* In [[http://community.livejournal.com/omonatheydidnt/ Korean Entertainment fandom]], this is standard protocol, especially in {{slash|Fic}} circles. And because there are only so many names in Korea, to the point where people can confuse couples with actual people, it extends to nicknames. For example, in the [[http://community.livejournal.com/sjloveaday/ Super]] [[http://community.livejournal.com/miracle______/ Junior]] fandom, the pairing of Heechul/Donghae is known almost universally as Cinhae, as one of Heechul's nicknames is Cinderella. In the [=SHINee=] fandom, the [[http://community.livejournal.com/jongyu/ Jonghyun/Onyu]] pairing (usually known as Jongyu or Onhyun) has its own nickname of ''Blingdubu'', stemming from each of the member's nicknames: Jonghyun is Bling Bling; Onyu is known as Dubu or Sundubu (Korean for tofu). And over in the 2PM fandom, the [[http://community.livejournal.com/cocoich/ Taekhun pairing (Taecyeon/Nichkhun)]] is also known as ''Cocoich'' among fans, due to [[http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr9/otachie/gif/2d12384c.gif Taec's affectionate nickname of 100% Cocoa]].
** In the [[Music/DongBangShinKi DBSK/TVQX]] fandom, sometimes the portmanteau itself has more than one variation; i.e. Jaejoong/Yunho is know both as Jaeho and Yunjae to its shippers, who usually prefer one usage over the other.
*** Music/GirlsGeneration has "[=TaeNy=]" (Taeyeon/Tiffany), "[=YulSic=]" (Yuri/Jessica), "[=SooNa=]" (Sooyoung/Yoona), "[=HyoSun=]" (Sunny/Hyoyeon) and "[=YoonHyun=]" (Yoona/Seohyun).
*** The Music/{{BTS}} fandom also has quite a few of these, with some of the most popular being "[=YoonMin=]" (Suga/Jimin) and "[=VKook=]" (Jungkook/V).
* Music/MyChemicalRomance has Frerard (Frank Iero/Gerard Way).

* Betty and Archie from ''ComicBook/ArchieComics'' are called "Bettchie" in-series in [[ComicBook/ArchieComics2015 the reboot]].
* Franchise/{{Batman}} family:
** The popular couple of [[Comicbook/{{Nightwing}} Dick Grayson]] and [[Comicbook/{{Batgirl2011}} Barbara Gordon]] is often elegantly referred to as "Dickbabs".
** For Dick and Comicbook/{{Starfire}}, the name "Dickkory" is most commonly used among, though some mockingly call it "Dickfire". Also called Robstar, Dickstar, Nightstar, Nightfire, Starwing, and multiple variations.
** [=BatCat=] is Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle.
** Batfamily ship names in general snap together fairly easily. Timsteph (Tim Drake/Stephanie Brown), Stephcass (Stephanie/Cassandra Cain), Timkon (Tim/Connor Kent, Harpercass (Harper Row/Cassandra), etc.
** And for those who are into FoeYayShipping: [[Franchise/{{Batman}} Bat]][[ComicBook/{{TheJoker}} Jokes]].
* Fan-favorite '80s C-list superheroes ComicBook/BoosterGold and ComicBook/BlueBeetle: Boostle.
** And now, Beevil (ComicBook/BlueBeetle[=/=]Red Devil).
* ''ComicBook/{{Deadpool}}'' fans have nicknamed the Deadpool Skrulls, Skrullpools. For actual Deadpool shipping, how about Deadcable? Or Deable or Cadpool? Deadpool seems to be a fan of [[http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bdQdS-kzyI4/TU8f9-EcWhI/AAAAAAAACks/j3tDL1PlvQw/s1600/Deadpool+%2526+Cable+Pouches.jpg Cablepool]], Though in a slightly different context...
* In ''ComicBook/DoctorWhoTitan'', an in-universe occurs in a First Doctor short strip where we discover that ShipperOnDeck Susan secretly thinks of Ian and Barbara as "Barbarian". Ian doesn't get it and thinks that she's insulting humans as backwards.
* For ComicBook/BirdsOfPrey fans there is Zindanelli (Zinda/Helena), Gordonelli (Babs/Helena), then there is Dinahbabs (Dinah/Babs)
* Comicbook/{{Empowered}} dreams up quite a few of these in-universe when she learns one of her teammates is gay.
* ComicBook/GreenArrow and ComicBook/BlackCanary: Dinahollie.
* Given the ComicBook/GreenLantern and ComicBook/TheFlash tandem, there's Hal Jordan and Barry Allen, also known as Halbarry (No, not that Creator/HalleBerry).
* ''Franchise/JusticeLeagueOfAmerica'' has a few for the League members. There's "[=SuperBat=]" for ComicBook/{{Batman}}[=/=]ComicBook/{{Superman}}, "[=WonderBat=]" for Batman[=/=]ComicBook/WonderWoman, and "[=BatLantern=]" for Batman/Hal Jordan.
* ''ComicBook/IronMan'' has Pepperony for Pepper Potts and Tony Stark (although this is mostly used in [[Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse MCU film]] fandom, not comics fandom) and Irony for Tony Stark/Sentient Armor.
* ''ComicBook/JemAndTheHologramsIDW'' fans refer to Stormer and her girlfriend Kimber as "Stimber". This was given a FandomNod in-series as they're referred to it once.
* Ever since Thor and Storm started dating in ''ComicBook/MarvelAdventures Avengers'', the term "Thororo" has been created.
* ''ComicBook/{{Runaways}}'' fans don't use these too much - Xavin / Karolina might sometimes be abbreviated to "Xavolina", but it's rare. Since the advent of [[Series/Runaways2017 the Hulu show]], however, some Nico Minoru / Karolina Dean fans have been pushing for "Nicolina" or "Deanoru".
* ''ComicBook/SpiderMan'':
** If you happen to like Spider-Man's first love Gwen Stacy, you are stuck with "Gweter" or "Pwen" (although there ''are'' the slightly better-sounding alternatives of "Peten" and "Petwen"). "[[IdiosyncraticShipNaming Doomshipping]]" covers all the bases.
** Alternatively, if you prefer Spidey to be with ComicBook/MaryJaneWatson then "Petermj" is the name of your ship.
** Or, if you're reading Sins Past, Normwen Stacborn.
** If you like Spidey's real first love, Betty Brant, you'd get Petty or Beter Parant (Brarker is just too uncomfortable).
** "Spideypool" is the relatively recent pairing of Spider-Man and ComicBook/{{Deadpool}}.
* Non-romantic version: Francophone ''Franchise/{{Tintin}}'' fans collectively refer to Dupond & Dupont (Thompson and Thomson) as "les Dupondt", which is also used by Tintin and Haddock in the original comics.
* ''ComicBook/XMen'' fans seem to like this a lot, but unfortunately no matter what you ship in what series/universe, you usually come out rather badly. Jott, Scemma, Jogan, Lemma, Rogan, Robby, Kyro, Ryro, Kurtty, Lancitty, Tonda, Jonda, Xietro, [=AleX23=], Bobbity, Bobmara, Bobbilee (or Jubby), Kurahne, Kurmanda, and a favorite, Wandurt. Apparently the character's names were not chosen to be Portmanteau Couple Name friendly.
** "Pionda" (Pietro/Wanda) is not only clunky, the concept comes out badly [[{{Twincest}} no matter how you think of it]]. A preferable term would be "Panda", in case you wanted the {{Squick}} to be cute (either way, the couple is more or less canon in ComicBook/UltimateMarvel).
** Rogneto is about the only portmanteau that works for the X-Men that is used.
** There seems to be a candy theme when it comes to shipping Storm: [=RoLo=] for Ororo/Logan, [=OreO=] (capitalization variable) for Ororo/Remy.
** [[ComicBook/XFactor Ricstar]] seems to be the happy exception to the rule. It even has Creator/PeterDavid's blessing, who stated that it sounded much better than [=RicShat=]. It does.
** Kuroro, for Nightcrawler/Storm, is another of the exceptions.
** There has been...[[ShipToShipCombat difficulty]] on comic message boards between fans of Kiotr (Kitty Pryde/Piotr Rasputin) and Kete (Kitty/Pete Wisdom)
** And now thanks to ''ComicBook/AllNewXMen'' there's [=StarKat=] for Kitty/[[ComicBook/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy Peter Quill]]. Kitty sure loves her "Peters..."
