** Suzaku and Euphie. Their goals are the same, they have a very similar sense of humor, and they get serious about the same things. Not to mention a moment in the anime, where they're shown to say the same thing at the same time, only to both burst out chuckling.

* "Manga/SpyXFamily": [[TuxedoAndMartini Loid]] and [[ProfessionalKiller Yor]] are only into a MarriageOfConvenience, but as thet grow closer they it becomes clear they have a lot in common: both are individuals who are orphaned at a very young age, partake in morally grey and life risking jobs for completely selfless goals while trying to hide their identities from everyone around them, and are extremely proficient in their respective occupations to the point they reached legendary status. They both also greatly care for Anya, despite not being their biological daughter. It isn't long before [[BecomingTheMask they start falling for real with each other]].

** Lelouch and C.C. resemble each other in many ways. Because she is an outgoing {{Tsundere}} who wishes people would see women as equals, she finds him refreshing and wonderful, calling him her "precious confidant," and loves talking with him because they have similar views. To further this trope, she ''hates'' [[StalkerWithACrush Sali Taiyi]] because of his chauvinistic views and [[AxCrazy horribly violent ways]].

The dynamic of this pair differs widely from OppositesAttract pair. Their personalities can often be interchangeable and both of them can have a same role if they are a part of a group. However, their common obstacle is having a harder time to compensate for each other's weaknesses.

%%Needs context about their relationship* Manga/TheAncientMagusBride: Both Chise and Elias are, initially, very lonely and have a DarkAndTroubledPast. Chise spent her childhood and early teens being shunned by everyone because of the disasters caused by the supernatural creatures attracted by her sleigh beggy powers. Elias is hated by the fairies and mages (mostly) because he is a "unpure creature", a mixture of human and fairy that became none of them. Both have to learn to interact with people around them and grow as better people.
* Naruko/Anaru and Atsumu/Yukiatsu in ''Anime/AnoHanaTheFlowerWeSawThatDay''. They both blame themselves for Menma's death, have inferiority issues (Anaru, in regards to Menma; Yukiatsu, in regards to Jintan), and are "kindred spirits" in unrequited love. This is why Yukiatsu saw Anaru as a possible back-up girlfriend, too.

* ''Manga/CardcaptorSakuraClearCard'': Sakura becomes fast friends with [[NewTransferStudent Akiho Shinomoto]], the two having similar sounding family names and near-identical personalities. In the anime, Meiling lampshades it, calling Akiho a clone of Sakura.

* Lenalee and Allen from ''Manga/DGrayMan'' are pretty similar in personality (especially in the manga). They're both pretty serious (although Lenalee is a bit more so), both have moments of GetAHoldOfYourselfMan (with one slapping some sense into the other, and the other apologizing and thanking them), and they both have very similar goals and views. Also, love relationship-wise, they're both very not aggressive, and tend to be extremely shy.
* Yamato and Sora from ''Anime/DigimonAdventure''. Both grew up in a single-parent, same-gendered environment; [[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 the sequel]] reveals that Sora's father is never home due to his job. Both have distant relationships with their mothers. Both experience their Crests not glowing, which stems from their respective issues and insecurities. At different points in the narrative, both choose to leave the main group, but still protect their friends when they're in danger. Finally, both experience the Dark Cave, which is created from their negative thoughts.
* Takato and Juri from ''Anime/DigimonTamers''. Both are sweet kids, with intense emotions buried deep down (intense anger for Takato; overwhelming despair for Juri). They also seem to [[MindlinkMates share a sort of psychic connection]] that lets them sense and hear each other from great distances. Both react badly to Leomon's death, which unleashes their bottled up emotions, but by the end of the series, they learn to gain better control of those emotions, which helps lead to the D-Reaper's defeat.

* ''Literature/{{Durarara}}'' has Kasuka Heiwajima and Ruri Hijiribe, both famous celebrities with [[RavenHairIvorySkin pale skin and dark hair]], and both have a stoic demeanour that hides a deep dissatisfaction to their own lives. Their relationship started out as a ruse to distract their enemies from targeting Ruri, but they later form [[BecomingTheMask genuine affection for each other]].

