Sorry. Thought the trope was about a specific type of Doomed Hometown. Not a trope where one destroys themself.

Genki has a terrible nightmare where all of his adventures thus far were just a dream. When he wakes up, he sees that rain has made it impossible to continue for now, so he asks Holly about her family and past. Suezo tries to deflect the question, but Holly agrees to talk about it.

When Holly was very young, her father was exiled from the village because he lost the mayoral election. Her grandfather raised her instead, but she missed her father very much. As Holly grew older, she found Suezo's Mystery Disk and unlocked him. He lived with others in their village, including a Pink Suezo, a Hare Hound, and a Blue Hare.

Life in her village was peaceful, and she hoped it would always stay that way. Until... the forces of Moo came. Naga attacked the village looking for Holly's Magic Stone, and when they resisted, everyone was killed except Holly and Suezo, who were hiding.

Her dying grandfather told her of the legend of the Phoenix, entrusted her with the Magic Stone, and asked for her forgiveness for exiling her father--certain that if he had been there, the outcome of the battle would have been different. And so, Holly and Suezo set off in search of the Phoenix, until they ran into Genki. She never met up with her father, and vowed she'd never cry again.
