct souls inhabiting one body]].
** How did DIO know the recipe for attaining "Heaven"?
* [[PlayingWithATrope Played with]] in one of the prequels of ''Anime/LegendOfGalacticHeroes'', where Yang Wen-li investigates a mysterious weekly correspondence which asserts that the Alliance war hero Bruce Ashbey was murdered and not killed in action as popularly assumed. He ends up uncovering circumstantial evidence that Ashbey was the recipient of leaked intelligence provided by a massive secret espionage network established by a disaffected Imperial noble. The actual existence of such a network is however never revealed in the story and Yang himself asserts that his hypothesis might never be proven unless both the Alliance and the Empire cease to exist.
* In ''Manga/MaisonIkkoku'', after fourteen volumes and some six years of in-universe time, neither the readers nor the other characters have any real idea of what Mr. Yotsuya does for a living... or, indeed, any knowledge of his life outside the apartment. His one and only [[ADayInTheLimelight day in the limelight]] is devoted to him [[TheUnreveal evading the other characters' attempts to figure out what he does all day]].
* ''Manga/MajinTanteiNougamiNeuro'': Everything related to Akane. Early in the series, Neuro and Yako solve a case involving some yakuza guys and the budding detective couple inherit the office that belonged to them. In one room Yako finds a braid of hair sticking from a walled up corpse. It somehow gains sentience thanks to Neuro's demonic power. Akane seems to know what happened to her but refused to say anything about it and Neuro claims he's going to solve her mystery later as he's not interested at that moment. He never did.
* The ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'' franchise:
** The original ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam'':
*** It's never made entirely clear whether or not the Zabi family really did assassinate Char's dad, Zeon Deikun. The official story is that he died of a heart attack (''The Origin'' does show him to have been ''very'' stressed and high-strung at the time) but Char himself and most other people who mention his death treat the assassination angle as an OpenSecret. ''Manga/MobileSuitGundamTheOrigin'', however, implies that the assassination theory might have been cooked up by Deikun's OldRetainer Jinba Ral both to discredit the Zabi family and to mold Char into a TykeBomb against them. In the end, it's one of those enduring mysteries that conspiracy nuts of the Universal Century will debate for centuries, until the ''Anime/TurnAGundam'' kills them all.
*** In the "Tomino Memo" (said to be Creator/YoshiyukiTomino's original 50-episode plan for ''Mobile Suit Gundam''), Dewgin Zabi meets the White Base crew and, recognizing Sayla as Deikun's daughter Artesia, begs her forgiveness for having killed her father and perverted his dream. Of course, one might not buy the whole "original plan" idea; ''Manga/GundamSousei'' puts forth the idea that it's nonsense Tomino threw together to tempt the sponsors so they would fund the compilation movie trilogy.
** In ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED'', a few episodes after their breakup, Flay wants to speak to Kira, but he says it'll have to wait, as he's heading to battle. He promises they'll talk after, but they never get a chance to meet face to face again. We never found out what Flay wanted to say as she wasn't in her usual bitch mood and sounded apologetic when she approached Kira.
* Some questions that ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' leave unanswered:
** What did Gendo say to Ritsuko before he shot her? The line itself is muted, but we hear her reply: "You liar."
** Which ending (TV or movie) actually happened? Or maybe [[TakeAThirdOption ''both?'']][[note]]There is a theory which holds that the TV ending happened within Shinji's mind in the middle of the movie.[[/note]] Is the TV ending taking place for real, or is it just what Shinji wanted out of Instrumentality? This question has been the subject of a lot of [[BrokenBase heated debate]], as the [[MindScrew extreme surrealism]] of the last episodes and movie borders on incomprehensibility even for people who fully understand what's meant to be going on (at least, so they think). ** Whose soul is in Unit-00?

* ''Anime/OnePiece'' has the mysterious entities living in the Florian Triangle. Although some of the disappearances that have happened in the Florian Triangle can be attributed to Moriah's scheme, the truth is that ships have been disappearing mysteriously in it for a long time before he came on his ship, Thriller Bark, ten years before the series. This mystery is confirmed by an unknown ominous entity larger than Thriller Bark. It was barely seen by Lola through the fog.
* ''Manga/{{Parasyte}}'': [[GreenAesop Thematic]] [[GaiasVengeance implications]] [[HumansAreTheRealMonsters aside]], there is never a ''true'' explanation as to ''what'' the parasites are exactly, where they come from, or what purpose they serve. Similarly, why certain humans like Kana and Uragami could sense the aliens is also glossed over.
* ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'':
** Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny. Maybe they ''are'' simply just the female members of extended families [[InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals who happen to look exactly alike]] and who all choose the same career and have the same name, but fans have to wonder. All we know is it's prime FanficFuel.
