Nerd isn't a trope anymore

* Otacon [[spoiler:screaming out "E.E.!" during Emma's death scene or after she is killed in gameplay. This is a ''horribly awkward'' nickname to say, let alone scream dramatically, since it sounds less like a desperate attempt to get a response and more like a stereotypical {{Nerd}} afraid of his own shadow. This is made even worse when Emma actually asks him to call her "Emma": he asks "what's wrong with E.E.", and with the best/worst comedic timing possible, she ''immediately drops dead'']]. The moment just afterwards, [[spoiler:where Otacon sees Emma's parrot and yells "E.E.?! DAMN!"]], is also pretty narmy. At least he starts calling her "Emma" in the fourth game, but it's a bit too late for that by then, ain't it, Hal?

Bastard Boyfriend is no longer a trope

* The Deja Vu mission in Ground Zeroes is either a funny and heartwarming CallBack to the original Metal Gear Solid, or it's this trope due to how bizarre the whole thing is. The UncannyValley nature of Snake being rendered with [=PS1=] graphics while the environment remains unaffected; the vital importance placed on recreating certain scenes from the game, regardless of how banal the original scene in question was (with a leitmotif playing and dramatic camera angles to compare the screenshot with the original it's replicating); the empassioned way that Kiefer Sutherland yells "''[[SayMyName LIQUIIIIID!]]''"; and all of it capped off in a bizarre quiz section in which random dialogue has been repurposed, with the implication of there being a live audience who cheer and boo when required.

* In the original Metal Gear Solid 1, right after exiting the communications tower, Snake gets shot by Sniper Wolf. A moment later, [[MadeOfIron he gets up]]... and then promptly ''[[WhatAnIdiot kneels down in the open field, right in Sniper Wolf's field of view, to take a codec call]].'' The Twin Snakes ''mercifully'' fixed this nonsense by having Wolf's initial bullet miss Snake by a few inches, and then Snake wisely diving behind a tree for cover and ''then'' taking his codec call.

** Even worse is the dying guard that was immediately dead and fried in the original.. but gets back up in ''Twin Snakes'' panicking, trying to put his flames out as he approaches Snake for help. Snake summarily throat-punches the poor bastard, who falls over like a sack of potatoes and then dies ''and'' is put out a second later, like Snake has some sort of magic touch.

** The ''Twin Snakes'' "fix" is hindered by one thing probably making the scene a bit too over-the-top, though: disarmed of his weapon and straight in Wolf's sights, Snake suddenly ''leaps more than twice his entire body height to backflip'' onto the stock of his grounded rifle. He then catches the gun out of the air, does a full clockwise rotation for seemingly no reason, and then shoots Wolf before she can hit him a second later. Yes, he just [[MemeticMutation 360 no-scoped]] off a superhuman backflip that even had Wolf confused.

Making the cutcenes on [[UsefulNotes/ThreeDOInteractiveMultiplayer 3DO]] hardware without changing the engine after being scrapped in favor of the [=PS1=] made the game look dated, even by the standards of the time.

* When the guards go to knock out Snake, the original version has him down and out almost instantly. ''Twin Snakes'' has him get hit with a gun up the back of the head as the guards prep for a job well done-- and then he just [[DeathGlare turns and stares]] at the guy that did it as they [[OhCrap cower in sheer terror.]] And ''then'' he passes out seconds later, and, much like the altered Ocelot fail scene above, the scene moves on like it didn't change at all and like that guard [[BringMyBrownPants totally didn't shit himself]].

** A later scene at the torture section has him [[GunTwirling twirl his revolver]] to look cool as per usual -- up until ''Twin Snakes'' adds hilarity to the scene by having him, of all people, ''[[EpicFail fumble his weapon to the floor]]''. Without even so much as a tweak to the scene's dialogue, he then points the gun at Snake after lifting it up [[YouDidntSeeAnything as if pretending it didn't happen.]]

Added DiffLines:

** In the original, Snake stumbles upon Liquid and Ocelot chatting about their plans for activating the Metal Gear by [[CutsceneIncompetence accidentally running in front of the open door]] and then hiding, making you wonder how they missed that (though they did have a camera on him that he somehow [[FailedASpotCheck failed to notice]], so they knew the whole time anyway). In ''Twin Snakes'', they try to make Snake seem less like he bumbled into the scene by having him approach the door wearily.. and then ''somersault side-flip over the entire doorway'' for seemingly no reason other than to justify getting him to where he took cover in the original scene.

