* ''Bard Quest'' from ''Webcomic/MSPaintAdventures'' was abandoned after only a few dozen pages when the branching storylines became too confusing and complicated to bother with. ''Webcomic/JailBreak'' was also orphaned for a few years, but finally got a (hasty one-page) ending during the break before ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'''s end of act 5 flash.

** As of June 2016, a fan comic continuation, ''[[http://rpgworld.the-comic.org/comics/ RPG World: Fan Revival]]'', was started and has taken up where the original left off... and then proceeded to go on hiatus in November 2016. If this doesn't prove that [=RPG=] World is outright ''cursed'' to never get an ending, we don't know what does.

* ''Webcomic/{{Candi}}'' has been on hiatus since July 2016. Starline Hodges stated she was burned out on it and wanted to try new projects. She didn't rule out a return someday.

* ''[[Webcomic/DoubleK DOUBLE K]]'' quietly slipped further and further from its set schedule, and basically stopped updating in 2013. This was accompanied by the author gradually deleting his online presence, starting with his online store, then the comic's site on Website/SmackJeeves, then his {{Website/Tumblr}} and {{Website/Twitter}} accounts, and then finally, after a long period of inactivity the mirror of his comic on his deviantart account. Though that doesn't mean the comic can't be found anyomore, as the comic's supprisingly large readerbase had already created several pdf files of the comic as well as an Imgur mirror which you can find a link to in the comic's works page.

* [[http://carlos-the-g.deviantart.com Carlos G.]] simply stopped updating no less than four webcomics: ''The Smashing Adventures of The Bottomleys'' (once available for download, now no more), ''[[http://lowroad75.comicgenesis.com/ Giselle]]'', ''[[http://leth.smackjeeves.com/comics/1122262/chapter-1-page-1/ Leth Hate]]'' and ''[[http://cottontail.smackjeeves.com/comics/1939860/page-1-liar/ Cottontail]]'' (unceremoniously dropped after just 15 pages). Will he manage to give an ending to his latest work ''[[http://tapastic.com/series/PetSuccubus My Pet Succubus]]''? (Answer: probably not)

* The "About" page of ''Instruction Space'' [[http://visucomics.mechafetus.com/about/ states]] that the creator (Jonathan Kim, better known as [=PersonaSama=] on the net) wanted to make a webcomic to be updated weekly for a year. It lasted four months (from August to November 2010) with a few [[ScheduleSlip slips]], then Persona told that it was on hiatus, but that he was working on some "cool new project" to be finished in February 2011... then nothing, until an update on March 2012. Let's see where this goes.
** Apparently nowhere, since it's now June 2014 and nothing changed.

2012, which was the last one.

* ''[[http://www.smbthecomic.com/ Super Mario Bros. 2]]'', the (more or less) official webcomic sequel of [[Film/SuperMarioBros the movie]], which famously ended with an unresolved SequelHook. Unlike the parent movie, the webcomic didn't even manage to get an ending: it was supposed to last ten chapters and ended abruptly in 2015 during the fourth one.

* Pretty much every comic on subscription-site [=WirePop=] eventually fell into this. Most have been quietly removed from the site after enough time passes. Of the 17 series that launched the site, a grand total of ''two'' did not end with the author dropping it (those two series, ''Xamra'' and ''Realms Of Ishikaze'' have since had normal endings and no longer update). The real kicker is that people had to actually pay to read the majority of the comics past the most recent updates, and they ''still'' can't reliably expect the comics they want to read to continue. It's easier to count the subversions than list them all, but the most notable dropped series include:

** The author eventually resurfaced on a dedicated [[https://spellsandwhistles.tumblr.com/ Tumblr]] that archives the entirety of the series, as well as an admission that he considers the series an OldShame and it will ''definitely'' not be returning.
