The meme proved so popular that idioms based on it developed among the proto-Romulans, e.g. that a particularly stubborn person "had too much Earth in him", and the fact that it was a joke was gradually forgotten.

The video may have even inspired the creation of an entire subreddit dedicated to what various battery-operated items sound like when their batteries are low.