** Helix has been a term that has been thrown around to describe Hellion/X-23. Another that's come up for X-23 is [=Cyx-23=], for the shiptease between Laura and Teen!Scott. Bonus points for suggestive pronunciation. A third one for her is Larren for Laura and teen!Warren.
** Cherik seems to be the most popular name for [[FriendlyEnemy Professor X/Magneto]], although this is mainly seen among fans of the live-action films.
* From ''ComicBook/YoungAvengers'', we have Amerikate for ComicBook/AmericaChavez / ComicBook/KateBishop, as well as Wickling for ComicBook/{{Wiccan}} / ComicBook/{{Hulkling}}.

He then comments that's a stupid name for a couple, and the entire idea of putting the characters' names together to get the couple name is deeply stupid in and of itself. "Smoaking Arrow" would be much cooler.

* Obscure and not really shipping, but there's a thing in Chinese poetry when pairs of great poets who share similarities but also have great differences, they'll be talked about together fairly frequently, almost as a unit. In at least two cases, they'll be given a portmanteau name. E.g., Du Fu and Li Bai, (a.k.a. Tu Fu and Li Po) are sometimes talked about as "the great Li-Du," while Li Shangyin and Du Mu are "the little Li-Du."
* The Artemis/Holly ship in ''Literature/ArtemisFowl'' gets the rather catchy names of "Artolly" and "Hartemis" (or, less popular, "Howl").
* ''Literature/TheCampHalfBloodSeries'' has quite a lot. Just to name a few:
** From the original ''Literature/PercyJacksonAndTheOlympians'' series: Percabeth (Percy/Annabeth), Perachel (Percy/Rachel), Lukercy/Percuke/Puke (Percy/Luke), Thuke/Thaluke/Lukalia (Thalia/Luke), Lukabeth (Luke/Annabeth), Annico (Annabeth/Nico), Annalia/Thalabeth (Annabeth/Thalia), Salleidon (Sally/Poseidon), Ruke/Racheluke (Rachel/Luke), Rico (Rachel/Nico), Percianca (Percy/Bianca), Lukianca (Luke/Bianca), Perlia/Percalia/Thalcy (Percy/Thalia)
** From ''Literature/TheHeroesOfOlympus'' series: Liper (Leo/Piper), Jasper (Jason/Piper), Jeyna (Jason/Reyna), Leyna (Leo/Reyna), Frazel (Frank/Hazel), Lazel (Leo/Hazel), Jasico (Jason/Nico), Caleo (Leo/Calypso), Solangelo (Will/Nico, but taken from their last names Solace and di Angelo)
* ''Literature/ChroniclesOfNarnia'' has Suspian (Susan/Caspian), Pevencest for the [[IncestYayShipping incest couples]] or particular names like Edcy, Ludmund or Edlu (for Edmund/Lucy), Petesu (for Peter/Susan) and Petmund (for Peter/Edmund). There is also Lucian (Lucy/Caspian), Casmund (Caspian/Edmund) and [[IdiosyncraticShipNaming Casper]] (Caspian/Peter).
* In ''Literature/EarthTheBook'', Antony and Cleopatra are claimed to have been referred to as "Antopatra" by Egyptian tabloids.
* ''Literature/EarthsChildren'': Ayla named her daughter Jonayla - a portmanteau of hers and Jondalar's names.
* ''Literature/ErHaHeTaTeBaiMaoShiZun'' has Ranwan for Mo Ran/Chu Wanning.
* ''Literature/FoxDemonCultivationManual'' has "Rongsong" for Rong Bai/Song Ci.
* ''Literature/TheGreatGatsby'': The Nick/Gatsby pairing is nicknamed "Natsby" by the fandom.
* ''Literature/GoodOmens'': While "[[IdiosyncraticShipNaming Ineffable Husbands]]" is the most widely accepted ship name for Aziraphale/Crowley, newer fans who are more used to portmanteau ship naming than idiosyncratic ones use "[=AzCrow=]" for them too.
* Portmanteau names are frequently cobbled together for ''Literature/HarryPotter'' ships, of which there are dozens, if not hundreds.
** The most famous ''Harry Potter'' Portmanteau ships are Dramione (Draco/Hermione), Romione (Ron/Hermione), Snamione (Snape/Hermione, also known as SSHG) and Snarry (Snape/Harry). Other common Portmanteau names are Harmony (Harry/Hermione - adherents of the ship are known as Harmonians, although this term fell out of favor later on with fans who didn't want to be associated with the more militant Harmonians), Drarry (Draco/Harry), Dranny (Draco/Ginny), Snupin (Snape/Lupin), Snack (Snape/Black), and Honks (Harry/Tonks). There's also the term "Herons" for Hermione/Ron shippers, although it's rarely used by said shippers as it was originally coined as an insult by Harry/Hermione shippers.
** The coolest portmanteau name out there is probably Bellamort (Bellatrix/Voldemort), which literally means "beautiful death".
** Some humorous-sounding portmanteau names would be Snufflepuff (what you get when you combine Sirius Black (aka Snuffles) and Cedric Diggory (who is a Hufflepuff)), Blamione (Blaise Zabini/Hermione Granger), and Quirrelmort (Quirrel/Voldemort). Quirrelmort as a name makes good sense but is usually (and justifiably) reserved for [[spoiler:the form Voldemort actually takes at the end of the first book and film]].
** Then there's Snucius (Snape/Lucius). Actually, trying to get Snape into any portmanteau name comes out badly. The worst is probably Snily (Snape/Lily)... though at least it's not as bad as 'Snevans' and some opt for the somewhat nicer-sounding Lileverus.
** Apart from Dramione, Drarry and a few other exceptions, most of the HP fandom use initials to denote ships as some pairings sound too awkward when combined. Examples would be HG, RHR, HHR, DG, RL, HPTR, etc... The usage of this method works better at minimizing discrimination in the epic ShipToShipCombat always present in the fandom.
** Harry/Hermione/Luna is sometimes referred to as Lunar Harmony, combining this with IdiosyncraticShipNaming
** And of course, we have Drapple: Draco and his film counterpart's iconic [[CargoShip green apple]].
* ''Literature/TheHungerGames'':
** Averted with Peeta/Katniss for a while, as it was far too difficult to come up with a portmanteau ship name for their first names that didn't sound incredibly awkward ([=KatPee=] sounds like "cat pee", [=KatPeet=] like "cat feet", and Peeniss is just plain NSFW). Eventually, their fans combined Katniss's "The Girl Who Was On Fire" moniker with Peeta's background as a baker's son to get "Toast". Or they combined their last names instead (Everdeen and Mallark) to get "Everlark".
** Other pairings that fare better with portmanteaus are Ganiss or Everthorne (Galen/Katniss), Clato (Clove/Cato), and Hayffie (Haymitch/Effie).
* ''The Literature/InheritanceCycle'' fandom has developed a ridiculous number of these, involving almost every possible combination of characters.
** Some of the more popular ones include: Murtada (Murtagh/Nasuada), Erya (Eragon/Arya), Eraphira (Eragon/Saphira), Murtrina (Murtagh/Katrina), Saphikan or Saphruikan (Saphira/Shruikan), Thophira (Thorn/Saphira), Galbazandi (Galbatorix/Islanzadi)
* In-universe example in ''Literature/JakeAndTheDynamo'': After Jake "Barfing Boy" Blatowski is seen with Magical Girl Pretty Dynamo, the newspapers begins speculating whether "Dynabarf" is an official couple.
* ''Literature/LesMiserables'' fandom is not far behind in naming their ships such as Valvert (Valjean/[[InspectorJavert Javert]]) and e/R (Enjolras/Grantaire) among others.
* ''Literature/{{Leviathan}}'': The canonical pairing of Alek/Deryn is amusingly called [[Series/DoctorWho Dalek]]. There is also Varlow, for [[MindGameShip Count Volger/Dr Barlow]].
* ''Literature/MaximumRide'': Fax/Mang (Fang and Max), Niggy (Nudge and Iggy), Eggy (Ella and Iggy), and [[HoYay Figgy (Fang and Iggy)]].
