* Non-romantic example: in 2016, many fans of women's gymnastics began referring to the American gymnasts Ashton Locklear and Madison Kocian as "Locklian" because their uneven bars routines were nearly identical in both skills and execution -- so much so that they could have been interchangeable on that event. The only difference between them was that Locklear, due to previous injury, no longer competed floor or vault, whereas Kocian had solid and well-executed (albeit not terribly difficult) sets on both.

In the end, this difference was almost certainly why Kocian -- who could step in on any event if needed in case of injury -- made the final team, while Locklear "merely" earned an alternate spot.

Added DiffLines:

* Series/RebeldeWay: Pablizza (Pablo/Marizza) and Minuel (Mia/Manuel). They haven't completely taken off, due to the series not being that well known in english speaking audiences, but at least pablizza is used prominently in videos and as a hashtag in twitter. And admittedly, it rolls off the tongue quite nicely.

* A lot of these show up in Onmyōji, but the special mention goes to the Arakawa-no-aruji × Ichimokuren and Susabi × Ichimokuren pairings, as Arakawa-no-aruji's name (荒川の主) and Susabi's name (荒) start with the same kanji. If you see a kanji ship name that is 荒目, that's [=AraMoku=], and if it's 荒一, that's [=SusaIchi=]. Most Japanese fans simply write the ship names in kana.

* The Flash: Somewhat averted for two of the most common ships: Westallen (Iris/Barry) and Pun Snowbarry (Caitlin/Barry). Played straight for Baricity (Barry/Felicity), Snowstorm (Caitlin/Ronnie) and Caitlicity (Caitlin/Felicity). No one seems to have quite settled for a name for Eddie/Iris yet, however.

Added DiffLines:

* Series/Riverdale is littered with these, despite Archie comics fanbase generally not using ship-names.
** Betty/Jughead: Bughead -- Riverdale fandom's FanPreferredCouple
** Archie/Veronica: Varchieor Archieronnie

** Jughead/Archie: Jarchie
** Betty/Archie: Barchieor Archetty
** Archie/Valerie: Archieval
*** There are also a number of crack-ships sailing about, most likely due to CW's prevalence to cast good-looking people. Here are a few:

*** Jughead/Veronica: Juronica
*** Cheryl/Josie: Cherosie
*** Archie/Veronica/Betty: Beronchie

* Although Portmanteau Couple Names don't really happen that much in Manga/Naruto fandom (they tend to be things like [=NaruHina=] for the pairing of Naruto and Hinata rather than [=NaruNata=]), the similarity of the character names make it very easy to do this. (Possibly) the best crossover one? Narutonystark.
