Solo project by Music/YoshikiHayashi that has spanned over 10 years of work. Arguably a CastingCouch, but has produced some very interesting solo music. VioletUK has produced music for, among others, the movies Film/Catacombs ("Blue Butterfly,"), Film/RepoTheGeneticOpera ("VUK-R"), Goemon ("Rosa"), a Japanese news station ("Blue Sky Heaven"), as well as a series of previous songs that were performed in a 2002 symphonic concert (one of which, "Unnamed Song," was CoveredUp by Music/XJapan vocalist Toshi in his 2010 farewell solo live). Technically (though it can also be considered under Yoshiki's solo classical project), the 2014 song Hero for Anime/SaintSeiya: Legend of Sanctuary also is a VioletUK song due to the project's sole remaining vocalist (Katie Fitzgerald) being the vocalist of record for it.

* Horror: Most of the US work VioletUK has done is horror or SplatterPunk, such as Catacombs and Repo!.

* ButNotTooForeign: Played straight and defied at the same time. Violet UK has had only one Japanese vocalist (two if you count Toshi's covering two songs), and it seems a prerequisite for vocalists to be female, thin, modelesque, European, and preferably blonde (though Nicole Scherzinger was an exception for European and blonde) almost to the degree of UnfortunateImplications. Therefore the trope is played straight for Hollywood, but defied for Japan.

Added DiffLines:

* SelfHarm: The lyrics of Hero reference SelfHarm, suicidal feelings, and the struggle to overcome both.

* ContractualPurity: Averted and PlayedStraight at the same time. Yoshiki is one of the few people in the Japanese music scene that can do almost whatever he wants either artistically or in his personal life and get away with it, if not cheered on for it, which should give him ultimate creative freedom for Violet UK. However, the bread and butter of current Violet UK work seems to be for commercials and films, both of which have at least some limits (e.g. more instrumentals, no BDSM) and which force him to maintain a better reputation (and to overcome the reputation of being a procrastinating perfectionist that will happily run a project way over time and over budget to get it right.)

* DevelopmentHell: Violet UK has existed in some form since 2000 but in a case of a LongRunner that produces very little output, has only had a few songs (most of which were made for films or commercials or the like) and appearances at Music/XJapan concerts as mostly a fashion show set to some background electronic/instrumental music, and while an album has been promised since 2007 or so, it never comes into existence. Most of this is due to Yoshiki's perfectionism as an artist.

* TrollingCreator: Some people suspect Yoshiki and the entire project to be this due to its never seeming to get out of DevelopmentHell.

* PromotionalVideo: Only one actual one exists - Confusion/White Poem II. There is a video for Sex and Religion that is allegedly fanmade but has some very high production value and has archival footage from Yoshiki's collection that hadn't widely circulated the internet outside it - leading to some speculation that the video was either made by Yoshiki himself/his in-house video staff and given to a staffer posing as a fan to post/the account posting it was his SockPuppet, or that the fan was a high-level kankeisha who was either given the footage or the video.

** One also appears in the fanmade PV for Sex and Religion - part of the composite footage the editor used was from a TV documentary on Yoshiki featuring him driving a white Lamborghini.

* TheImmodestOrgasm: In the full version of Blind Dance, someone's having this complete with a ClusterFBomb. Yoshiki's moaning/panting during the drum solo in Sex And Religion might also qualify.

Added DiffLines:

* GutPunch: Amethysts lyrics. The instrumental version just sounds like a pretty instrumental semi-classical piece. The lyrics are pure, raw GriefSong over a lover lost to death.
** In the commercial/radio edit of Blind Dance, "the nuclear facilities." The hint that the piece is ApocalypticLog and far HarsherInHindsight post a certain event in 2011.

Added DiffLines:

* ImprobablyFemaleCast: In regard to VisualKei at least - aside from Yoshiki himself, Toshi covering a couple of songs, and Music/Sugizo guest starring on guitar once, Violet UK is mostly female members at least in stage performance.

Added DiffLines:

* OdeToIntoxication: Sex And Religion, possibly VUK-R

Added DiffLines:

* EmergencyBroadcast: Fused with ApocalypticLog for the ambient sound commercial cut of Blind Dance.
* EpicRocking: The full version of Blind Dance, especially once the drums come in. Sex and Religion, again for the drums. Blue Butterfly is almost there.

Added DiffLines:

* GoingCosmic: Happens during the full version of Blind Dance, and Sex and Religion tries for it with its lyrical theme. Rosa is a more nuanced version not related to sex but to angst.
* GrayRainOfDepression: Referred to in the lyrics of I'll Be Your Love.
