* TallDarkAndBishoujo: Shina Machi. Arguably Otake Akitsu.

* NotSoHarmless: He might be built like a stick and look like a geek, and he's unemployed, but K wasn't chosen by Vice for nothing.

* SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism: It's really hard to tell where the series sits. On one hand, ThePowerOfFriendship / ThePowerOfLove have been played up quite a bit. The good guys have had some inspiring and rather idealistic speeches, but, let's face it, [[{{Jerkass}} they can be assholes.]] They range from being rude, to threatning each other. The embodiment of good is a prime example of HeroicSociopath, who may suffer from BlackAndWhiteInsanity. They've even talked about how [[{{ChildrenAreInnocent}} childlike innocence]] is scary and troubling for adults. As for the bad guys, some have shown some soft spots, (or at least, [[{{HarmlessVillain}} aren't all that evil]]), but others are [[{{CompleteMonster}} complete monsters]]. The series has some serious mood swings to say the least.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotAwesome: Eco's legendary sushi, which he uses as a metaphor.

** To a lesser extent, the Club of Good Doji. They often bicker among themselves, and their doji are very rude and aloof, but they are all working together to capture Dunstan.

* RapeIsFunnyWhenItIsMaleOnMale: Averted in chapter 12 with Service and Avaro. [[spoiler: Averted again in Chapter 21 with Rune and Yamato.]]

* {{Token Loli}}: Oume for Yamato's group of friends. Hana or Mizho for the Evil Doji Branch, although you may have a different opnion on that...

* AnimeAnatomy: Played straight with the humans.

* ForcedToWatch: Vice was going to make 12th century Yamato watch his comrades be killed.
* {{Fridge Horror}}: [[spoiler: Yamato is given an option to not get Ultimo and become his master. If he does this, Ultimo would go back in time and find someone else. It could be assumed that Yamato was only reincarnated because he was Ultimo's master. So wouldn't that mean if he declined teaming up with Ultimo, he woldn't be reincarnated? Present day Yamato may ''never have existed, with everyone else's lives going on without him.'']] Yikes.
** Wouldn't that also mean that others in the past wouldn't get reincarnated too? Such as Rune, Sayama... wow.
*** And their friends so far aren't reincarnations. They would have replacement friends and not even know it. Same with Yamato's mother. (and Rune and Sayama's parents for that matter.) She would have a repalcement for ''her son'' and not be any the wiser.
*** The entire concept of Dunstan using a human soul is pretty scary. I mean he would have had to get it from someone right? It's not like he could just make it. ''He may have ripped out someone's soul, or maybe even more, for an experiment.''
* FridgeLogic: So if the good doji aren't allowed to kill, even if its one of their enemies, then how is Ultimo going to defeat Vice? Unless he finally forgets [[{{AxCrazy}} all of his morals]], there isn't really another way to beat Vice and prove once and for all that good is more powerful than evil.
** Well actually, there is. Turn the Evil Douji good. If Good is truely mightier than evil, then that is probably the only real way to win. If they took the above option, that would still be a victory for evil (if not the evil Douji), because the Good Douji would have stopped being good.
** The final objective for both sides is apparently to deal with Dunston; the good Doji masters want to prevent him from causing the Hundred Machine Funeral, and the evil Doji masters want him out of the way.
** Dunstan's insistence on the Hundred Machine Funeral being the final outcome. With all the powers at their disposal there has to be a million other ways for either camp to triumph ''without'' ripping each other and the whole earth to pieces.

* PeekABoo: When the masters are in Icon mode. Averted in the English translation, where they fully cover the area below the waistline with underwear.
** Makes you wonder how the English translation will censor the ladies' areas when they go into Icon mode.
*** GodivaHair, though that will be hard for Desir's master, [[{{BobHaircut}} Miyoshi.]]
*** Turns out that in Machi's case, [[spoiler:[[http://www.dm5.com/Comic/MH77/Comics-77321_e7771fa0_page-41.htm Takei barely showed anything]].]]
*** In chapter 20, the {{Godiva Hair}} was used everytime she was shown. None the less, the english version will probably use the {{Digital Bikini}} method for them.

** Rune and Yamato could count as well.

* ArtisticAge: Eco. YourMileageMayVary, though. He's only ''thirty eight'', yet Yamato and others call him an old man based on his looks.
** Yoichi is supposed to be in his 40's. He looks much older and Service even calls him "old man."

* {{Covert Pervert}}: Some of the glimpses into Yamato's head have shown Sayama in more, ''interesting'' outfits. (One time wearing nothing at all). Although, {{Your Mileage May Vary}}, seeing as he is a 16 year old boy, and has been in love with her for seven years.
** More blatant with [[{{YaoiFanGirl}} Kiyose.]]

* HoYay: Despite Rune's GenderBender, his love for Yamato never faded. Jealous uses his love to make Rune his master.
** Yamato begins to see this in EVERY gesture Rune gives him after pressing the ResetButton. He freaks out to the point of climbing up a pole.
** Yamato also [[{{Shotacon}} nearly kisses Ultimo]] to revive him.

* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Akitsu loves Rune, who loves Yamato, who loves Sayama[[spoiler:, who loves the Evil Pro Golfer]]. ''Much'' of this is the result of IncompatibleOrientation.

* {{Black And Gray Morality}}: In general, the bad guys, act like bad guys and do bad stuff. The good guys however, can be at mildest [[{{JerkAss}} complete jerks]], to the extreme of vicious and even a little crazy.
** Takei seems to be aware of this, as he even commented on Ultimo himself that he was made based on Dunstan's ideas about pure good. This only furthers the fact that Dunstan is ''really'' [[{{TheUnfettered}} twisted]].

* NoGender: Given that Karakuri Douji are actually advance robots from the future/past/it's complicated.

* {{X Meets Y}}: {{Zatch Bell}} meets {{Astroboy}}.

* {{What Do You Mean Its for Kids}}: A Shonen Jump issue implies that {{Stan Lee}} thinks there are going to be a lot of young readers. The english translation was censored a lot by most 13+ standards, but it still has a lot of not so kid friendly things in it. Honestly, aside from no swearing, it's hardly kid-friendly at all. Just look at ''chapter 12''.
** Then in an online interview, Takei said that everything we've seen so far is just the series ''getting started''. It's more likely that the series will be even less for young readers, than more so.
