* JockDadNerdSon: Inverted. Bow hides the fact that he is a soldier from his historian dads due to George's bad experiences in the first Princess Rebellions leaving him embittered towards the Princssses and fighting.

After receiving a note from Bow saying he's fine and not to follow him, Glimmer and Adora decide he's in danger and follow him into the woods, where he turns out to be visiting with his [[HasTwoDaddies fathers]]-- who don't know he's a Rebellion fighter and think he's away at boarding school. Glimmer and Adora try to play along while also looking for information on the mysterious Serenia. Meanwhile, Catra panics over her loss of Shadow Weaver and tries to find her.

* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Bow admitting to his family that he's actually a fighter after hiding it from them for years due to fear of rejection hits all the beats of a ComingOutStory. Ironically, he's admitting the truth to his ''gay'' [[HasTwoDaddies dads]].

* BareYourMidriff: Bow's tendency to do this is parodied. Glimmer is horrified to see that his "captors" are apparently [[FelonyMisdemeanor forcing him to wear a full shirt,]] and later he can't fight before he rips the bottom of it off. The implication seems to be that he's just not himself if his stomach isn't showing.

* ItIsPronouncedTroPAY: Adora puts weird emphasis on certain words while pretending to be a university student. Apparently, she thinks that's how posh ''scholárs'' sound. She even uses it with her [[ByThePowerOfGrayskull transformation invocation]], complete with her affected pronunciation of Grayskull getting dramatic echoes.

* NeverMyFault: Hordak [[VillainHasAPoint is right to call Catra out]] for lying to him and trying to cover up her mistakes. At the same time his [[BadBoss past treatment of Catra]], which included [[DisproportionateRetribution nearly suffocating her intruding on him]], means he's ensured she would '''never''' want to approach him with news of her failings out of fear of punishment, something that is completely lost on him.

* MundaneUtility: Hordak uses his life-support system to torture Catra.

* InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons: According to one of the First Ones artifacts that George and Lance are studying, one of the past She-Ra's noble steeds was a dragon. Adora is pretty envious when she finds out.

* NeverMyFault: Hordak [[VillainHasAPoint is right to call Adora out]] for lying to him and trying to cover up her mistakes. As a result, they think she fought "for the ''power'' of Greyskull", and that her name might be better translated as Her-Ra. She really did used to ride a dragon, though, much to Adora's envy.
* HostileTerraforming: Apparently Hordak's biology requires an atmosphere not compatible with Etherian life. He uses the machine that modifies it for him as a torture device for Catra when she doesn't admit the truth about Shadow Weaver's escape.

** George's sweater and moustache are very reminiscent of Bow from the original series.

** An older She-Ra riding a dragon, which makes Adora jealous. When Filmation made He-Man and She-Ra they were using the same playbook as their earlier ''WesternAnimation/{{Blackstar}}'', about a barbarian hero who flew around an alien planet on a dragon.
* OhCrap: After Catra lies about Shadow Weaver's status to Hordak, Imp immediately comes out and exposes her lies, leaving Catra with this reaction.

* SecretTestOfCharacter: Hordak already knew Shadow Weaver had escaped, but chose to question Catra on it, seeing if she'd come clean. She didn't, and so he cuts the atmosphere while she's still inside.

* YouAreNotAlone: Scorpia tells Catra this when Catra admits that Shadow Weaver has escaped and that she's therefore in massive trouble.
