** His rather harsh comment about how he was tired of Franchise/ScoobyDoo and he was getting annoyed by its formula going on for so long. Reactions were polarized to say the least, not helped by him saying he hated every single new Scooby Doo movie or follow up, sparking reactions from fans of WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooMysteryIncorporated (which, if anything, justifies the fans' reactions).

Reactions were polarized to say the least, not helped by him saying he hated every single new Scooby Doo movie or follow up, sparking reactions from fans of WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooMysteryIncorporated (which, if anything, justifies the fans' reactions). Plesantly subverted for the most part in his Top 6 shows I hate that everyone else loves list when he explained that he didn't hate any of the characters, the settings, or the formula; just what has been done with it. (It also helps that he said Mystery Incorporated was actually was pretty good)

Added DiffLines:

**The funny thing about all this is that Phantomstrider8 frequently reminds people that his reviews are very clearly his opinions (his catch prase is, "It's just my silly personal opinion") and that people shuld feel free to disagree. Some fans just can't stand a dissenting opinion it seems.

** Even his tidbits that don't involve comparisons aren't immune. Dogasu jokingly made fun of Keldeo's dub voice in the trailer for ''Anime/PokemonKyuremVsTheSwordOfJustice''... which happened to be done by VicMignogna; thereupon getting Dogasu ridiculed by his followers.

* WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic parodied this tendency in his review of ''Anime/{{Ponyo|On The Cliff By The Sea}}'', enlisting an entire panel at an anime con, ''and Creator/SpikeSpencer'' to do violence upon him in response to his daring to criticize even one iota of Creator/HayaoMiyazaki's films.

* WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic reviewed ''LiveActionTV/FullHouse''... negatively. It went about as well as you would expect.

* While WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic previously made it clear he's never cared for the franchise before, he ended up generating some backlash during one of his commercial specials where he dismissed ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' as nothing but a fad (despite the games still selling well two decades later) and was rooting for all the characters to be gruesomely killed. After the backlash from that, he's since had a RunningGag of routinely bringing the series up to bash it in some form, which he has done in response to getting ''death threats'' over the bit, but regardless a lot of people aren't pleased with his attitude.

* WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic:
** ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog'' (although Doug Walker admitted in the commentary that while he definitely considers ''WesternAnimation/SonicSatAM'' to be the better of the two ''Sonic'' series, he really exaggerated his disdain for ''Adventures'' and even thinks it looks better as he looks back on it).
** Viewers gave the Nostalgia Critic some heat when he gave in to their requests for a review of the LiveActionAdaptation of ''Film/TheFlintstones'', and opened his review by admitting he hates that cartoon.
** In his "Top 11 Nostalgia Critics I will Never Do", he admits to hating the [[WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries '90s]] ''[[WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries Spider-Man]]'' [[WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries cartoon]]. Fan reaction was obvious.
** He's not a fan of ''WesternAnimation/{{Doug}}'' either, [[NamesTheSame for obvious reasons]]. Again, no need to explain the reaction.
** In his Editorial where he debates whether ''WesternAnimation/TheLooneyTunesShow'' is good or bad, he listed ''WesternAnimation/DuckDodgers'' as an example of a Looney Tunes sellout. Needless to say, this angered a lot of fans of the series.
** He's made it clear that he doesn't like ''Disney/{{Hercules}}'' and criticized it in the Disneycember review, which has irked several fans of the film. It didn't help when he took a shot at it in the "Worst Years of Film" editorial.
** Inverted by the crossover review of ''WesternAnimation/HeavyMetal'' with WebVideo/DiamandaHagan. They were fully aware of the cult following it had, and praised the animation and soundtrack (with particular focus on the "B-17" and "Taarna" segments) despite acknowledging the film itself was very strange and the stories sort of trailed off. Fan reaction was quite positive, and they promptly requested Doug review fellow cult film ''WesternAnimation/RockAndRule''.
** While he didn't really pan it, just admitting he thought the ending to ''WesternAnimation/ToyStory3'' was cheesy got him a good amount of hate.
** In his review of ''WesternAnimation/MonstersInc'', he said that the film was SoOkayItsAverage and that he "probably wouldn't watch it again." There was a bit of a reaction when he first posted the review, and it would come back to haunt him when he later gave positive reviews to ''WesternAnimation/TheWild'' and ''WesternAnimation/BeeMovie''.
** There was also some expected backlash when he admitted he disliked the original ''WesternAnimation/{{Shrek}}''.
** Like the above mentioned Monsters Inc., Doug later revealed during the commentary for the live action ''Film/TheCatInTheHat'' movie that he didn't like ''WesternAnimation/MonstersUniversity'', saying that his main reason was because he felt the movie was a ClicheStorm of "80s college films" tropes.[[note]]Never mind that the movie itself was made as a purposeful ''homage'' to said 80s college films.[[/note]] He later took a jab at it at the end of the ''WesternAnimation/TheSwanPrincess'' review, stating that it was "diet Pixar".
*** He later uploaded a full Disneycember review of ''Monsters University'', where he admits that he outright despised it, calling it "boring", "awful", and "a stale experience" and claiming that it's just as bad as ''Cars 2'', Pixar's worst-reviewed film.
** He also did a Disneycember review of ''Disney/BigHero6'', stating that it was SoOkayItsAverage, feeling it was serviceable for kids but overrated and predictable for older audiences. Fans of both ''Monsters University'' and ''Big Hero 6'' were baffled and annoyed.

