* A small, private historically black college in Lynchburg, Virginia was founded in 1886 as the Lynchburg Baptist Seminary. After being called Virginia Seminary and College for a long time, in 1996 it changed its name to Virginia University of Lynchburg. For its sports teams, it's adopted the branding of "Virginia-Lynchburg", which would lead most people to wrongly assume that it's a campus of the University of Virginia, and the school doesn't really go out of its way to discourage this misconception.

Super Mario World 5 is a fictitious bootleg, it is not a real game, it was a ROM hack made by a child to cash in on 7 Grand Dad's meme status. This should be made abundantly clear if you watch footage of any other Mario bootleg hack that isn't Grand Dad, they all make an effort to actually replace Mario's sprites if the sprite can fit over the original character.

* ''Super Mario World 5'', which is just ''Mickey Mouse III: Balloon Dreams'' with Mario's head pasted on Mickey's body.

* Even LEGO knock-offs. {{Franchise/LEGO}} has its share of these due to its popularity. Because LEGO's age and [[StuckOnBandAidBrand sheer, overwhelming dominance]] in the [[BrandNameTakeover modular plastic building block]] market gives it a massive advantage over these upstart manufacturers, these tend to be cheap modifications of sets, or fill niches LEGO doesn't, such as and war themes, which LEGO has chosen to avoid. Often, they will not copy new parts, whose patents haven't expired yet, but ''will'' copy older ones and devise new parts to fill the same niche as the LEGO counterpart (e.g. minifigures are patented in the Commonwealth until at least 2025, but MegaBloks has released a posable figure that performs a similar role, but doesn't use the same limb design and lacks removable head and legs). Fortunately, it's fairly easy to tell the difference when you have one of the same sort of piece from each to observe; LEGO elements tend to have better 'clutch power', subtlely different colours, and have ''LEGO'' printed on the top of each stud; fakes will often have blank studs, or even have the plastic injection on the stud, something LEGO never does. By the way, as one of the largest geek communities on earth, fans tend to ''strongly'' favour LEGO to alternative products, and will vehemently oppose any remarks that other brands are superior in any way.
**Even
though they are compatible with {{Franchise/LEGO}}, LEGO, many kids are often disappointed to receive Mega Bloks instead of proper LEGO from a parent, relative, or friend unaware of the difference between the two and just going for the cheaper product. Unlike most examples, Mega Bloks doesn't really actively pretend to be LEGO -- its branding and products are fairly well-differentiated from LEGO, it's fairly easy to tell the difference when you have one of the same sort of piece from each to observe, and it tends to produce relatively different sorts of sets with a greater emphasis on licensed cash-ins. cash-ins (including Videogame/Halo). According to the Wiki/SCPFoundation, sentient self-assembling LEGO brick specimens aren't particularly pleased to see instances of Mega Bloks either...either. * And even older. The Roman legions became shoddier versions of themselves several times: first, when they started issuing military equipment to the conscripts (before, every legionnaire had to buy his own on his own money; this immediately dropped the quality of Roman armor and helmets from "best your money can by" to "manufactured by the lowest bidder"), then when they started recruiting non-citizens and granting citizenship for the service. The following barbarization of the legions drove shoddiness even further. This was in part mitigated by improving the weaponry, recruiting auxiliaries and increasing the numbers, but the quality or the recruits slowly dropped all through the Roman history.
