** Chancellor Gowron becomes increasingly corrupt during the war, to the point of attempting a UriahGambit against the popular and far more badass General Martok out of paranoia that Martok himself will attempt a KlingonPromotion. (Nothing could be farther from the truth, as Martok's UndyingLoyalty demonstrates.) Eventually, Worf is forced to challenge Gowron to a DuelToTheDeath, and wins -- and because Gowron died in honorable combat, Worf performs the traditional DeathWail to show that Gowron is on his way to [[WarriorHeaven Sto-Vo-Kor]].

Compare VillainsDyingGrace when the villain is portrayed sympathetically as they are dying, DeathEqualsRedemption for when a dying villain chooses to do a final good act and AlasPoorVillain when the character's death (speech) provides a reason for the fans to feel sorry for them. See also HeelFaceDoorSlam, when the poor guy doesn't even get to redeem themself before dying. Non-protagonist [[TheAtoner atoners]] are especially likely to be hit by this trope.

Part of the point of Yondu's arc is that, while he has undoubtedly lived an often selfish life, it's also been a mixed bag. The sacrifice isn't even the first time we see him risk himself for Peter onscreen, so calling it his first selfless act makes it sound more singular than it really is.