** She got a taste of this when she panned almost the entirety of the ''Franchise/{{Transformers}}'' franchise (not just the [[Franchise/TransformersFilmSeries Michael Bay films]]) in a review. Comments of "You're a girl, you wouldn't understand!" abounded. And it wasn't even a pan, more of a "brilliant idea, lots of fun, but boy is it silly", a viewpoint held by many sane Transfans.

This can be particularly (even excessively) apparent if what the reviewer is criticizing is either (a) incredibly popular and / or (b) possesses an intensely committed fanbase. It's not easy to go against the grain and admit that your tastes are not in step with the majority, especially if that majority consists of people who mistake an attack on their favorite show as an attack on ''them'' personally and are primed to [[FanDumb flame-war first and skip the asking questions part]].

** In an odd subversion, Owen's review of ''WesternAnimation/{{Ratatouille}}'' (seen [[http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ratatouille/comments.php?reviewid=1640717 here]]). Although Owen gave the 96% Rotten Tomatoes scored movie a modest rating (a "B"), he was mainly insulted from his remark about how celebrity voice actors are superior to ordinary ones. This remark drew ''lots'' of heat, especially since ''Ratatouille'' was released a year after Pixar's arguably weakest film, ''WesternAnimation/{{Cars}}'', a movie ''full'' of celebrity voice actors. His review was later VindicatedByHistory, since Owen gave Pixar's following movies ''WesternAnimation/WallE'' and ''WesternAnimation/ToyStory3'' "A" scores, and since the Pixar fanbase doesn't defend ''WesternAnimation/{{Ratatouille}}'' as heavily years later.

* Creator/AnaMardoll is very popular within the ''Twilight'' hatedom because of her critical reviews of ''Twilight''. However, she began to alienate more than just ''Twilight'' fans afte her reviews of the ''Chronicles of Narnia'', which are a childhood favourite of many readers. Not that the criticism is necessarily unjust, but it is surprising how many UnfortunateImplications people can point out if they read through a book with a fine-toothed comb instead of just reading it for entertainment. Whether the condemnation that the work attracts as a result is justified or not is pretty much entirely in the eye of the beholder.

* ''The Media Man'' (a DeviantArt-based critic of everything from film to TV to literature) once called ''WesternAnimation/SpongebobSquarepants'' one of the worst TV shows ever. No, not just [[SeasonalRot Season 6 or any other post movie season]], the ''entire'' show. Fans were ''not'' happy. The same thing happened when he reviewed ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'', in which case the backlash got so toxic he was forced to close the comments on the review.

* Don East ironically never faced this in his series, ''Anime Abomination''. Rather, he faced this when live-tweeting shows that aired on WesternAnimation/{{Toonami}}. The two shows he was the most critical towards were ''LightNovel/SwordArtOnline'' and ''Manga/BlueExorcist.'' The latter in particular suffered this because he tended to call the series a [[ClicheStorm generic shonen anime]], but explaining very little just why it was. It was especially jarring since he praised ''Manga/OnePiece'' and ''Manga/SoulEater'' to the high heavens, but some have accused those shows of having more glaring cliches than ''Blue Exorcist.'' Most of his complaints towards the series, especially the first portion, were nitpicks at worst (like complaining about the Camping Trip episode allegedly being filler without even sitting through it entirely). He unfairly treated Shiemi as TheScrappy while he tended to gush over similar characters like [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Orihime]]. One moment of frustration with the series had him deliberately spoil [[spoiler: that Shima was a double agent]], which he actually apologized for. One incident, [[FanHater he made an implied threat towards fans of the series]] if the show got better ratings than ''Manga/OnePiece'' (saying that he hoped for their sake that he didn't meet any of them at a convention he was going to at the time). It's not so much that he panned the series that got under people's skins, but rather his overall attitude towards it. Another odd thing was that when he riffed the first episode, he wasn't as harsh on it as the rest of the series, so it makes you wonder if he wanted to hate the series afterword simply because [[ComplainingAboutPeopleNotLikingTheShow it got better ratings than One Piece]]. He also criticized ''Manga/AttackOnTitan,'' but most people let it slide because he was at least fair towards the series.