** In ''Twin Snakes'', [[PressXToNotDie mashing the button to resist]] way too fast can actually trigger the [[NoFairCheating silent autofire reaction]], even if you're playing legitimately, which results in the electrocution never stopping until you inevitably die. Hearing Liquid scold Ocelot as he meekly apologizes that "it happened again" makes it become extra hilarious as a result.

* Let's face it, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SNo8h-KfAU the whole VGA trailer was this.]] Doesn't stop the action from being completely awesome, though.
* Senator Armstrong lives and breathes narm. Though it seems to be intentional and at least partly self-aware satire of the series itself.
** [[MemeticMutation "Nanomachines, son!"]]
* The subtitle "Revengeance" is either one of the [[NarmCharm most-ludicrous-yet-coolest]] {{portmanteau}}s ever or just silly.
** Turns out it's actually an obsolete but existent word, but that doesn't make it any less narmy.
* Raiden's reaction (or lack of) to having his left arm severed? "Not again!" Yes, he's a cyborg from the jaw down, but come on!
* Raiden's really been Snake-ing it up in this game. Sometimes, it's hard to not cringe when you hear him like that. Even more so when falls off high ground. Though most of his "Snake" voice is only done when he's being [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Jack The Ripper.]]
** What's more amusing is his Snake impersonation is so bad it's closer to a [[Series/TalesFromTheCrypt Crypt Keeper]] impersonation - especially so given that the first person he breaks the voice out for is, in English, voiced by the ''actual'' [[Creator/JohnKassir Crypt Keeper]].
* Sam chastising Raiden for being a hypocritical murderer: "You ever think about them? When you're chopping them into hamburger?"
* When Sam receives damage his voice actor gives a weird delivery. It feels like if Sam is going through a reverse puberty.
* Speaking of Sam and weird delivery. When Armstrong pierces his chest in his DLC, he sounds like he's having TheGruntingOrgasm. And that facial expression doesn't help.
* Raiden's exclamation of "THE MEMES" and all the various discussions of such, given the [[MemeticMutation meaning]] most people associate with the word nowadays.
* Occasionally, some characters have pauses in their lines that ''really'' aren't necessary.
-->'''Raiden:''' What do you want with the Prime Minister?!\\
'''Sundowner:''' I want him......''dead.''
** And later on, Sundowner gloriously talking about the "good old days after 9-11." Apparently we needed Sundowner to wax joyous about much fun he found the War On Terror to get how evil he is.
* The fact that Mistral uses two of her [[MultiArmedAndDangerous many arms]] to control her breasts' [[{{Gainaxing}} bouncing]] is both hilarious and arousing for many players.
* Courtney's GagBoobs. Seriously, they're half the size of beach balls and she wears her shirt open so that you're always looking at her cleavage whether you want to or not. You'll be on the codec with her discussing some serious humanitarian problem and trying to focus on what she has to say, and the inappropriate {{fanservice}} just pulls you out of the moment.

* The game has an example similar to the ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura'' one noted in Narm.{{Anime}}. It would be much easier to take The Boss seriously if she wasn't voiced by [[WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy Diane Simmons]]/ [[WesternAnimation/SpongebobSquarepants Pearl.]] It didn't make her any less badass, but you may spend the Virtuous Mission half-expecting her to reply to Major Tom with a cheerful "That's ''right'', Tom!"
* The theme song, "Snake Eater", done in a James Bond-esque style, is both SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic ''and'' Narm at the same time. The ''music'' is great, but the lyrics contain lines like "Some day you go through the rain, some day you feed on a tree frog...." The incredible corniness is part of what makes it so good.
** As well as the title-- "Snake Eater"... well, we'll let you guess what "snake" is code for in porn.
** There's a reason that when the theme starts playing halfway through the final boss battle, it starts off as an instrumental-only version.
** This is part of the reason why the memetic "Ladder Sequence" is so memorable - it's just Snake climbing up an incredibly long ladder while the vocals to "Snake Eater" plays in the background for literally no reason. Doesn't help that it reminded people of the widely hated ''VideoGame/CharliesAngels'' video game, which also had a really long ladder climbing sequence, and the kicker is that [=MGS3=]'s sequence is more then twice as long as that one.

** ''Webcomic/{{The Last Days of FOXHOUND}}'' had a [[http://www.doctorshrugs.com/foxhound/comic.php?id=284 field day with that one.]]

