* Technically, it's not a gun, but it's the same idea: In ''Manga/DragonBall}'', free-falling KidHero Goku finished off the original Demon King Piccolo by firing a [[KamehameHadoken Kamehameha]] at the ground, [[RammingAlwaysWorks ramming into him with his one good fist]] (his other arm was too injured to move to form the attack, so no, [[WhyDontYaJustShootHim he couldn't have just shot him]]).
** He did the same in the Tenkaichi Budokai against Krillin and then Tien. Against Krillin he used it as part of a combo where he knocked Krillin a good horizontal distance, jumped into the air, then propelled himself forward and into the ground into his opponent. When he used it on Tien both are free-falling, and the first to touch the ground will lose. Goku fires the Kamehameha twice in succession: One to thrust himself at Tien, knocking him down so he couldn't fly and one to gain some more height through recoil to ensure Tien will hit the ground first ([[DiabolusExMachina Goku ends up losing anyway, because he hits a car before Tien gets to the ground]]).
** This trick is used even earlier by Master Roshi to push himself back into the ring, a trick Goku imitates in the very same fight.

crowd. Goku considers using the same trick in his fight against Roshi, but decides to spin his tail around like a helicopter instead and use the energy for a later time.[[note]]Which possibly is the inspiration for Tails' flight in ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2''![[/note]]
** Goku would use the trick in similar ways at the 22nd
Tenkaichi Budokai against Krillin and then Tien. Against Krillin he used it as part of a combo where he knocked Krillin a good horizontal distance, jumped jumps into the air, then propelled propells himself forward and into at his opponent at incredible speed. He then delivers a ''colossal'' right hook that sends Krillin flying across the ground arena, followed up by a flying knee into his opponent. stomach to prevent a ring out. ** This trick is used even earlier After King Piccolo breaks both of Goku's legs and his left arm to prevent him from being able to fight. Goku works around it by Master Roshi to push himself back firing a Kamehameha into the ring, a trick Goku imitates ground to boost him into the air, [[RammingAlwaysWorks allowing him to ram]] [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice into him with his one good fist]]. [[HilariousInHindsight Amusingly]], his son Gohan would perform an actual one-handed Kamehameha against Cell!
** The last use of this technique is
in the very same finals of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai where Goku uses his ''feet'' to launch himself into the air to Piccolo Jr., leaving his hands free to attack his opponent.[[note]][[GeniusBruiser Cleverly]], this also helps conceal the fact that Goku has learnt Bukujitsu, or flight, and he doesn't reveal this card until the ''last'' possible moment to win the fight.[[/note]]

* IronMan is something of an inversion of this. The purpose of the propulsors ''is'' to boost him, but he quickly realized that he can use the opposing force to blast his enemies.

* This is basically how the proposed [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_fountain space fountain]] works. A variant on the SpaceElevator, space fountains stay aloft not by tensile strength in a cable (as in regular space elevators), but by constantly shooting pellets down towards Earth (while replacement pellets are constantly shot back up). While this design lets it stay in orbit in far lower altitudes than a normal space elevator, it needs a constant, extremely high supply of energy to power the shots, or else it'll fall.

* Ruby and Yang's combat styles in ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'' involve using the recoil of their sniper rifle/scythe and gauntlet/shotgun [[SwissArmyWeapon Swiss Army Weapons,]] respectively, with deadly efficiency. Primarily, they use this to blow themselves across the battlefield; Ruby also does this to pull her weapon right through her enemies.

* In ''Film/TheATeam'', this is done with a tank's main gun. The tank was dropped out of a plane, but it lost two of its three chutes. The recoil was used to aim the tank towards a lake and then to soften the landing.
