It's hard to say which one was the bigger eyesore, and it's probably not a coincidence that he cut his hair the morning he [[ComicBook/SupermanTheWeddingAlbum married Lois Lane]].
* Many Creator/DCComics characters had mullets in the '90s, such as Beast Boy and ComicBook/{{Nightwing}}. Nightwing's mullet is likely the most famous besides Superman's and often gets referenced to this day (usually to be made fun of). In a reversal from Supes, Nightwing sometimes wore it [[https://comicdomwrecks.wordpress.com/2012/07/26/behold-the-majesty-of-nightwings/ as a ponytail]] while in costume.
* [[Comicbook/RobinSeries Tim Drake]] wore his hair gelled into spikes as Robin.

* ''WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994'': Although one may not notice it, but Simba's mane is reminiscent of a curtain style, given that this film premiered in 1994.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}}'' (which came out in 1992) has the titular character’s boyish hair combed to one side. The animators even confirmed they based Aladdin‘s appearance off Creator/TomCruise.
* ''WesternAnimation/TreasurePlanet'' though it came out in 2002, the protagonist Jim Hawkins’s curtains hairdo with a ponytail is unmistakably '90s.

* ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'': Edward Elric has curtains, along with a braided pony tail in the back. The manga premiered in 2001, so this was likely a hangover of nineties style into the next decade.

** ''Film/CaptainMarvel2019'': the main story is set in 1995, with both Carol Danvers and her fellow test pilots sporting this kind of hair. Notably, Danvers later switches to a more modern haircut after the five-year TimeSkip in ''Film/AvengersEndgame'' that still [[MythologyGag homages her comic hairstyle]].

It wasn't all grunge, however. Getting closer to the TurnOfTheMillennium, newer style experiments came into play. Crimpers meant people with straight hair could iron it into becoming curly and wavy. If you were into the hip-hop scene, some other hair oddities would be to arrange your hair grow your hair into something resembling a BeehiveHairdo with a flat-top, or to shave words into the back of your head. For the ladies, this would include things like cornrows and crazy braids. A little bit of EightiesHair had been retained, reserved specifically for extra large bangs. Also, after Music/{{Eminem}} hit it big in early 1999, a lot of teenage and college aged boys immediately began cutting their hair short and combing it in the style of Marshall Mathers.