* In ''Literature/FullMetalPanic'', this is one of the reasons [[BigBad Gauron]] implies to be why he's Sousuke's StalkerWithACrush. In many ways, they ''are'' very similar. They're both war veterans that went through very violent, bloody battles and killed many people. They're both experts at piloting AS. They're later shown to both be working for organizations that hire mercenaries (though their organizations are always opposite and always clash with each other, making them [[ArchEnemy destined enemies]]). Of course, the main difference is that Gauron is AxCrazy and Sousuke [[TheStoic doesn't care for murdering people]].
* Rumaty and Kajika from ''Manga/HanasakeruSeishounen''. Kajika and Rumaty. They're both straightforward, headstrong, and the children of very powerful people. They also tend to inspire loyalty in others. They don't understand the implications of a man and woman visiting each others rooms in the middle of the night and sleeping in the same bed (to their guardians' chagrins). Multiple characters note that they look and act like each other. [[spoiler:It turns out that they're actually cousins]]. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking And they're both 14]].
* Although they used their similar backgrounds to create different character traits, Hinagiku and Hayate of ''Manga/HayateTheCombatButler'' have the similar pasts to make themselves candidates for this trope.

* ''Manga/IdolXIdolStory'': Mimi Nagisa is a washed-up former idol who pushed herself and her unit to excel so much that the others got fed up with her. She forms an intensely emotional bond with Ibuki Nanakusa, a currently-active idol who pushes herself and her unit so hard that the others get fed up with her. Together, these two driven young women are determined to make it as an idol duo.

** Kaguya's (Ice) persona and Ishigami are a platonic example. It's noted in the former's character profile that the two are very similar (both are isolated from their peers and have a habit of speaking their mind without thinking of the consequences), and the reason why [[MoralityPet she is significantly kinder to him than everyone else]] is because she views him as a kindred spirit and wants to guide him down the right path.

* In ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaStrikers'', Griffith and Lucino are in good terms with each other, as both have a calm and serious personality, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and purple hair]]. Their relationship is very subtle because they are just minor characters, but it's strongly implied that they have married between ''[=StrikerS=]'' and ''[[Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce FORCE]]'', as Lucino has taken Griffith's surname, Lowran.

*** Except that Banagher ISN'T a Cyber-Newtype at all, he's a perfectly natural one. All Marida said was that they might [[NotSoDifferentRemark not be that different]], after all Banagher saw inside of Marida and saw that her life was full of sadness (She survived the first Neo Zeon war only to be prostituted and subjected to constant abuse and abortions, until Suberoa saved her). It's more than likely that Marida saw similar trauma in Banagher's life (Thus far the anime suggested [[spoiler:his parents doctored his memories]], he was taken away from his father when he was young and then his mother died and left him alone). Nothing in the anime has suggested that Banagher is a cyber-newtype and in fact [[spoiler:the novels explicitly state that Cyber-Newtypes (like Frontal) cannot activate the La+ system or open Laplace's box]].

** Naruto and Hinata's romantic relationship may seem unlikely at first glance due to their contrasting personalities and combat styles. However, their mutual friends, including [[ShipperOnDeck Lee, Sakura, Kiba and Shino]], have observed more similarities than differences between them. Growing up, Naruto and Hinata faced discrimination and setbacks due to their respective backgrounds, but they share qualities such as perseverance, loyalty, and self-doubt. According to [[AllThereInTheManual the databooks]] and ''[[Literature/KonohaHidenThePerfectDayForAWedding Konoha Hiden]]'', they both have a fondness for red bean soup and a love for preserving plant life. Interestingly, their signature colors, Orange and Purple, are connected by the "{{Red String Of Fate}}" on the [[https://web.archive.org/web/20170929145745/https://designcode.io/cloud/chapter1/Colors-Wheel.png color wheel]]. Despite living in a world where empathy is often looked down upon, Naruto and Hinata can empathize with others, which has been instrumental in their evolution from friends to romantic partners. Sakura and Tsunade's conversation in ''[[Literature/SakuraHidenThoughtsOfLoveRidingUponASpringBreeze Sakura Hiden]]'' revealed that Naruto and Hinata's adaptable dynamic with one another is what makes their relationship work.

