* CryCute: Good grief; [[http://img.wan.renren.com/images/2012/1024/1351070027825.jpg Robin in tears]] is ''so'' adorable you'd want to hug and protect her, and makes you completely forget she was the right-hand lady of one of the most vicious mass-murderers in the Grand Line.

* PaperThinDisguise: Ussop's mask to allow him to fight by his former-friends' side; only Luffy and Chopper were stupid/naive enough to be fooled by it; ''everyone'' else saw right through it, but stayed silent out of respect for Ussop's loyalty to help him save face (figuratively and literally).

* PoorCommunicationKills: The Marine soldiers reporting to Spandam through the Transponder Snails are knocked out before they can complete what they're saying to Spandam, leading him to believe the intruders are no threat right up until they arrive onto the roof of the Tower of Justice.

* EleventhHourSuperpower: A rare villainous example - Spandam gives Kaku and Kalifa Devil fruits as, implicitly, a reward for all their success in Water 7. Coincidentally enough, they come in ''real'' handy once CP9 collectively realizes the Straw Hats are serious about tearing Enies Lobby apart to get Robin back.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: Spandam already has to wear an ugly support brace from Franky slamming a rifle into it and smashing it up, but after Spandam beats a defenseless Robin bloody, the moment she is free of her sea stone cuffs and out of reach but still in range of Spandam, Robin blooms several hands, forces him to bend over backwards as far as his spine will allow until it ''breaks''. Somehow, Spandam makes a recovery after spending a long time in traction, but the high-ranked Cipher Pol agents that he abandoned during the Buster Call now want a piece of him!!

* HowDoIShotWeb: Kaku and Kalifa, who eat Devil Fruits shortly before the battle with the Straw Hats. Kalifa manages to get a handle on her power fairly quickly. Kaku takes awhile before he able to fully master his, though still manages to give Zoro a tough fight.

* NoMacguffinNoWinner: After being captured by the Marines and getting loose again, Franky burns the blueprints for the Pluton (which he'd had stored inside him this whole time) in front of 'em. Partly because it's better for no one to have them than for the World Government to have them and just to render CP9's eight year-long mission to steal them AllForNothing.

* ItsOkayToCry: When Luffy sets off the sad act of burning the ruined ''Merry'', Sanji sympathizes with Usopp and shows concern if he can handle it. Usopp shows no emotion and affirms he will face it like a man and his mask conceals his face so no one can tell what his emotional state even is. When the Merry starts to burn, Nami, Luffy, and Chopper begin to tear up. When ''the Merry's spirit talks back'' and apologizes for not being strong enough to carry its crew any further, Usopp collapses into ''buckets'' of waterworks, Robin and Franky lose their composure, Sanji is on the verge of tears, and only Zoro manages to hold it together as Luffy bawls that it's not the ship's fault, but their own for not taking care of it. Luffy cries out to the ''Merry'' as the ship is completely destroyed.

By the end, only Lucci is left in his one-on-one duel with Luffy. In this case, CP9 ''forced'' the Straw Hats to go through this with a ShellGame in order to stall them.

* AcousticLicense: Minor compared to most other fictional examples, but the iconic rooftop scene takes place over a gap ''so'' wide that the Straw Hats explicitly need a motor vehicle doing a RampJump to cross it. Nevertheless, the captive Robin (and her [=CP9=] captors) have zero problems hearing and being heard by the rest of the Straw Hats.

* EpicFail: Spandam attempts to communicate with his comrades on his Den Den Mushi. It turns out that he's actually used the ''Golden'' Den Den Mushi, which starts the Buster Call (he doesn't even know that it's on until Robin tells him so).

* IsThisThingStillOn: After triggering the Buster Call, Spandam uses his regular Den Den Mushi to contact his agents and announces to the entire garrison what he did. He and Robin then get into an argument where Spandam viciously admits that he's perfectly okay with the entire island and everyone on it destroyed in the carnage if it means getting promoted. When Robin points out that his snail-phone is still transmitting, Spandam meekly bluffs, "And my name is Straw Hat Luffy", which no one buys.

** Later on, when Spandam accidentally launches the Buster Call by pressing the Golden Den Den Mushi.

* OneWingedAngel: Lucci, Kaku, and Jyabura are Zoan Devil Fruit users of the Cat-Cat Fruit, Model: Leopard; Cow-Cow Fruit, Model: Giraffe; And Dog-Dog Fruit, Model: Wolf respectively.

Comprising of ten battleships commanded by five Vice-Admirals, the attack force will not discriminate, rendering entire islands down to fiery wastelands in order to destroy "enemies of justice". The sheer power of a Buster Call is so terrifying that Nico Robin was willing to surrender herself to the government she had been fleeing from her ''entire life'' just to spare the Straw Hats the fate of facing one. So powerful that it is used as sparingly as possible, and can only be ordered by ten people in the world at any given time: the three admirals, the Fleet Admiral, the Commander-in-Chief, and the Gorosei (Five Elder Stars), all of whom have the authority to issue a Buster Call either directly or through a proxy holding their golden Den Den Mushi. In fact, it's implied that the only reason Spandam had the golden Den Den Mushi is because he ''stole it'' from Admiral Aokiji, who, [[ReasonableAuthorityFigure knowing him]], would never use something like that just to eradicate a small pirate crew.

* EleventhHourSuperpower: InvokedTrope: After the awful-reality of Luffy being capable of single-handedly defeating 1800 of his men dawns upon him, Spandam orders Kalifa and Kaku to consume Devil Fruits on the spot to give them an edge against the Straw Hats.

* XRaySparks: After [[Recap/OnePieceArabastaArc several]] [[Recap/OnePieceSkypieaArc arcs]] averted this in regards to various ShockAndAwe attacks, Nami's Perfect Clima-Tact plays this straight - though ''only'' when it's used on {{Mooks}}.
