** Inverted in ''VideoGame/SonicForces''. Hedgehog Avatars are shown to have seperate eyes unlike most hedgehog characters.

** WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse is an interesting example. In his first two cartoons he has large googley eyes with a clear separation, but by "Steamboat Willie" the outlines disappear and the pupils become the eyes, while the rims become eyebrows. Occasionally, however, the "eyes" would move around the face, and if it's dark the whole eye-brow area lights up. As animation became more realistic, Mickey's design began to seem weird and unnatural, so he was redesigned with eyes that have pupils.