** In both ''XY'' and ''SM'' sagas, Ash have this with Korrina and Lillie, respectively, but non-romantic (Uh, [[ShipTease probably]]).
* In ''Manga/PopcornAvatar'', Ren/Agni states the real reason why Lisa/Vayu and Amano/Indra tolerate each other is because they're both violent and have rotten personalities to begin with.

** Tsuna and Kyoko aren't really very different in personality. They're both determined, both naive and good-natured, and both are very oblivious to other character's feelings for them (In Kyoko's case, Tsuna's feelings for her; In Tsuna's case, Haru and Gokudera's feelings for him). It doesn't help that due to ArtEvolution, Tsuna and Kyoko are now practically twins, as shown in Chapter 237.

** Not only Tsuna and Enma, their Famiglias in general are in good terms with each other and have a lot in common. Gokudera and Shit P. find the other one weird and strange, Yamamoto and Kaoru love baseball, Ryohei and Koyo are boxing freaks. Only Hibari and Adelheid subvert this trope; both of them are similar to each other, but they also don't like each other.

* In ''Manhwa/ThreadsOfTime'', Atan Hadas falls in love with protagonist Moon-Bin because (due to being from the future) he is open-minded about women's rights, kind hearted, and dislikes unnecessary violence. They're both [[OneOfTheBoys tomboys]], both have a strong interest in martial arts, and have trained together/[[FriendlyRivalry competed against each other]] since childhood. Right down to both being combat waitresses and both strive to test themselves in the VG ring.

* Judai/[[DubNameChange Jaden]] and Johan/[[DubNameChange Jesse]] from ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'' are so similar, they become quickly best friends. At some point Judai basically even abandons his other friends only to save Johan. [[spoiler:Too bad Johan dies anyway]].
* Yusei and Bruno from ''Anime/YuGiOh5Ds'' become quickly friends because both of them have a high know-how about technology and they are mechanics. Bruno is also basically Yusei's Johan.

* The relationship between ComicBook/GreenArrow and ComicBook/BlackCanary can often come across as this, at least when the two are written well. They're both on the low-end of the power scale among the Justice League yet manage to maintain a major position (and have both been singled out to act as moral centres for the team), are both blonde and have similar physical attributes (including even sharing the same rare blood type), and they're both left-leaning in their politics (with Oliver being an outspoken liberal and social justice crusader, and Dinah being a vocal feminist, and both being sex-positive). Their biggest difference is their fighting styles, as they invert GuysSmashGirlsShoot.
* Amusingly enough their AlternateCompanyEquivalent, ComicBook/{{Hawkeye}} and ComicBook/{{Mockingbird}} also follow a similar trend. They two are both blonde with similar attributes, are DeadpanSnarker types with a hot-headed streak and have a DarkAndTroubledPast each, and are both BadassNormal yet once lead the Avengers' spin-off team West Coast Avengers. PlayedWith though, as they've also got a fair share of OppositesAttract qualities (Bobbi is a PHD holder, Clint is a high school dropout and teen runaway, they have completely opposing views on ThouShaltNotKill, and like the above, they're an inverted case of GuysSmashGirlsShoot).
* This was a recurring theme in the first issue of ''Heroes, Anonymous'', where former sidekick Attaboy's struggles to make it as a solo hero are helped when he discovers a kindred spirit, Lynn, who eventually becomes his girlfriend as they bond over an old sitcom from the 80s, "Birds of a Feather." Except Lynn is easily the quirkiest living being on the planet (she's absolutely obsessed with Birds of a Feather and the only music she listens to is whale songs), while Attaboy's attitude is something along the lines of ICouldaBeenAContender.
* ComicBook/ScottPilgrim and Ramona Flowers turns out to be pretty similar when it comes to their flaws (though Ramona's actions are worse than Scott's, balanced out by her appearing more on the ball at first glance). It comes to a head in Volume 6, when Ramona tells Scott what she did during their separation -- exactly what Scott did: moping around, watching reruns and the like. Scott's friends declare them the perfect couple, although it has less to do with them being perfect for each other and more like they ''deserve'' each other.
* [[ComicBook/TheLifeAndTimesOfScroogeMcDuck Scrooge McDuck's]] sister Hortense was well-known for her short-temper and outbursts of anger. So was Quackmore Duck. When they first meet, they get in horrible argument...and immediately fall in love. Needless to say, this quality gets passed down to [[WesternAnimation/DonaldDuck their son]].

