* This is a significant theme in ''GonewiththeWind''. Scarlett spends the majority of the novel lusting after Ashley, who is different from her in every way that counts. Even though a bunch of characters, most often her father, tell her that like needs to marry like it takes her until the end of the novel to figure out she would be happiest with roguish Rhett Butler.

** And in the case of ''GundamWing'', Heero Yuy and Relena Peacecraft are both this and OppositesAttract.

* Wendy and Tyler in ''TheMiddleman'' are both geeky artists with a high potential for heroics (even if Wendy was the one eventually chosen for the post).

* This appears to be the main appeal of the Greece/Japan pairing in the ''AxisPowersHetalia'' fandom (well, aside from the [[IfYouKnowWhatIMean "private lesson"]]). They both have quiet, subdued personalities and share a love of cats, and they're about the only teased-at couple that doesn't have a {{Tsundere}} or OppositesAttract dynamic.

* Ranma and Akane from [[RanmaOneHalf Ranma 1/2]] could be described as this. They're both stubborn, headstrong, competitive, VERY short-tempered, forgiving, and competent martial artists. Whether those similar traits are the very things that attracted them to each other in the first place is up for debate.
* Kyohei and Sunako from ''TheWallflower''. In spite of their obvious surface differences (Kyohei is a [[EvenTheGuysWantHim devastatingly handsome]] guy, Sunako a [[NightmareFetishist devastatingly creepy]] StrangeGirl), they're actually a lot alike deep down. Both of them [[SoBeautifulItsACurse don't think too highly of surface beauty]], have [[ObliviousToLove MAJOR issues with romance]] ([[EveryoneCanSeeIt much to the frustration of the other characters and readers]]), and Kyohei can even enjoy playing gory video games or watching horror movies with Sunako.
* Lily and Terry in the FatalFury OAV's. Both are former street children who endured lots to survive in South Town.

** And in the case of GundamWing, Heero Yuy and Relena Peacecraft are both this and OppositesAttract.

* Topher and Bennett of {{Dollhouse}} serve pretty much the exact same function in there respective houses.

* In HappyTreeFriends, Cuddles and Giggles both love the color pink, and both are really nice characters with hidden depths (Cuddles is rather rebellious, and Giggles gets ''pissed'' at polluters.) Plus, even for Happy Tree Friends, [[TheChewToy they die a lot]].
* On the ''TotalDrama'' series, Gwen and Duncan become close after they discover that they share several interests in common. While they insist that they're JustFriends, their respected partners get incredible hostile over it, resulting in [[spoiler: one break up and one seriously strained relationship]].

* A platonic example is John Dixon and Reid Oliver on AsTheWorldTurns. Well, so far. John's already declared he liked Reid, and Reid didn't treat John with the same contempt he treats almost everyone he meets. At first, that probably had to do with his attempts at working on his people skills, but when he found out John and Bob used to go at it back in the day, he seemed legitimately impressed.

* Tired of Sakura calling him and {{Naruto}} pervs, Konohamaru made a point by giving her a nosebleed with a male counterpart to the "sexy jutsu". [[YaoiFangirl It]] [[Funny/{{Naruto}} works]].