* ''Literature/MoDaoZuShi'' has "Wangxian" (Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian). Among non-official couples there's "Xiyao" (Lan Xichen/Jin Guangyao), "Nielan" (Nie Mingjue/Lan Xichen) and "Xicheng" (Lan Xichen/Jiang Cheng).
* ''Literature/TheMortalInstruments'' gives us quite a few. Most popular is Malec (Magnus/Alec), as well as Clace (Clary/Jace) and Sizzy (Simon/Izzy).
* ''Literature/QiangJinJiu'' gives us "Cezhou" for Shen Zechuan/Xiao Chiye. It's derived from their courtesy names, Shen Lanzhou and Xiao Ce'an.
* ''Literature/RenZhaFanPaiZiJiuXiTong'' has "[=BingQiu=]" for Luo Binghe/Shen Qingqiu and "[=MoShang=]" for Mobei-Jun and Shang Qinghua. Non-official couples include "[=BingJiu=]" (Original Luo Binghe/Original Shen Qingqiu [=AKA=] Shen Jiu), "[=LiuShen=]" (Liu Qingge/Shen Qingqiu) and "[=QiJiu=]" (Yue Qingyuan [=AKA=] Yue Qi/Original Shen Qingqiu).
* ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'':
** Sandor + Sansa = San-San, which is, admittedly, rather cute. And very amusing, as Sandor is about as far from cute as one can get, possibly with the exception of Tyrion. And talking about him, the Tyrion/Sansa ship is sometimes called [=TySan=] or Sanrion.
** Other names include Jonerys ([[ShipsThatPassInTheNight Jon/Daenerys]]), Gendrya (Gendry/Arya), [[CrackShip Robbcella]] (Robb/Myrcella), [[ToyShip Edreen]] ([[HotBlooded Edric Storm]]/[[IllGirl Shireen Baratheon]]), and [=JoffSan=] for Joffrey/Sansa, Braime (Brienne/Jaime) among others.
** Lannicest is also sometimes used by fans to refer to incestuous relationships between the members of House Lannisters, although by this point the name almost exclusively refers to the canon romantic relationship between [[BrotherSisterIncest Jaime and Cersei]].
** There is also Throbb (Theon/Robb) which is one the most fortunate and meaningful portmanteau names (not only in the ASOIAF fandom).
** Speaking of Theon, don't forget Thramsay for Ramsay and Theon.
* ''Literature/StrangerThanFanfiction'' has an InUniverse example in shippers of Dr. Bumfuzzle with Dr. Peach tree. The ship is known as "Peachfuzzle".
* ''Literature/TianGuanCiFu'' gives us "[=HuaLian=]" (Hua Cheng/Xie Lian). Non-official couples include "[=FengQing=]" (Feng Xin/Mu Qing), "[=QuanYin=]" (Quan Yizhen/Yin Yu), and "[=HuaXuan=]" (Hua Cheng/He Xuan). "[=XuanXuan=]" is sometimes seen for Shi Qingxuan/He Xuan, but not nearly as often as "[[IdiosyncraticShipNaming Beefleaf]]".
* ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'':
** For the Edward/Bella/Jacob love triangle, there's Bedward (Bella/Edward), Blackswan (Bella/Jacob), and [[PairTheSuitors Jedward]] (Jacob/Edward, despite the fact that it's [[Series/TheXFactor already taken]]).
** Other names are Blackwater (Jacob/Leah), Callwater (Embry/Leah), [[HoYay Bellice]] (Bella/Alice), Jalice (Jasper/Alice), Jaspella (Jasper/Bella, [[HoYay Rosebella]] (Bella/Rosalie) [[http://kaiwynn.livejournal.com/39249.html?thread=569425 ...and many, many more.]]
* ''Literature/VampireAcademy'' and ''Literature/{{Bloodlines}}'' have a few of these, most notably Romitri (Rose/Dimitri), Dragozera (Lissa/Christian), Rissa (Rose/Lissa), Adrose (Rose/Adrian)and Sydrian (Sydney/Adrian). Jeddie (Jill/Eddie) has been gaining popularity lately, due to the events of The Fiery Heart and Silver Shadows.
* ''Literature/TheVampireChronicles'' has "Loustat" for the very popular Louis/Lestat ship.
* ''Literature/WarriorCats'' fans who ship Mothwing and Leafpool usually refer to the ship as "Mothpool".
* For ''Literature/{{Wicked}}'', the ship names are the same as they are for the musical (Fiyeraba, Gelphie, Flinda, Foq, Gloq, Bessa, etc.), but as there are characters not included in the musical, naturally there are more. Most notably, Thrope for Tibbett/Crope and Elpharic for Elphaba/Avaric.

*** There's also "[=HHHBK=]" which is formed by smushing together HHH's initials with those of Shawn's RedBaron "The Heartbreak Kid". Those who ship [[FoeYayShipping Shawn Michaels/Bret Hart]] gave them a couple of similar portmanteau couple names; some use "[=HHBK=]" (this time standing for Hitman/Heartbreak Kid), while others use "[=BHBK=]" (playing on the fact that "Hart" and "Heart" sound the same).
** "Huntista" (Wrestling/TripleH[=/=]Wrestling/{{Batista}})
** "Reytista" (Wrestling/ReyMysterioJr[=/=]Wrestling/Batista)
** "Codiase", or "Codiasi" as it's sometimes spelled, (Wrestling/CodyRhodes[=/=]Wrestling/TedDiBiaseJr) is becoming increasingly more common.
** "Junk" ([[FoeYayShipping Jeff Hardy/CM Punk]])
** "Slabriel" (Wrestling/HeathSlater[=/=]Wrestling/JustinGabriel)
** "Santikoz," "Vladtino", or "Koztino" (Wrestling/SantinoMarella[=/=]Wrestling/VladimirKozlov)
** "Punkicho" ([[FoeYayShipping CM Punk/Chris Jericho]])
** "Punkena" (Wrestling/CMPunk[=/=]John Cena)
* There is an official one of these for one of WWE's on-air couples; the pairing of Santino Marella and Wrestling/BethPhoenix (aka the Glamazon) is referred to by WWE itself as Glamarella.
** A portmanteau (Glamarella) based on a portmanteau! (Glamazon=glamourous + amazon).
* A less common name for the somewhat-canon couple (at least, in the latter's mind) of Wrestling/TrishStratus and Wrestling/MickieJames is "Trikie".
* Another canon one, tag team of Chris Jericho and Wrestling/BigShow, "Jerishow". They even have mixed music.
** Big Show later paired with Wrestling/TheMiz as [=ShoMiz=].
** Then Jericho and Miz teamed up again, and Jerimiz and Jiz became popular couple names. The team was too short lived to get a name.
* Another tag team example comes in the former team of Randy Orton (RKO), and Wrestling/{{Edge}} (Rated R Superstar), with Rated-RKO.
* Layla and Michelle [=McCool=] have formed the pairing of Wrestling/LayCool.
* The pairing of Wrestling/CMPunk and Wrestling/AJLee is often known as [=AJPunk=] or Punklee.
** Wrestling/AJLee and Wrestling/DolphZiggler ended up being Zigglee.
* The pairing of Wrestling/DeanAmbrose[=/=]Wrestling/SethRollins of Wrestling/TheShield is well established as Ambrollins. Pairing Ambrose with their other teammate, Wrestling/RomanReigns, gets us Ambreigns (which gets name-dropped in a hilarious fashion by Wrestling/TheNewDay on one of their promos), and pairing Rollins and Reigns together is Rolleigns. When shipped as a threesome, the team is known as Ambrolleigns.
* Wrestling/{{Hallowicked}} was [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00HgN6fOMhs&t=2s teamed]] with Australian female wrestler Shazza [=McKenzie=] in a loss to [[Wrestling/{{Kimber Lee}} Princess Kimberlee]] and The Whisper at ''Wrestling/{{CHIKARA}} La Loteria Letal 2018'', October 27, 2018. The crowd chanted "[=Shazmaldun=]" as a possible name for their team, combining Shazza's first name with Nazmaldun, the mysterious entity Hallowicked worships.
** Speaking of Kim, her team with [[Wrestling/RubyRiott Heidi Lovelace]] was called Team [=LoveLee=] in Beyond Wrestling.
** CHIKARA also gave us the trio of Hallowicked, Wrestling/{{Frightmare}} and [[Wrestling/MikeQuackenbush "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush]], which was called Team [=Frightning=].