* ''ComicBook/TheInternship'': [[spoiler: As Volume 3 reveals, River and Cooper fit this trope very well, sharing much of the same issues and flaws. Both are quick to emotion, both are quick to be aroused, and both can be pretty hypocritical. The two of them also have issues tracing back to their sexualities (Coop with accepting he’s into guys and River facing isolation for identifying as transgender), and both know what it means to be an outcast. The two of them manage to get along (after Coop finally realizes how alike they are) quite well, and even have sex at the start of Volume 4.]]

* ''Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm'' has Harry and Carol, who're both HotBlooded, both love flying, both prone to ChronicHeroSyndrome, both prone to often quite dark [[DeadpanSnarker sarcasm]], and both extremely protective of people they care for. They spend the latter half of the first book and the second book dancing around each other, flirting at more or less every conceivable opportunity - [[FlirtingUnderFire up to and including in the midst of battle]] - and then vociferously denying it, even though EveryoneCanSeeIt (literally, everyone). All that keeps them apart, really, are their mutual issues. [[spoiler: They get together in chapter 46 of the sequel.]]

*** Later in ''R2'', he finds similarities between himself and Leila. Both are former Britannian elites that are leading campaigns against their forsaken homeland for its discriminatory and sanctimonious regime. In addition, their teams primarily consist of Japanese that have been oppressed by Britannia, have Geass granted to them by C.C., and have romantic feelings for a pilot in their ranks (Kallen for Lelouch and Akito for Leila).
** Being the compassionate and idealistic Autobot that he always is, Optimus Prime hits it off quickly with Euphemia, and later Nunnally.

** Grindcore and Suzaku bond in ''R2'' over being former Decepticons that wish to redeem themselves.

** Knock Out and Lloyd get along surprisingly well in ''R1'', as both are rather eccentric scientists that enjoy experimenting.
** Milly and Kaguya get along as well, especially when discussing ‘harem’ talks involving Lelouch, Rai and Suzaku, much to the boys’ embarrassment.

* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11886910/1/Gankona-Unnachgiebig-Unità Gankona, Unnachgiebig, Unità]]'' does this for Italy and Japan. Despite having vastly different personalities, they both liked literature, anime, manga, fencing, food, and cats. They both even cosplayed as Light Yagami and Teru Mikami respectively from ''Manga/DeathNote''. To say Germany wasn't pleased at this would be a ''massive'' understatement.

** After the Crisis, Luke Cage, Jefferson Pierce and T'Challa talk about their responsibilities as heroes of colour.

** The driving force behind Lindsay and Justin' relationship is that both were astounded at finding someone else as hot/gorgeous as themselves.

* ''Fanfic/TheManyDatesOfDannyFenton'': Danny finds plenty of his dates share similarities with him that helps him bond with them. Whether it's a double life like with WesternAnimation/KimPossible or [[Franchise/SailorMoon Makoto Kino]], feelings of longing or heartbreak like with Emma from ''WesternAnimation/{{Stoked}} or [[Franchise/TheIncredibles Violet Parr]], or being a superhero like Kara or Kitty.
** [[spoiler: After being honest on his profile, Tucker finds a date with [[Franchise/ScoobyDoo Velma Dinkley]], both of whom are geeky sidekicks]].

