Now he's working on a comic called ''[[http://tapastic.com/series/PetSuccubus My Pet Succubus]]''. This one has lasted longer but he has teetered on just stopping it outrigth a few times.

* ''Webcomic/SuperEffective'', a ''Pokémon Red/Blue'' parody by the same artist of ''Webcomic/VGCats'' (and hosted on the same site), has been on indefinite hiatus since 2014. The site hosts yet another comic named ''Adventure Log'', based on ''Final Fantasy XI'', whose fate was even worse, since it was abandoned after a measly 7 pages.

* ''Webcomic/MushroomGo'' was finally [[http://mushroomgo.thecomicseries.com/comics/147/ cancelled for good in December 2013 after numerous hiatus and attempts to get a new artist after the original wanted to improve the art and update timing. Charming story about a Toad from the ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'' falling overboard and getting saved by, and joining, a pirate crew of Bowser Baddies sailing a way forward for their own lives. Lasted about 140 pages with some very complicated story, the final page provided a synopsis of what was planned, stretching what would have been at least a half-decade more of updates.

* ''Webcomic/NamiWarriors'' tried to prevent ScheduleSlip in August 2010 by going from twice a week updates to once a week updates. A few weeks later, the strip was abandoned altogether.

* ''Webcomic/RPGWorld'': A particularly nasty example as the strip was up to the final confrontation and near completion when the author, Ian Jones Quartey, finally broke into animation full time. He's since worked on [[WesternAnimation/TheVentureBrothers some minor]] [[WesternAnimation/AdventureTime cult shows]] [[WesternAnimation/BravestWarriors that you've surely]] [[WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse never heard of.]][[note]]This is sarcasm of course.[[/note]]

** Also, as of June 2016, a fan comic continuation, ''[[http://rpgworld.the-comic.org/comics/ RPG World: Fan Revival]]'', was started and has taken up where the original left off... and then proceeded to go on hiatus in November 2016. If this doesn't prove that [=RPG=] World is outright ''cursed'' to never get an ending, we don't know what does.

* Pretty much every comic on subscription-site [=WirePop=] eventually fell into this. Most have been quietly removed from the site after enough time passes. Of the 17 series that launched the site, a grand total of ''two'' did not end with the author dropping it (those two series, ''Xamra'' and ''Realms Of Ishikaze'' have since had normal endings and no longer update). The real kicker is that people had to actually pay to read the majority of the comics past the most recent updates, and they ''still'' can't reliably expect the comics they want to read to continue. It's easier to count the subversions than list them all, but the most notable dropped series include:

* Several of Brian Carroll's comics have suffered from this. His main comic, ''[[http://www.instantclassic.net/ Instant Classic]]'', has stopped and restarted several times, as has its "sister comic", ''[[http://www.genrezvouspoint.com Genrezvous Point]]''. Carroll's ''[[http://www.instantclassic.net/story.php?comicID=101 Pirates]]'' comic, however, is one of his more extreme examples. Unlike the first two, which both ''had'' been properly finished before the author decided to pick them up again, ''Pirates'' never makes it through its first story arc. After its initial abandonment, Carroll rebooted the strip into a completely different (and somewhat controversial) format, which lasted all of three strips before it was abandoned again.
** To be fair, Carroll is also a full-time filmmaker, and often notes that most of the reasons his comics end up on hiatus have to do with his involvement on film shoots or projects.

* Many [[InteractiveComic forum adventures]] over at the Webcomic/MSPaintAdventures forums usually end up being abandoned, with very few ever being completed. The completed adventures are indexed [[http://www.mspaforums.com/showthread.php?26549-Completed-Forum-Adventures-Table-of-Contents here]], though most are simply gags that only last a few pages.
** The fall of the forums destroyed a lot of such adventures, while others continued on other forums.

* ''Random Ax Of Kindness'' was last updated on November 5, 2003.

* ''Webcomic/NotInMyBackyard'' may be the oldest example. It started fairly consistently in 1998 and started to suffer rampant ScheduleSlip between June 2000 and January 2001. After getting back on schedule, it abruptly ended in August 2001, and creator Dave Taylor apparently vanished into thin air until he launched a [[http://www.forgeofhonor.com/ line of fighting toys]] in 2013. Amazingly, the strip is still up.
** WordOfGod (Dale Taylor's Website/{{Twitter}}) is that he set a goal of trying to get the strip nationally syndicated within 10 years (it had been printed locally for a few years prior), and quit when that failed to happen.

* ''[[http://altermeta.net/ Altermeta]]'' would seem to be the posterboy for this trope, complete with revival and another slipping of schedule.
** It's been rebooted again (from 8/6/2009), with the strips from the previous reboot consigned to limbo (possibly until they can be reincorporated into the time line). New strip looking good - cross your fingers, folks...

** As of November 2009, ''Instant Classic'' is updating seven days a week to close out the Brothers Donathan story before officially relaunching in January 2010. An honest reboot of ''Pirates'' is also in the works, according to the author's website.

** ''[[http://www.webcomicsnation.com/prankster/Ally/ Critterville]]'', a FunnyAnimal comic in the vein of Creator/CarlBanks' WesternAnimation/DonaldDuck comics, hasn't updated since March 2006.

* ''[[http://captainn.net/main.html N-Fans: The Series]]'' is an unfortunate blend of this trope and AuthorExistenceFailure. The comic was about the original creator and illustrator, Webster Swenson, and several of his friends going into the world of video games a la ''WesternAnimation/CaptainNTheGameMaster''. Sadly, Webster passed away unexpectedly in 2007 due to complications from diabetes. His friends who inspired the other characters made a few attempts to keep the website alive and continue the comic, but to no avail; the comic has stagnated since 2008, and even the forums - the last part of the website to continue to see updates - fell into disuse in 2015.

* ''Webcomic/{{Pilot}}'' has not updated since March 2019 and it's Website/{{Twitter}} account has been deleted.

* ''Crimson Latex'' was cancelled after 36 strips, but the author later returned with Webcomic/{{Collar 6}} as a SpiritualSuccessor, bringing in a number of the same characters but rebooting continuity.

* ''Webcomic/TheMeek'' started off reasonably well, the first three forty-five page chapters taking eight, eleven and fourteenn months respectively to appear. Chapter four saw severe ScheduleSlip, taking over four ''years'' to complete. Chapter five took around a year and a half to be finished but things ground to a virtual halt with Chapter six - the cover was published in December 2018 but the first page was not published until February 2020 and there have been no updates since. At the current rate of publishing, it will take over ''fifty years'' for chapter six to be completed.

* ''Webcomic/MOLEBASHED'' has been taken offline by the creator and is now only available in print form.

* ''LadySpectraAndSparky'' stopped updating in June 2019 with no explanation.