* ''Website/DivaDirt'' dubbed Wrestling/GailKim and {{Wrestling/Melina}}, who teamed together a lot in 2009-2010 'Gail-Lina'.
* Wrestling/AliciaFox and Wrestling/{{Aksana}}, an alliance in 2013-2014 were 'Foxsana'.

[[folder:Puppet Shows]]
* In his CharacterBlog Twitter feed, Rizzo the Rat from ''Franchise/TheMuppets'' [[https://twitter.com/Rizzo/status/779768617680396288 considers possible couple names]] for himself and Yolanda (Rizzonda, [=YoRizzo=], Rilozzando), despite the fact they're not actually a couple.

* Canadian figure skaters Roman Sadovsky and Nam Nguyen, whose bromance was even discussed on [[https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6x1c8y Canadian television,]] [[https://www.instagram.com/p/BUDntC0j7ir/ have coined]] "[[https://www.instagram.com/p/BUDmweFhL0R/ [=RoNam=]]]" as their couple/ship name.
* Speaking of bromances, the pairing of tennis stars UsefulNotes/RogerFederer and UsefulNotes/RafaelNadal is known as "Fedal", which is also used in a non-shipping context by tennis pundits to refer to their matches and FriendlyRivalry. Add UsefulNotes/NovakDjokovic -- or "Nole", as many fans call him -- into the mix, and you also get "Fedole", "Rafole", and "Fedalovic". In addition, when Andy Murray was at the top of the game alongside these three, "Novandy" (or "Murrovic"), "Rafandy", and "Murderer" were popular too.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Theater]]
* ''Theatre/{{Les Miserables}}:'' Fans of [[FoeYayShipping the pairing Valjean/Javert]] refer to it as Valvert. Likewise, those who ship Enjolras and Grantaire call it Enjoltaire.
* ''Theatre/{{Wicked}}'':
** Fans of the Glinda/Elphaba pairing use "Gelphie". Fiyero/Elphaba is "Fiyeraba" or "Elphieyero" or "Faeyero". There's also "Bessa" for Boq/Nessarose and "Gloq" for Glinda/Boq. These names also apply [[Literature/{{Wicked}} to the books]].
** Although much less popular, there's also Fiyeressa for Fiyero/Nessarosa, Foq for Fiyero/Boq, and Flinda for Fiyero/Glinda. ''Theatre/{{Wicked}}'' fans can and will ship pretty much any pairing.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Toys]]
* Some ''Franchise/{{Barbie}}'' fans call Barbie and Ken "Karbie."
* The ''Toys/EverAfterHigh'' fandom uses these. Daring/Apple is "Dapple", Daring/Lizzie is "Dizzie", Dexter/Raven is "Dexven" (or "Rexter"), Raven/Apple is "Rapple", Dexter/Cupid is "Dexpid", Hunter/Ashlynn is "Huntlynn", etc. At least "Rapple" has been used by official social media, albeit platonically. This trope created an issue when Apple and ''Darling'' received a popularity boost. It's sometimes called "Dapple" but is more commonly dubbed "Appling" or "Dappling".
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Webcomics]]
* Referenced in [[http://www.arthurkingoftimeandspace.com/2112.htm this]] ''Webcomic/ArthurKingOfTimeAndSpace'' strip, which coins the Portmanteau OT3 Name "Arthnevot" (Arthur/Guenevere/Lancelot).
* In ''Webcomic/DumbingOfAge'', Walky calls Becky and Dina "Beckasaur".
* ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive'': Various names, such as Juke, were suggested for the Justin/Luke pairing, but Lustin was settled upon [[{{Pun}} for obvious reasons]].
* ''Webcomic/{{Erfworld}}'': Webinar and Dora have been referred to (once) as Webinora by a fan on the ''[[http://www.giantitp.com/comics/erf0001.html Erfworld]]'' [[http://www.giantitp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=47 forums]]. Bonus: Webinar is itself a portmanteau of "web seminar".
* ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'':
** Behold the dawn of [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20080609 Zeethiggs]] ... Ain't they just meant to be?
** The fandom has yet to settle on one single portmanteau name for Agatha and either of her two surviving love interests, although "Agiltha" appears frequently for Agatha/Gil, and both "Targatha" and "Agavek" pop up from time to time for Agatha/Tarvek. Agilvek has shown up for the potential OT3.
** Also, the canon BrainUploading / DemonicPossession results have {{Fan Nickname}}s fitting the trope: Lu'Agatha (Lucrezia in Agatha's body), Von P'Otilia (Otilia in Von Pinn's body), Lunevka (Lucrezia in Anevka's body), O'Kestle ([[GeniusLoci "Der Kestle"]] in Otilia's body).
* When ''Webcomic/GunnerkriggCourt'' started hinting that James Eglamore and Jones were (or still are) a couple, fans of that 'ship began calling them "Janes". This trope is also parodied with the page quote.
* ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'':
** Fans do this often, with the Feferi/Eridan ship being notable for contracting to... [=FefEri=]. Meerkat, for Karkat/Meenah, and Rosemary, for Rose/Kanaya (using Kanaya's last name, Maryam), both work out to actual words. Johnkat for John/Karkat, Karezi for Karkat/Terezi, and Daverezi for Terezi/Dave are all also somewhat commonly used.
** There have also been sightings of "Karkade", for Karkat/Jade, which is coincidentally the Egyptian word for a type of herbal tea. However, "Jadekat" is a bit more common.
** On the FusionDance side, we have the B2 [[SpiritAdvisor sprites]] -- Tavrisprite, Erisolsprite, Fefetasprite, Arquiusprite -- as well as Jack Noir's {{ring|OfPower}}-induced transformations: Jackspers Noirlecrow (Jack Noir + Jaspers + Harlequin + Rambunctious Crow) and Bec Noir (Becquerel + Jack Noir, less known as Jacquerel).
* Fans of ''Webcomic/HoneydewSyndrome'' have used [=CharJay=] for Charles/Jay and [=CharMay=] for Charles/Metis.
* ''Webcomic/{{Housepets}}'' has the fans' {{OTP}} Grape and Peanut, or [=GrapeNut=]. Yes, even their couple name has a food theme.
* ''Webcomic/{{Nimona}}'' has "Goldenheart" for Goldenloin/Blackheart, and "Blitzheart" for Blitzmeyer/Blackheart.
* Not really used, but the ''Webcomic/TheOrderOfTheStick'' fandom gave one for Xykon/Tsukiko: Xytsuki.
* ''Webcomic/PennyAndAggie'':
** Forum members are fond of creating, and debating, portmanteau couple names. The most commonly-used ones are "Saraphne" for OfficialCouple Sara/Daphne, and "Agenny" for Aggie/Penny. Others include "Standi" (OfficialCouple Stan/Brandi), "Jacky-Ann" or "Katack" (OfficialCouple Jack/Katy-Ann), and "Stenny" (for the [[FoeYayShipping enemy ship Stan/Penny]]).
** Two portmanteau names have appeared in the comic itself: "Standi," which Cyndi uses after that couple's breakup (and well after its coinage in the fandom); and "Lichelle," with which Lisa teases Michelle after the latter says that girl-on-girl sex grosses her out.
* ''{{Webcomic/PvP}}'' did a little LampshadeHanging in the earlier part of the strip when Brent and Jade first got together. Cole told Francis that "That's common when two people you know start dating. Brent and Jade as you knew them are gone now. There is only... [=BrentJade=]!"
* ''Webcomic/QuestionableContent'':
** The forums are sporadically abuzz with shippers for "Fayten" (Faye + Marten) or "Svaye" (Sven + Faye), and members smacking down the use of portmanteau names. However, "[=HanTai=]" for the gleefully pervy lesbian Tai and the OCD, extremely straight, easily squicked Hannelore (who Tai has an obvious crush on) is damn near universal [[{{Hentai}} for obvious reasons]], even for people who find the idea ridiculous. Jeph dismisses it as stupid, and has (due to the Hantai meme), banned Shipmanteaus from the forums. Not that this has stopped anybody, of course.