[[MoodWhiplash And then we go from Narm]] to [[ColdBloodedTorture one of the most horrifying and gruesome torture scenes ever]]...while Volgin is proving that he is ''utterly inept'' at interrogation or hiding classified information.
* The line [[spoiler:"You are above even the Boss. I hereby award you the title Big Boss."]] from the ending can comes across as quite narmy. Retroactively, [[spoiler:"Big Boss"]] as a title becomes this since it literally sounds like [[UsefulNotes/LyndonJohnson LBJ]] came up with it on the fly.
** It being something he made up on the spot would have been ''less'' silly and even somewhat in character for [=LBJ=] ("Guess we're gonna have to call you 'Big Boss' now, son"), but it's made clear that "Boss" and "Big Boss" are honest-to-God special ranks bestowed by the U.S. Government in this universe.
** What really sells the narm is that President Johnson says the above line in the same tone of voice you'd expect to use for congratulating a kindergartner for tying their shoes for the first time.

* Not even ''Metal Gear Solid Ghost Babel'' is immune. After killing the boss Marionette Owl, he says that he and his unit have vowed vengeance on 'Anonymous'. This was fine at the time; but with the rise of certain ImageBoards, [[HilariousInHindsight the effect is reminiscent of a certain FOX news broadcast.]] "His madness surpasses even my own," says Owl (the lien was aimed at Black Arts Viper but the dialogue is sloppily written that it instead looks like its directed at Anonymous.) Considering Owl's FreudianExcuse was that he found the murdered, shredded body of his friend Laura as a child, you can understand he'd have such a hatred for a board full of trolling and {{Guro}}.

"that frequency" =/= "high frequency"

** Mei-Ling's assertion that "At that frequency, the waves will start to evaporate any living person" is hilarious to anyone who knows that microwaves are LOW frequency. They're between radio waves and light waves on the electromagnetic spectrum.

* The amount of throaty SayMyName moments, coughing, hacking and gurgling that Snake does in this is just plain silly. Its almost to the point when one wonders if the reason Kojima didn't get Creator/DavidHayter back for [=MGS5=] was to spare his throat the damage. It affected poor David's Snake voice as far forward as Peace Walker too!

Added DiffLines:

** Big Mama effectively defines this trope for the third act because of all the forced biblical references she makes, apparently to make up for the lack of them outside her ending narration in ''[=MGS3=]'', from the aforementioned apple popping up out of nowhere as she picks it up and declares it to "appropriately" be the "forbidden fruit", to her {{insisten|tTerminology}}ce that [[spoiler:the van they keep Big Boss' brain-dead body in]] is his "pyx" or his "Holy Ark".

*** Given that is assumed that the Beast were victims of '90s wars, and given what happened in Yuguslavia in the same decade is also like they WastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot.

*** Worse than that: nanomachines, which the game consistently assigns near magically omnipotent properties - in a later game they're able to ''reattach a recently-severed limb'' simply by placing it back on the stump for two seconds - somehow could only "hold back" the cancer, rather than kill the cancerous cells and cure it entirely.

## Snake's [[SingleIssueWonk continued insistence across the first two acts]] that every single bit of WorldBuilding exposition is in some way related to the Patriots, even as everyone he espouses this to starts treating him like an obsessed looney for it. The fact that he turns out to be right ''on every count'' does little to assuage this.

* Naomi's final speech. "We wished to free the captured foxes. To let them run free in the wild."
** Especially considering she's standing in front of BIRDS.
* After the mighty SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome where Rex and Ray fight it out, there's a thoroughly ridiculous scene where Snake falls over and Ocelot's plan is seemingly to run off while laughing like a twit. It's like a militarised Benny Hill routine.

''birds''.
* After the mighty SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome where Rex and Ray fight it out, there's a thoroughly ridiculous scene where Snake falls over and Ocelot's plan is seemingly breaks his arm, leaving him to run off limp onward in an almost too-fast jerky manner while laughing one-handing his rifle (which, naturally, he refuses to actually fire until Ocelot is well out of harm's way) with his other dangling uselessly behind him, as Ocelot runs off, giggling like a twit.twit and occasionally turning around to point and laugh at Snake like a schoolyard bully. It's like a militarised Benny Hill routine.

* The cutscene after the epic Metal Gear fight near the end of Act 4: An injured Snake, having fucked his arm up mid fight watches as Liquid Ocelot joyfully runs out of his reach whilst turning around and giggling and pointing like a school playground bully. It's even more worth it for the too-fast jerky, almost comical way Snake limps at him, assault rifle in one hand as his injured arm dangles.