* ''Fanfic/TheNightUnfurls'' has [[PlatonicLifePartners Kyril and Evetta]]. One is a [[HunterOfMonsters hunter of beasts]], the other is a [[CreepyHousekeeper creepy]]/[[KindlyHousekeeper kindly housekeeper]], the two actually resemble each other a lot despite their different roles. Both are [[TheStoic stoic]], soft-spoken characters with [[TheHermit a preference for peace, quiet, and solitude]]. They are both very dedicated and task-oriented, to the point where Kyril himself notes that she has a stubborn streak that could match his when a task has to be done. Both of them appear to be lifeless, which makes them all the more unsettling when combined with their serenity, yet have the capacity for kindness. Most importantly, they are arguably the only ones that have full knowledge of Yharnam and its secrets. [[spoiler:And there is also the fact that both of them are not human, while possessing tremendous power. To be precise, Kyril is a [[HumanoidAbomination humanoid]]-[[EldritchAbomination great one]], while Evetta is a [[CreepyDoll living doll]] with an [[LovecraftianSuperpower "ancient power"]], whatever that entails...]]

* In [[http://archiveofourown.org/works/5409086/chapters/12496637 Slice of Souls!]], the sequel to ''Fanfic/HotspringSouls'', Solaire and Lady Maria turn out to be this. Maria initially can't stand Solaire, but the two bond over an [[DuetBonding impromptu jazz piano and drums jam session]] and things only get better from there. [[spoiler:They're also both runaways from rich, controlling families: Solaire from the House of Gwyn, and Maria from the Cainhurst Family]].

* ''Fanfic/ThreeCanKeepASecret'': [[WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil Star Butterfly]] and [[WesternAnimation/GravityFalls Pacifica Northwest]] find each other very relatable due to their shared backgrounds as the children of powerful, upper-class parents who raised them very strictly in order to mold them into suitable heirs, as well as their shared desire to experience more personal freedom and rectify the unethical actions traditionally practiced by their families. As a result, they come quick friends and close confidants.
* ''Fanfic/ASeriesOfFortunateEvents'': Saki Yoshida forged a strong friendship with a woman named Chinami based on their similarities, like the fact that they are both single mothers who their parents threw out. And the fact that Chinami is a warm, kind-hearted person who offered Saki friendship when she first moved to the apartment complex also helped.

* ''Fanfic/TheFlowerPrincessAndTheAlchemist'' has this for [[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist Edward]] and [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Orihime]]. [[OppositesAttract Given their temperament and personalities]], they may not appear that way at first, but [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Ed]] and [[AllLovingHeroine Orihime]] have quite a few things in common. Both are [[HeartwarmingOrphan orphans]]. Both a have displayed bouts of ChronicHeroSyndrome. Both are {{Big Eater}}s. Both are [[PluckyGirl stubborn]] and [[{{Determinator}} determined]] when it comes to helping the people they love. Both are pacifists, ie. TechnicalPacifist and ActualPacifist, respectively. Both suffer from some sort of GuiltComplex. Despite their [[TheNapoleon outward apperances]] [[CloudCuckooLander and dispositions]], both display levels of [[HeroicSelfDeprecation doubts and insecurities]]. Both are InsecureLoveInterest. And both are [[TwiceShy shy and awkward when it comes to romance]].

* In the 2015 ''WesternAnimation/StrangeMagic,'' Marianne, a fairy princess, and the King of the Goblins may ''look'' like opposites but over the course of the movie they bond over fighting, past heartbreaks, and their complete abhorrence to love. [[spoiler:And then they fall for each other]].

* ''Film/JasonsLyric'': Jason and Lyric have a lot in common; having a toxic/troubled sibling and dream to run away for a better life. Lyric has been aware of what she has always wanted, on the contrary it takes a while for Jason to realize his deepest desire to be free and happy.