** The CrackShip Marigold/Pintsize acquired the name... wait for it... Pint-o-Gold.
** [[DiscussedTrope Discussed]] by the Thanksgiving Turkeys [[http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2586 here]], as they suggest "[=MariDale=]" or "Daligold" for Dale + Marigold, and give the other current {{Official Couple}}s "Fangus" (Faye + Angus), "Tora" (Tai + Dora) and "Willelope" (Will + Penelope). Then "[=Bloodsize=]" for Pintsize and Blood Lord...
--->'''First Turkey:''' Who the hell is "Blood Lord?"\\
'''Second Turkey:''' [[OriginalCharacter YOU TOLD ME YOU READ MY FANFIC]]
** "Clairten" for Claire/Marten and "Faybles" for Faye/Bubbles.
* By the second ''Webcomic/SkinHorse'' strip to show Dr Dennis "Tip" Willkins meeting ''Webcomic/{{Narbonic}}'''s Artie (RT-5478), the ship had been named [=RTip=]-5478.
* Zorg, Gwyff, Riflee and such from ''Webcomic/SluggyFreelance''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
* Discussed in [[http://the-toast.net/2015/09/30/a-linguist-explains-the-grammar-of-shipping/ this article]] by linguist Gretchen [=McCulloch=], which breaks down some of the linguistic principles behind what makes a good ship name. She isolates five major factors:
-->1) Overlap (ie. shared letters or sounds in the characters' names)
-->2) Stress Match (ie. stressing the same syllables in the portmanteau as in the original names)
-->3) Onset Conversation (ie. whoever has the most consonants in a row at the beginning of their name goes first in the portmanteau)
-->4) Orthographic Transparency (ie. the pronunciation is easily deducible from spelling/resembles how the characters' names are spelt)
-->5) Lexical Neighbourhood Evaluation (ie. possible similarities to existing words, either positive or negative)
* {{Discussed}} in Creator/AllisonPregler's [[http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/teamt/ol/specials/44302-lupa-qaa Q&A video]], when one fan asks if she, as a ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'' fan, ships "Bangel" or "Spuffy." She shoots down both options and wonders if anyone ships Buffy with [[RomanticFalseLead Scott]], suggesting that the pairing could be called "[[UnfortunateNames Butt]]."
* ''Podcast/AnswerMeThis'': Helen and Martin's solution to what to do with their names once they are married.
* ''Literature/ChakonaSpace'': A canon example in the form of Charles and Katherine Turner, the creators of Chakats.
** Strange example: '''Quick'''wind and Short'''dash''' have a cub named Quickdash. One winds up wondering if they plan on having a second cub.
* ''WebVideo/CriticalRole'' uses this for a few ships. OfficialCouple [[LauncherOfAThousandShips Vax'ildan]] and Keyleth go by Vaxleth: Vax and Gilmore are Vaxmore, and Vax and Percy go by Perc'ildan. Kima and Allura are Kimallura. There's also Perc'ahlia for Percy and Vex'ahlia, although they also get the fun [[IdiosyncraticShipNaming ship label]] Hunter's Hex.
* Tony the Clock and Sketchbook from the ''WebVideo/DontHugMeImScared'' series often get shipped together under the name [=PadLock=] ([=SketchPAD=] and cLOCK).
* ''WebVideo/EmmaApproved'' has Emex from [[http://instagram.com/p/idES6rBCT2/ Brent Bailey's Instragram]] and Knighthouse from a Website/YouTube comment for the Emma/Alex pairing.
* ''WebVideo/EmmaBlackery'' had one in the form of #Demma - herself and LetsPlay/NerdCubed. However, the pairing was sunk when Emma confirmed her relationship with another man.
* ''WebSite/GaiaOnline'' has [[AntiVillain The Sentinel]] and [[CloudCuckoolander The Overseer]], who some people ship as "Sentiseer".
* In season four of ''WebVideo/TheGuild'', Zaboo has this priceless line:
-->'''Zaboo''': I'm Team Codex/[[spoiler:[[DatingCatwoman Fawkes]]]]. Team [[spoiler:Cawkes]]!
* ''WebVideo/JakeAndAmir'': Jake/Amir is Jamir or Blumenwitz, which is German for "flower joke".
* ''WebVideo/LastLife'' has lead witches Sloane and Taylor come together as "Slaylor".
* ''WebVideo/TheLizzieBennetDiaries'' has an InUniverse example of "Jing" for Jane/Bing, coined by Lydia in one episode. The fandom also uses "Dizzie" for Darcy/Lizzie, "Lyckham" for Lydia/George Wickham, and "Figi" for Fitz/Gigi.
* In WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic, Hyper Fangirl and Devil Boner is Hyper Boner, which gets a lot of fun usage as a DoubleEntendre. There's quite a lot of of dirty wordplay with the shipping name during their [[spoiler:wedding]].
-->"I'll admit, I didn't think Hyper Boner was a good idea. But after seeing all of the joy displayed, it's clear that Hyper Boner's going to last a ''long'' time."
-->"If ever anybody sees you, they'll say, 'You can't keep Hyper Boner down.'"
* Whenever the ''WebVideo/SmoshGames'' crew does a teamup, their team's names are usually based on a combination of their members' names. Some examples are: "Marhinki" (Mari and Sohinki), "Iancorn" (Ian and Lasercorn) and "Jovanthony" (Jovenshire and Anthony). Of course, this is what their respective ships are called, and the crew jokingly encourages it anyway.
* The [[HeterosexualLifePartners broship]] of Liam "Brook" Brooks and Jason Harris from ''Roleplay/SurvivalOfTheFittest'' is generally referred to as "Brason."
** [[SchoolgirlLesbians Sarah Xu and Reiko Ishida]], who are often called "Sareiko" when mentioned together.
* ''Podcast/WelcomeToNightvale'': Most notably: "Cecilos" for the couple Cecil Palmer and Carlos the scientist.
* ''Literature/WhateleyUniverse'' examples: there is ongoing debate about Phase's dating path, since he is dating Vanessa (Vox) now but close friends with Jadis (She-Beast). This leads to the Vanayla vs. Jayla discussions. Or is that Aylis? [[spoiler:The Jayla ship was sunk when they went on a date and nothing came of it, at the time]].
** InUniverse, said about Jenny + Harlan in [[http://whateleyacademy.net/index.php/original-timeline/372 The Big Idea]]:
---> Jenny and Harlan sat down at the lunch table across from Adalie and Romy. “Well,” Adalie greeted them snidely, “if it isn’t Whateley’s latest power couple, Jenlan.”
* CrossoverShip example: "[[https://twitter.com/Mumkhar/status/569620230932209664 Emelia]]" ({{LetsPlay/Chuggaaconroy}} x [[Videogame/{{Xenoblade}} Melia]])

* Happens in the Music/HelloProject fandom. Sumomo (Sudou Maasa/Tsugunaga Momoko), Renai (Tanaka Reina/Takahashi Ai), Gakikame (Niigaki Risa/Kamei Eri), Yajiume (Yajima Maimi/Umeda Erika)...
* This technique has wormed its way into news and gossip coverage of real-life couples, with such shining examples as Bennifer (Creator/BenAffleck and Music/JenniferLopez, later Affleck and Creator/JenniferGarner), [=TomKat=] (Creator/TomCruise and Creator/KatieHolmes), and Brangelina (Creator/BradPitt and Creator/AngelinaJolie).
** Creator/BenAffleck later lampshaded this trope [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments in the intro to one of his times hosting]] ''Series/SaturdayNightLive''. Noting the amount of money people have made with Bennifer T-shirts, and irritated that he hasn't gotten any of it, he showed off his own custom T-shirts with possible future relationships: "[[Music/{{Beyonce}} Benyonce]]", "[[Series/TheOprahWinfreyShow Boprah]]", and "[[Creator/MaryKateAndAshleyOlsen Mary-Kate and AshFleck]]". And then, "[[{{Pun}} [=BenGay=]]]", pairing him with either Creator/MarciaGayHarden, [[HoYay or recurring co-star]] Creator/MattDamon.
** Parodying this practice, Creator/StephenColbert of ''Series/TheColbertReport'' has taken to referring to the pairing of William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman as "Filliam H. Muffman".
*** And, just throwing it out there, [[Music/{{Beyonce}} Steyonce]].
*** This was actually a ''Series/{{Jeopardy}}'' question: [[http://www.nofactzone.net/?p=478 they wanted to know what couple comprised Filliam H. Muffman]].
