* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: Lapis' side of the art gallery features a baseball bat that represents [[StevenUniverseS3E5HitTheDiamond that time she played baseball with the Crystal Gems]], and a leaf that Steven gave her, that represents [[StevenUniverseS3E3SameOldWorld that time Steven gave her a leaf]].

* CharacterDevelopement: Peridot has come a long way from “Too Far” when she’s trying to make Amethyst feel better, it backfires because Jasper was perfectly formed but it’s the thought that counts.

* BowtiesAreCool: Peridot has started wearing the bowtie that was previously on her alien doll.

* CallForward: When Amethyst states that she intends to do beat Jasper [[AndThisIsFor in the name of all the other weird, misshapen and runty Quartz Gems whose exit holes they've seen along the way]], she points out several of them, including one she refers to as Skinny, noting that she bets they were cool; Peridot also mentions a Carnelian was present.

They finally come across Jasper's hole. Peridot again steps up to say that's no big deal.

Peridot notices something different about Amethyst but asks ''[[DidYouGetANewHaircut if Amethyst has grown taller]]. Amethyst confirms she's still short, and doesn't bother correcting Peridot that the thing that's different around her is that she has poofed and re-formed in a new outfit..

** Every time a Homeworld Quartz soldier ''other'' than Jasper has appeared in flashbacks and accounts, [[ConservationofNinjutsu normally in numbers rather than one]], they've fared much worse than Jasper does. Pearl curbstomped two on her own and Garnet and Bismuth account taking on entire platoons of them, whereas Jasper alone was able to give Garnet a seriously tough fight. It turns out this is because Jasper ''isn't'' a normal Quartz; she's [[UltimateLifeform "the ultimate Quartz"]], born absolutely perfect with no flaws to be found.

But to Peridot's dismay, Jasper's hole is the only one that generated properly. Jasper is the closest thing to a perfectly grown gem even from this haphazardly created Kindergarten. She is the ultimate Quartz, stronger and better than any created on Earth thus far. Jasper tries gamely to keep Amethyt's spirits up before they run across something unusual. The holes from which soldiers emerged in the Kindergarten are now blocked with rough-hewn metal bars, making them approximate cages.

But to Peridot's dismay, Jasper's hole is the only one that generated properly. Jasper is the closest thing to a perfectly grown gem even from this haphazardly created Kindergarten. Jasper tries gamely to keep Amethyt's spirits up before they run across something unusual. The holes from which soldiers emerged in the Kindergarten are now blocked with rough-hewn metal bars, making them approximate cages.

Steven and Amethyst are on their way out to the barn to visit Lapis Lazuli and Peridot. Steven's all enthuasitic about it, but Amethyst is frustrated at being interrupted. She was working on her speed and technique which isn't consistent enough for her liking.

Amethyst is surly and disagreeable through the entire visit, despite Peridot having gone to some effort to impress their “guests”. She shows off the changes they've made to the barn, and the art projects that she and Lapis call 'meep morps'. Steven is delighted by their creations, but Amethyst continues to be ill-spirited and finally decides to do something “useful”. After she walks off, Steven clarifies to Peridot that after being beaten and poofed by Jasper, Amethyst is obsessed with beating Jasper to prove she's good enough.

Peridot is astonished, and explainst that Amethyst is the far surperior gem, given she came from the Prime Kindergarten, but Jasper came from the Beta Kindergarten. After making sure Lapis will be okay by herself, they warp over to the location described.

As they walk across the red desert sands, Peridot explains how the Diamond Authority required the second kindergarten created halfway through the war to pump out quartz warriors fast as possible to fight Rose's army. She points out that it's obviously hurried and sloppily constructed. The holes don't line up and are injected every which way.

* EpicFail: Peridot tries to play a number of instruments at one with her metal powers, which fails completely. A surprisingly tactful Lapis steps in to play with the tambourine.
* EvilCounterpart: Jasper is further established as being this to Amethyst: not only are both Quartzes, both came from Kindergartens on Earth and had something that made them unique among their specific Kindergarten's crop of Gems. However, where Amethyst came out of a perfectly managed 'good' Kindergarten with a defect making her much smaller than an average Quartz, Jasper emerged from a severely mismanaged bad Kindergarten ''[[UltimateLifeform completely perfect]]''.

* PowerIncontinence: Peridot can't get her metal powers to work consistently, especially when it comes to [[FullContactMagic the relevant bodily gestures]]. She tries to knock over a can several times by waving her arm, but ultimately has to wildly swing her leg, as if she was kicking it.

* CallARabbitASmeerp: Peridot and Lapis have turned the barn into an art gallery, [[LanguageEqualsThought but they didn't know the word "art"]] so they describe their creations as "Meepmorps", with individual pieces called "Morps".

* HighschoolAU: The title card has Steven coming across Amethyst helping Peridot in the school garden.

** Jasper was made on Earth in the Beta Kindergarten, and she is "The Ultimate Quartz", with no flaws to be found in her hole.
** Jasper has been using her birthplace to imprison her Gem Monsters.
