** While were on the mention of sports, any team who's a rival to the Los Angeles Lakers or the Boston Celtics would qualify to those two since all they raelly care about is fighting against each other.
* Does anyone who doesn't live in Illinois or Wisconsin know or care about the Chicago Bears / Green Bay Packers rivalry?

** Another Canadian hockey example would be the intense rivalry between the Montreal Canadiens and the Quebec Nordiques, which captivated Quebecers but was largely unknown outside la belle province. Unfortunately, this has petered out since the Nordiques moved to Colorado in the 1990s.

* In Blade: The Series, Marcus Van Sciver has spent decades plotting revenge against the pureblood Damek, who brutally murdered his wife in front of him and then had Van Sciver sent to a bunch of feral vampires, who ended up turning him. Eventually, Marcus confronts Damek and starts a fight. Right before Van Sciver kills him, Damek laughs and tells him that he can't even remember Marcus's wife or him. Justified in that he is centuries old and, presumably, has been killing people all this time.

* Inverted in Joss Whedon's Buffy related comic Fray. Main character Melaka Fray realizes that something is odd when the vampire that killed her twin brother and almost killed her 5 years ago (back when she was just a 14 year old StreetUrchin and no one special) does recognize her, knows her name, and appears to be gunning for her. It's understandable that she's spent 5 years dreaming about killing him, but why does he know her name or even remember her at all when she and her brother should have been just another couple of kills in a long series of them? It's a major sign that more is going on than she realizes.

Gallipoli is pretty big in Australia and Turkey too. For the rest of the world, I gather that it was a footnote at best.

* Hilarious heroic example in FullmetalAlchemist: Brotherhood. The former CorruptBureaucrat Yoki lost everything after being defeated by the Elric brothers, but when he encounters them, neither remembers him. There's then a whole UnreliableVoiceover in silent movie style where he complains about his travails, but the Elrics don't pay any attention to him (and neither does anyone else in the room).

** In this case, the trope is used to compress several episodes worth of Filler into a short scene. Everything Yoki complains about happened in the manga and the first anime, but was cut from Brotherhood to focus more on the main story arc. Barry the Chopper gets the same treatment.

* Similarly, in Canada, the War of 1812 is essentially considered to be something just short of the "Great Patriotic War" that helped create Canada as a nation distinct from the USA. American history books make a big deal about how it inspired a huge wave of nationalism as well as our national anthem, but most Americans don't think much of it and might even assume it was just part of the the Revolution, and hardly anyone knows that Canada was even involved. In Britain, it's mentioned as an offshoot of the Napoleonic Wars, if at all.

** You say "we" as if everyone cares. For those of us who have no interest in football (and there's plenty of us), the whole World Cup is in a sense "just Tuesday".