** In the E! recap show ''Series/TheSoup'' makes the parody even more extreme, pulling the "Celebrity Hookup Name Generator" each time they know about a new celebrity couple. The resultant names are often full of double entendres and/or very tongue in cheek.
** Bennifer and Tomkat are [[ShoutOut joked about]] in Case 2 of ''VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorney''. Bennifer is one of Larry's former girlfriends, who led him to Tibet before dumping him. There he met "Katty Tom", who became his next girlfriend... then dumped him to go to Hollywood.

** Another cutesy current one is [[Franchise/SpiderMan Speidi]] for Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag.
** Even hopeless cynics can't help but get a kick out of the Miranda Kerr/Orlando Bloom coupling: Kerrbloom.
* UsefulNotes/{{Bill|Clinton}} and UsefulNotes/{{Hillary|RodhamClinton}} Clinton as "Billary" originated from the 1980 Arkansas gubernatorial elections. It was a disparaging term aimed at Hillary's prominent role in Bill's career; many thought her outspokenness unseemly for a political wife. However, some of the couple's fans have adopted it, particularly in the wake of Hillary's tenure as Secretary of State. \\

* One more, more, ''more'' word: Milaine, standing for Mitch [=McConnell=] and Elaine Chao. It's also known as [=McChao=] (Obviously?).
* Parodied ''again'' by Stephen Colbert -- discussing the fans' perception of his relationship with Creator/JonStewart, he coined the term "Colbewart" (in reality, fans tend to refer to [[HoYay it]] as Jon/Stephen or, rarely, Jonphen).
* "[=CAndy=]" for Creator/ConanOBrien[=/=]Andy Richter. They are well-aware of the coinage, and mention it occasionally on the show. Has existed since back when Andy was still on ''Series/LateNight'' in the '90s.
* Parodied once again in [[http://snltranscripts.jt.org/03/03omono.phtml this SNL monologue by Ben Affleck]].
* Let's not forget shipping between a recent President of the US and his Chief of staff, better known as Rahmbama.
** ''Radio/TheNowShow Book of Records'' suggests "Shellack" for Barack and Michelle.
* Europe's power couple for a while: [[http://www.businessinsider.com/merkel-sarkozy-kissing-2011-12 Merkozy]].
* Used for members of Music/{{NSYNC}}, when {{slash|Fic}}ed with each other: [[Music/JustinTimberlake Timberlake]]/Fatone = Timbertone. There's also [=JoeC=], Choey, etc...
** Most shippers of various bands tend to go in this direction, portmanteaus (smush names) being in use since the Beatles. Some of the most ridiculous ones belong to the various pairings of Music/PanicAtTheDisco: Ryden, Joncer, Brencer, Rycer, etc.
*** Those are not so bad. They're at least able to be pronounced. You'd think that people would try to do that, but nope.
** Although they're only occasionally used, probably for this reason, Music/GreenDay shipping portmanteaus always sound hilarious. Two possibilities are ''Bike'' and ''Trike'' (the third, sadly, is Trillie -- which kind of breaks up the set).
* ''Film/TheChroniclesOfNarnia'' cast has the quite well known [[ShipMates Skangie and Willanna]] (Creator/SkandarKeynes / Creator/GeorgieHenley and Creator/WilliamMoseley / Creator/AnnaPopplewell), which are really popular, since [[BrotherSisterIncest the characters can't really be shipped]] ([[IncestYayShipping even though that doesn't stop a lot of fans]]), as well as Bengie (Georgie Henley / Ben Barnes). Of course, all the actors are shipped between them, but these are the only couples that have portmanteau couple names which are quite used and well-known.
* Speaking of ''Series/TheMightyBoosh'', creators Creator/NoelFielding and Julian Barratt are known pretty universally in Boosh [[RealPersonFic RPF]] slash fandom as Noelian. Given their propensity to kiss, grope, generally hang all over each other, bicker about who'd blow who, and talk about how deeply in love they are and compare their comedic partnership to a marriage, it is little wonder why.
*** The Music/{{BTS}} fandom also has quite a few of these, with some of the most popular being "[=YoonMin=]" (Suga/Jimin) and "[=VKook=]" (Jungkook/V)
** What happened when [[http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt177/cocoich/af127418.jpg Hugh Jackman met Daniel Henney]] = [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QNzNTbXjc8 JackHen is real]].
* [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benelux Benelux]]. That's right: '''Be'''lgium, the '''Ne'''therlands and '''Lux'''emborg are now ''one''.
** Belgium the Netherlands and Luxembourg were originally one, the '''f'''ormer '''U'''nited '''K'''ingdom '''o'''f the '''N'''etherlands. (One True Pairing anyone?)
** [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delmarva_Peninsula Delmarva Peninsula]]: '''Del'''aware + '''Mar'''yland + '''V'''irgini'''a'''. It's odd how a peninsula of that size didn't get a name earlier.
*** Earlier it was known as the "Chesapeake Peninsula" (after the nearby bay).
** A region in the Southern U.S. goes by the name "Texoma" ('''Tex'''as + Oklah'''oma'''), and a city called "Texarkana" ('''Tex'''as + '''Ark'''ansas + Louisi'''ana''').[[note]]Possible bonus {{Pun}} with "arcane".[[/note]]
*** Though Texarkana is actually only located within Texas and Arkansas, as the city's founders thought the northern border of Louisiana was farther north than it actually was.
*** The region surrounding Texarkana now has its own name, "Ark-La-Tex".
*** There's a city that straddles the border of Florida and Alabama called, you guessed it: Florala. Florabama is also a name that pops up in the area between Mobile and Pensacola.
** Cal-Nev-Ari, Nevada is named for '''Cal'''ifornia, '''Nev'''ada, and '''Ari'''zona (although it's nearly 30 miles from the Arizona border).
** Mexicali, Mexico and its cousin, Calexico, California, both on, you guessed it, the border of Mexico and California.
** There is a Kentuckiana on the border of Kentucky and Indiana. Specifically, it's the nickname for most of the border area, centering around the city of Louisville, Kentucky.
*** The region around northern Indiana and southern Michigan (centered around the city of South Bend, Indiana) is referred to as "Michiana". Advertisements, businesses, radio and TV weather reports, etc. often refer to the "Michiana area".
*** Similarly, the border along Illinois and Indiana is occasionally called "Illiana".
** The region where the Big Sandy River joins the Ohio River, where three states meet, is sometimes called "Kyova" ("Ky" for Kentucky, '''O'''hio, and "Va" for Virginia—though this last part of the region has been part of '''West''' Virginia since the [[UsefulNotes/TheAmericanCivilWar Civil War]]).
*** Kenova, West Virginia, which sits at the junction of these rivers, also got its name from those three states. (It was founded in 1859, when West Virginia was still part of Virginia, but wasn't incorporated until 1894.)
** In the San Francisco Bay Area, the wealthy East Bay suburbs of '''La'''fayette, '''Mor'''aga, and Or'''inda''' are collectively known as "Lamorinda" (although given the price of housing there, [[JustForPun "Morindette"]] might be a better arrangement).
** "Pakistan" is one of these--it's a meaningful Urdu word, but also stands for its constituent regions of '''P'''unjab, '''A'''fghania, '''K'''ashmir, '''S'''indh, and Balochi'''stan'''.
** [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimerica Chimerica]], a term describing the economic relationship between China and America. If that's a reference to [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_%28mythology%29 a creature made monstrous by the combination of antithetical elements, so foolish it couldn't possibly exist]]... [[PunctuatedForEmphasis Best. Portmanteau. Ever]].
** In west Africa, Senegal and the Gambia used to form the Senegambia Confederation between 1982 and 1989.
** The African nation of Tanzania's name is supposed to be a portmanteau. Basically the first three letters come from Tanganyika or the mainland, "zan" comes from the island of Zanzibar, and then they added "ia".
** During UsefulNotes/WorldWarTwo, to the Italians "Axis" was just them and Germany-- the trio was called "Roberto" for-- you guessed it-- '''Ro'''me, '''Ber'''lin, '''To'''kyo.