** What happened between Brock and Prof. Ivy, and why does Brock flatly refuse to talk about it?
** What was in the GS Ball? WordOfGod says that it was supposed to be a Celebi, but that got scrapped when they decided to use Celebi in ''Anime/Pokemon4Ever'', so the question remains unanswered.
** Who is Ash's father? WordOfGod is that he's alive and that they would bring him in if he would be important to Ash's development.
** Who are Tobias's (at least) four other Pokémon besides [[spoiler:Darkrai & Latios]]? Common joke answers within the fandom are "four Magikarp" or "four Bidoof".
*** On the subject of Tobias, [[spoiler:how did he get his hands on Legendary Pokémon]]?
** One pertaining to the ending of ''Anime/PokemonHeroes'': was it Latias that kissed Ash, or Bianca? Was he killed or did he simply disappear? Steven even asks Malva what became of Lysandre and (in the dub at least) she gives the answer "Who knows?"]]
** In the final episode of the [[VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon Sun and Moon]] saga, [[spoiler:Solgaleo appears and gives Ash and Pikachu a ride through an Ultra Wormhole]]. We never see the event, but Ash explains to everyone that they saw an Ultra Beast. The Ultra Beast in question is never actually seen, but is implied to be one that has never appeared in the games.
** Where did James get his Weepinbell from that evolved into Victreebell?
** What is Pikachu's backstory? How did it get into Professor Oak's lab in the first place? * ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'': Did [[spoiler:Sayaka kill the two men on the train for badmouthing their girlfriends]]? While other [[WordOfGod Words of God]] have given an answer, Creator/GenUrobuchi, the writer of the series, has said that it's supposed to be ambiguous.
* ''Anime/ReCreators'' never explains how exactly Altair managed to come to the real world and use her powers to bring to life other fictional characters, besides a small forgettable bit of TechnoBabble at the beginning.
* ''Manga/SailorMoon'': Where did Queen Serenity, the mother of Princess Serenity, come from? In the manga, Nehellenia claims that she and Serenity are both "immigrants" who originally wandered the galaxy, indicating that Serenity was not native to the moon like her daughter, but this is the only indication of her past.
* ''Anime/SchoolDays'': Was Sekai [[spoiler:actually pregnant with Makoto's child]]? [[spoiler:After killing her and cutting her open, Kotonoha says that Sekai was lying as there was nothing there, but it's possible that it may have just been too early in the pregnancy for Kotonoha to actually know.]]

*** Who won the Duel between Yugi and Joey at the very end of the Battle City arc? He was dueling to get his Red Eyes Black Dragon back, [[spoiler:and he's later shown with it, implying he won]], [[OffscreenMomentOfAwesome but that's another trope entirely]].
*** What is the Kaiba brothers' birth surname, and why did they keep the name of their abusive stepfather even after his death?
*** The specifics of how the characters obtained their cards usually doesn't get brought up, but in most cases that's because the answer isn't particularly relevant or interesting (with the assumption being either "[[BoringButPractical they bought them]]" or "[[AWizardDidIt magic]]"). However, one particular card falls into neither category and instead ends up an example of this trope: where exactly did Kaiba get the [[FusionDance Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon]] card? Bear in mind that, in the original anime, only four copies of Blue-Eyes White Dragon were ever printed; Blue-Eyes Ultimate's summoning condition explicitly requires possessing '''three''' copies of BEWD. The story never bothers to address why Pegasus would bother printing support for such a vanishingly rare card (let alone one whose conditions meant it would be absurdly unlikely to ever be played), nor how Kaiba managed to obtain it between his first and second duels with Yugi (especially since he was apparently in the depths of an existential crisis for most of that time).
** At the end of ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'', who won the final duel: Yugi or Jaden?
** ''Anime/Yugioh5DS'': What happened to Yusei after everyone parted ways? During his final duel with Jack we see a kind of "Years After" scene about every major character except for Yusei, and Aki implies that she never saw him anymore, so we get to assume that he didn't reunite with anyone for a very long time, if he did at all.
* ''Manga/YuYuHakusho:''
** What are the Toguro brothers' given names? They're both only ever referred to as "Toguro," distinguished only by "Elder" and "Younger" if they're together.
** What is Yusuke's father's name, why did he and Atsuko split up, and [[spoiler:which of them is the one descended from [[DemonLordsAndArchdevils Raizen]]]]?
** Was the assassin that blinded the Demon King Yomi truly hired, as he claims, by Yomi's best friend [[spoiler:and one of the series' main heroes, Kurama]]? Yomi summarily executes the assassin for even suggesting such a thing, but then immediately turns to the implicated person in question and tells him he's not even going to bother asking if it's true, because either way, the experience shocked him out of his period of stagnation and gave him the shot in the arm he needed to rise to become one of the most powerful demons in history, so it all worked out for him in the end.
* ''Anime/ZombielandSaga'' leaves several questions unanswered at the end, notably the "Legendary" Yamada Tae's past and Koutarou's exact motivations, or how the girls were brought back to life in the first place.
