** Hannah Ascher suffers a variant. She's a gorgeous woman, but she lives in a world where most gorgeous women (and men, to be fair) are some sort of supernatural predator using sex appeal as a lure (Sidhe, White and Red Court Vampires, some Ghouls, etc.), so even though Hannah herself is completely human, most of her peers avoid her out of instinct because they've been conditioned to view inhuman beauty as a warning sign. If she looked ''less'' pretty, she'd definitely have a more fulfilling love life.[[spoiler: Of course, she also proves everybody wary of her ''completely right'' by taking up Lasciel's coin, but Hannah isn't self-aware enough to make the connection.]]

* Lúthien in ''Literature/TheSilmarillion'' dies earlier than she should because "the flame of the beauty of Lúthien as she wore [the Silmaril] was too bright for mortal lands."" Her beauty also results in her being the target of lustful men, from the evil elves Celegorm & Curufin to [[SatanicArchetype Morgoth himself]]. It was even said that Morgoth's plan to rape Luthien was the most vile thought he ever had, and considering Morgoth killed tens of thousands of people in his conquest of Middle-Earth (and plan to kill countless more), that's saying something.

Earlier, she is even dumped by her long-time boyfriend for being too pretty to be a future President's wife. Multiple times throughout the film, she's assumed to be a DumbBlonde because she's an extreme GirlyGirl, but actually has a 4.0 GPA, and passes the LSAT with only one point less than a perfect score, and proves herself to be a dedicated lawyer.

Not only was she also as rich as him, thanks to her fitness empire, but she genuinely loved her husband. [[spoiler: The actual murderer is her stepdaughter, who was so disgusted by the age difference that she was actually trying to kill Brooke herself!]]

** The pirate "White Horse" Cavendish is such a parody of Bishonen PrettyBoy characters that random women often faint in his presence. Apparently, he was the prince of a kingdom who was exiled because he was such a ChickMagnet that none of the women wanted to marry anyone else. Cavendish is also a supreme AttentionWhore who enjoys the ships of fangirls chasing after him.

A very specific form of AppearanceAngst and/or BlessedWithSuck that comes up regularly where a character's beauty is a source of problems. This is usually because of its effect on other characters, often times inspiring [[GreenEyedMonster jealousy]], [[AttractivenessIsolation intimidation]], [[BeautyIsBad suspicion]], or [[ReluctantFanserviceGirl unwanted]] [[StalkerWithACrush attention]]. Otherwise, the character is only noticed because of their looks and not their personal merits. In cases where a character complains about their beauty, expect their complaints to be dismissed or add more resentment from other characters.

* One of Creator/ArinaTanemura's one-shot manga stories dealt with this: a girl named Eve who was stunningly beautiful and hated it. She was a victim of attempted kidnapping, no girls would talk to her because she was rumored to have stolen a girl's boyfriend, and she never knows if boys are only interested in her for her looks or not. On the other hand, she gets beauty treatments and buys cute, expensive clothes because "people say a cute girl who isn't fashionable must be a slob." Thus, this trope is either self-inflicted or a [[MortonsFork damned if you do, damned if you don't situation depending on perspective]] [[note]] Note to editors: don't add your perspective here. RapeAsDrama is the most vivid form of illustrating this "curse". This trope is also a CyclicalTrope in that a given audience may or may not take it seriously depending on current events and the time period. ** Over the course of it, there's a subtle [[DeconstructedTrope realistic]] version of what the curse of being beautiful really means: when people hate you for being beautiful, they go out of their way to look for your flaws in order to prove you're not ''perfect'', which implies both that you're so close to perfect that people have to actively seek out any imperfections you have, and that even the smallest, single one of those imperfections is evidence that you're a lesser person who has the un-earned benefit of being beautiful. Jana's running irritation with Taffy's one crooked bicuspid continues on-and-off for most of the book, and blinds her to the fact that Taffy ''doesn't actually have friends''. The worst thing she ever does is wear the same dress to school as Jana and look better in it because of [[BuxomIsBetter her more developed figure]]. All the "snobby" behavior the Club disdains is really just ''loneliness'', filtered through [[UnreliableNarrator the eyes of girls who go out of their way to hate her.]]
** The follow-up series ''The Fabulous Five'' plays this straight too. Taffy (while still present), has been replaced by SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute Laura [=McCall=], who, like Taffy, is blonde and beautiful. When Laura beats out Beth for the role of Glinda in the school's production of ''Literature/TheWonderfulWizardOfOz'', a jealous and angry Beth immediately decides that this is because Laura is buxom. It couldn't possibly be that Laura possessed genuine acting talent (never mind that Beth has just insinuated that the casting director is a pedophile). Laura being an AlphaBitch doesn't help much, but Beth uses her bust size, something she has no control over, as yet another reason to dislike her.