** In Canada there is Alsama: '''Al'''berta, '''Sa'''skatchewan, and '''Ma'''nitoba, also known as the Prairies.
** In the Philippines, there's the CAMANAVA region which includes the cities '''Ca'''loocan, '''Ma'''labon, '''Na'''votas, and '''Va'''lenzuela. The Philippines itself is sometimes called LUZVIMINDA; combining the name of its three main island groups '''Luz'''on, '''Vi'''zayas and '''Minda'''nao.
*** Southern Luzon Region, is divided as CALABARZON (composed of '''Cav'''ite, '''La'''guna, '''Ba'''tangas, '''R'''izal, Que'''zon''') and MIMAROPA ('''Mi'''ndoro, '''Ma'''rinduque, '''Ro'''mblon, and '''Pa'''lawan).
*** More malevolent is the region made up of South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City, which is... SOCCSKSARGEN (pronounced "sock-SAR-jen").
* There is the ever so [[{{Lesyay}} popular]] Chenzel, which is [[TheCutie Kristin Chenoweth]] and Idina Menzel. It does have some rather [[RomanticTwoGirlFriendship suspicious]] back up.
* More celeb HoYay would be Pinto -- no, not [[EveryCarIsAPinto that kind of pinto]] -- Creator/ZacharyQuinto and Creator/ChrisPine.
* When Creator/NeilGaiman began dating singer Music/AmandaPalmer, a fan on Twitter suggested their celebrity couple couple name should be "Gaimanda". Neil Gaiman's response: "please don't". (At one point, they lampshaded this trope by suggesting they be collectively referred to as "Steve.")
* Technically not a couple name, but it is a portmanteau for the parents... Liger and tigon are combinations of tigers and lions. Male parent goes first (i.e. liger = lion daddy, tiger mommy).
** It gets worse -- The name for a Serval/Caracal crossbreed is "Servical".
*** There's also "Zorse" -- a zebra/horse hybrid and "Zonkey" -- a zebra/donkey hybrid.
*** This runs rampant with naming hybrids: Grolar bear or pizzly (polar bear/grizzly), wholphin (dolphin/false killer whale), blynx (bobcat/lynx)... The latter two are a little ridiculous, as false killer whales are technically dolphins, and bobcats are ''a type of lynx'' ("blynx" refers specifically to hybrids of the bobcat and the Canada lynx, which are the only two species in the lynx genus to ever be crossbred).
*** Also, any "designer dog" is likely to have this, puggles (pug/beagle) being the most famous example. Whatever happened to saying "mixed breed"?
*** [[InherentlyFunnyWords Labradoodle]]
*** If a Cavalier canoodles a Poodle the result is a Cavoodle. Dogs as silly as the name suggests.
* The now-defunct department store chain Pamida was named after co-founder Jim Witherspoon's three sons, Pat, Mike, and David.
* Miramax got its name from the combination of the Weinstein Brothers' parents' names (Miriam + Max)
* Another non-shipping example: ''Sports Illustrated'' referred to the San Francisco Giants' dominating pair of starting pitchers, Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain, as "Lincecain".
** Similarly, Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry = Robbery. (Appropriate, since the former is a notorious cheater.)
* Two prominent members of Rangerboard.com, Phil [=DeLuca=] and Avril Pingault, who got attached and married in real life (he's American and she's Australian), led to the name Phavril.
* Ohno Satoshi and Ninomiya Kazunari from the Japanese band Music/{{Arashi}} invented their own Portmanteau couple name of Ohmiya SK.
* Ediswan. Okay, so it's a lightbulb company. That's romantic![[note]]Combination of two men credited with inventing the incadescent light, Thomas Edison and Joseph Swan.[[/note]]
* In a self-imposed example, Ian Murdock in 1993 named his fledgling GNU/Linux distribution using a portmanteau with his then-girlfriend, Debra. Fortunately for [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian Debian]], the couple got married in 1996. Perhaps less propitiously, they got divorced in 2007...
* In an unintentionally {{squick}}y example, two contestants on the British talent show ''The X Factor'', two twins that sing together named John and Edward, have had their names smushed together to give a name for the group -- Jedward. It's not meant to be a shipping term, but it certainly implies [[{{Twincest}} as much]].
* For those in the Music/NickCave[=/=]Blixa Bargeld "Nixa ::heart::" is the common way to express your shipping position. Coilhouse refers to Nixa as the new Kirk/Spock.
* OlderThanTelevision: Creator/GeorgeBernardShaw referred to Creator/GKChesterton and Creator/HilaireBelloc as "Chesterbelloc". Almost certainly a [[HeterosexualLifePartners non-shipping example]] though. Well, ''[[http://www.public-domain-poetry.com/poetry.php?pdid=9123 almost]]'' certainly.
** In another possible case, the Brisbane suburb of Herston, Queensland, was named after the first Premier of Queensland, Sir Robert '''Her'''bert, and his devoted friend, Sir Robert Bram'''ston'''. In naming the house where they lived together, they made the choice to combine their surnames. It later became the name of the suburb.
* [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ore-Ida Ore-Ida]] frozen foods is a (non-ship) portmanteau of the first three letters of Idaho (where the founders are from) and Oregon (where they began their business).
* There's good-natured competition between Jamiltonian and Jadams shippers. UsefulNotes/ThomasJefferson[=/=]UsefulNotes/AlexanderHamilton and UsefulNotes/ThomasJefferson[=/=]UsefulNotes/JohnAdams. [[RuleThirtyFour Yeah, people went there]].
* {{UsefulNotes/Oxbridge}}, though some prefer "Camford".
* ''Franchise/StarTrek'' [[RealPersonFic RPF]] has quite a few, with Shatnoy ([[Creator/WilliamShatner Shatner]]/[[Creator/LeonardNimoy Nimoy]]) and Pinto ([[Creator/ChrisPine Pine]]/[[Creator/ZacharyQuinto Quinto]]) being the two most common (although Urbine ([[Creator/KarlUrban Urban]]/[[Creator/ChrisPine Pine]]) is gaining in popularity as well). The hilarious thing? Pinto and Shatnoy pretty much seem to ship themselves. Especially Shatnoy.
* [[UsefulNotes/NickClegg Cl]][[UsefulNotes/DavidCameron ameron]], the nickname for the absolutely HoYay-tastic coalition formed between the [[UsefulNotes/BritishPoliticalSystem Conservatives and Liberal Democrats]] after the 2010 elections. For a show of how meta this trope has become, even the media refers to the two by this name. Hardly surprising, as they themselves were guilty of writing the first RealPersonFic of the two, in addition to the [[YaoiFangirl usual suspects]]. Cleggeron is an alternate name for this pairing.
* Jerry Holkins of ''Webcomic/PennyArcade'''s last name is a merger of the original last names of him and his wife.
* "Bamco" for Creator/{{Bandai Namco|Entertainment}}, after the two companies merged.
** Likewise, "Squeenix" after the Creator/SquareEnix merge.
* In 1895 King Leopold II of Belgium met "''[[HighClassCallGirl grande horizontale]]''" Cleo de Merode; gossipmongers started referring to them as "Cleopolde".
* After the stacked with HoYay ''Film/SherlockHolmes2009'' movie, the fandom reacted not only to the relations between the characters, but actually [[RealPersonFic pairing the actors gathered a pretty large fanbase]]. [=RDJ=]ude (Creator/RobertDowneyJr[=/=]Creator/JudeLaw) in particular.
* The ''Blur'' fandom usually does this; examples are Gramon (Graham/Damon), Gralex (Graham/Alex) and Dalex (Damon/Alex).
* Creator/DiannaAgron and Creator/LeaMichele, (Quinn and Rachel, respectively, on ''Series/{{Glee}}'') are Achele.
** Likewise, Creator/DarrenCriss and Creator/ChrisColfer are [=CrissColfer=].
** Also, Creator/HeatherMorris and Creator/NayaRivera are Heya.
** Dianna Agron and Naya Rivera are equal-usage either Nayanna or Rivegron.
** Dianna Agron and Heather Morris are Morgon.
** Dianna Agron and Chord Overstreet are Overgron.
** Naya Rivera and Lea Michele are Riverchele.
** Lea Michele and Heather Morris are Leather.
** Lea Michele and Creator/CoryMonteith are Monchele. Before Monteith's passing, this was the only relationship that was real... unless you ask the shippers.
** Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer are Monfer.
** Amber Riley and Chord Overstreet are Rileystreet.
** Kevin [=McHale=] and Jenna Ushkowitz are [=McHalowitz=].

* [[Franchise/{{Transformers}} Hasbro and Takara-Tomy]]: Has-Tak! Hasbro's own name might count in a [[WeWillUseWikiWordsInTheFuture weird way]]: Hassenfeld Brothers.
* Due to Creator/JamesMcAvoy and Creator/MichaelFassbender's extreme HoYay in ''Film/XMenFirstClass'' as well as in interviews, the world now has "Fassavoy," "[=McFassy=]" and "Mcbender." Which is hilarious for anyone from the UK, where the word bender is entirely appropriate.
* Tilena (Creator/TimBurton and Creator/HelenaBonhamCarter) is becoming quite popular on Website/{{Tumblr}}. Of course, they actually were a couple in real life.
* After showing off their [[HoYay bromance]] at the LA Premiere of ''Film/RiseOfThePlanetOfTheApes'', Creator/TomFelton joked that he and Creator/RupertGrint are now Rom/Tupert.
** Feltcliffe (Creator/TomFelton and Creator/DanielRadcliffe) is also quite popular, owing to Tom's remarks about [[YaoiFanboy shipping Drarry]].
* The Glee Project contenders Damian [=McGinty=] and Cameron Mitchell were given the name Dameron (and in rarer cases, Camian) after their impressive friendship was shown throughout the show. The bromance ship name is used both by fans and by official media sources as is evident in interviews and published articles. Their fellow TGP cast mates have also used the portmanteau and many of them often refer to it in numerous interviews and personal comments in Twitter, Facebook and Youtube. The two themselves have acknowledged and used the term, jokingly admitting that their Dameron Bromance will live on forever.
** Also, there's Damsay (Damian/Lindsay, the second most popular pairing after Dameron), Camrissa (Cameron/Marissa, though it's usually unrequited in fanfics, giving that in-show, Marissa picked Samuel over Cameron for partner), Marissam (Marissa/Samuel), Mathellis (Matheus/Ellis), etc.
* Most bandslash pairings, such as [[Music/AvengedSevenfold Synacky]] and [[Music/MyChemicalRomance Frerard]].
* Authors Creator/KAApplegate and Creator/MichaelGrant are married, and have admitted that any book credited to one of them has the other as an unofficial co-writer. As such, fans often refer to them together as [=AppleGrant=].
* Israeli Tennis duo [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Ram Andy Ram]] and [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Erlich Jonathan (Yoni) Erlich]] are usually referred to by the media as [=AndiYoni=].
* ''Series/DowntonAbbey'''s Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth [=McGovern=], aka the Earl and Countess of Grantham, had already played husband and wife twice before they were tapped for the series, and thanks to a confused security guy at the Golden Globes, have been dubbed "the [=McGonnevilles=]". Tumblr, as Tumblr does, took note and ran away with it.
* Invoked with LetsPlay/InTheLittleWood and his girlfriend Kaeyi, whose channel is called [=KaeyisDream=]. Their joint channel is called [[https://www.youtube.com/user/InTheLittleDream InTheLittleDream]].
* ''VideoGame/{{Mother}}'' Series FandomVIP Tomato (AKA "The Guy Who [[FanTranslation Translated]] ''VideoGame/{{Mother 3}}'' When Nintendo Wouldn't") uses the nickname "Poemato" in the video game streams and projects he does with his wife, who uses the web name [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Poe Trader.]] For example, [[http://www.twitch.tv/clydemandelin/b/544607185 this one.]]
* The Waitrose supermarket is named after two of its founders, Waite and Rose. (The third, Taylor, [[ThePeteBest left before they became famous]]).
* Pioneering SilentMovie power couple Creator/MaryPickford and Creator/DouglasFairbanks built an estate in Beverly Hills. The press started calling it Pickfair.
* There are natural springs with reputed health benefits near the wine country in California's Napa and Sonoma Valleys. A businessman seeking to build a resort near the springs was promoting his venture by describing the area as "the Saratoga of California," referring to Saratoga Springs in upstate New York. He had a slip of the tongue and created an accidental portmanteau, "Calistoga," which stuck, and is now the name of the town on the springs in California.
* Golfer Tiger Woods describes his ethnic background as "Cablinasian", a portmanteau of '''Ca'''ucasian, '''Bl'''ack, '''In'''dian (i.e., Native American), and '''Asian'''.
* The husband-and-wife team of Desi Arnaz and Creator/LucilleBall formed the '''Creator/{{Desilu|Studios}}''' television production company, most famous for producing ''Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries''.
* Similarly (perhaps inspired by Desilu), then husband-and-wife Creator/CourteneyCox and Creator/DavidArquette formed a production company named '''Coquette''' Productions.
* {{Trance}} producer Ram Boon produced the song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CULZK1HFs8s "RAMelia (Tribute to Amelia)"]] combining his name with his late wife's. Warning, {{tearjerker}} ahead.
* The American M18 recoilless rifle (57mm), used in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, was also called the "Kromuskit" after its designers, '''Kro'''ger and '''Mus'''ser (+ "kit", as certain items were carried separately, like the ammunition and a bipod or tripod).
** Also the bazooka (bassoon + kazoo), originally a comical musical instrument played by comedian Bob Burns, the name being applied to the rocket launcher, which resembled it.
** The name of the British Bren Gun is a portmanteau of the Czech weapons firm '''Br'''no and the Royal Small Arms Factory '''En'''field.
*** The British had a penchant for this sort of thing. The STEN gun was a mix of the two designers, Reginald '''S'''hepherd and Harold '''T'''urpin and the same '''En'''field.
*** The 20mm Polsten cannon acknowledged two Polish designers + the previously mentioned Shepherd, Turpin and Enfield.
*** ADEN cannon: Armament Development Establishment + Enfield.
*** RARDEN cannon: Royal Armament Research and Development Establishment + Enfield.
* Believe it or not, some real life couples actually give names like that to their children. Depending on the laws in the country they live in this may be illegal, however. (Germany, for instance, has a relatively strict policy on only allowing names for which precedent exists.)
* North American railroads generate a number of these due to a high number of independent companies and their penchant for mergers.
** After the Pennsylvania and Reading railroads merged their Jersey Shore operations in 1934, one of the new junctions was named "Pennred".
** The junction between the former Conrail Pittsburgh Line and the Conemaugh Line is called "Conpit".
** The west end of the joint operating territory between the Western Pacific and Southern Pacific railroads became the town of WESO, Nevada.
* Non-romantic example: in 2016, many fans of women's gymnastics began referring to the American gymnasts Ashton Locklear and Madison Kocian as "Locklian" because their uneven bars routines were nearly identical in both skills and execution -- so much so that they could have been interchangeable on that event.[[note]]The only difference between them was that Locklear, due to previous injury, no longer competed floor or vault, whereas Kocian had solid and well-executed (albeit not terribly difficult) sets on both. In the end, this difference was almost certainly why Kocian -- who could step in on any event if needed in case of injury -- made the final team, while Locklear "merely" earned an alternate spot.[[/note]]
* Non-romantic but leading to a DiscussedTrope moment: Brandon Heath and Mandisa ended up doing a tour together which was dubbed the Brandisa Tour. Neither was happy with the apparent shipping that implied, leading to them discussing why romance wasn't going to happen; Brandon was happily in a relationship and Mandisa stated that he [[HasAType wasn't her type which she described as "big black born again believer with a beard, joking at the end that Brandon only fit the last two qualities]].
* The town of Harbel, in Liberia, is a portmanteau of the first names of its founder, '''Har'''vey Firestone and his wife, Ida'''bel'''le.
* Actors Creator/LanaParrilla and [[Creator/RebeccaMader Rebecca "Bex" Mader]] became best friends while working on ''Series/OnceUponATime''. The fandom promptly christened them "Bexana".
* The [[UsefulNotes/AustralianPolitics Australian political system]] is sometimes referred to as "Washminster", as it combines features from the American (Washington) and British (Westminster) systems.
* The city of Budapest is actually two cities on opposite sides of the Danube River. One is called Buda, and the other is called Pest.
* ''Franchise/DCExtendedUniverse'' fans have taken to referring to Creator/BenAffleck and Creator/HenryCavill as "Benry", which the actors have commented on. An alternative is referring to them as "Caffleck".