** Creator/JohnLeCarre's conception of Bond adds another element to this. Le Carre disliked Bond and said he's perfect traitor material.[[note]]In case you're wondering, it is the fact that Bond is materialistic, neo-fascistic and completely divorced from any political context. There is the sense that he would have worked for any country as long as the girls were pretty and the martinis dry, obviously a rather negative trait as a spy.[[/note]] (He actually worked in [=MI6=], so he'd probably know.) [[spoiler:Vesper is in fact a traitor]].

*** Mutants in general are thrilled to meet another mutants since each one believes they were the only one. The adolescents are then "adopted" by Charles and Erik.

*** Scott Summers and Jean are able to relate to each other when their other classmates look down on them because of the uncontrollable nature of their powers, and gradually, their friendship deepens. Throughout the movie, Jean is emotionally supportive to the newcomer Scott, which mirrors their psychic rapport in the comics.

** This goes at least as far back as ''Literature/PrideAndPrejudice'' and ''Literature/SenseAndSensibility'', and possibly even as far as her first written novel, ''Susan'', later retitled ''Literature/NorthangerAbbey''.

** Sweet, reserved and morally upright Fanny and Edmund in ''Literature/MansfieldPark'', due to growing up LikeBrotherAndSister... in conclusion, Jane Austen loves this trope and TeacherStudentRomance.

** Shirley is a sweet girl that loves animals, teaching magic to others and drawing. Her boyfriend, Tommy, is a young Wizard of the Light that is very patient and caring towards others, and loves drawing portraits.

*** Honor Harrington and [[spoiler:Thomas Theisman]], in a bond which is finally blossoming after twenty years of mutual wary respect.

** Katniss and Haymitch also have this, but in their case it's deconstructed; while they do care deeply about each other, their respective similarities cause them to bicker a lot and even take out their own self-hatred on each other.
* Ward of ''Literature/{{Hurog}}'' is immediately smitten with Tisala, who is tall, strong, and visibly a warrior. They are both very tall people, with brown cow eyes. When she mocks his eyes, he counters with a stealth-insult against hers, but it's all in good fun. [[spoiler:They end up together]].

** Ravenpaw and Barley are a platonic ([[HoYay/WarriorCats ?]]) example of the trope. Both characters are peaceful, introverted toms who experienced childhood trauma. They share the same 'happy ending': living out their days on a peaceful, isolated farm, with no-one to worry about but each other.

* John Sheridan and Ambassador Delenn from ''Series/BabylonFive'', whose interest in each other quickly begins to heat up when they discover that they share not only a gift for military and political strategy, but an innate curiosity about other races.
* ''Series/{{Bridgerton}}'': How Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma connect to one another. They were both forced to be the [[PromotedToParent dutiful head of their family following their fathers' sudden death]] and had to ensure their younger siblings' futures. During an emotionally tense moment, Anthony specifically points out the sacrifices they've made due to their family headships and how they deserve to do what ''they'' want for once.

** Chandler and Monica seem to be OppositesAttract at first glance, (he's a laid-back, snarky, commitment phobe, she's a uptight control freak desperate for a serious relationship), however the moment you glance below the surface they're very similar. They both suffered [[ParentalNeglect difficult childhoods]], are very neurotic, insecure but hugely loyal, value trust and stability, and essentially hold their circle of friends together. The key is that while their ''reactions'' are different, their issues are similar and so they can understand each other. (Which is very much TruthInTelevision.) This conversation sums up their shared issues well:

** Ross and Julie, Ross and Mona, Ross and Charlie and even Ross and Emily are also this. (Contrasting with [[OppositesAttract Rachel]].)

** When Lord Bolton and Locke return to the Dreadfort in the second episode of Season Four, it's immediately clear that Locke and Ramsay are friends, each being a reckless {{sadist}} who delight in random torture, rape, and murder.

* ''Series/HouseOfTheDragon'': Corlys Velaryon recruits Daemon to join him in opposing the Crab Feeder against Viserys's orders by citing their common Valyrian heritage, interest in defending the realm, and as second sons who had to make their word worthwhile rather than simply give it. Daemon is more skeptical and dismissive of their supposed likeness, but agrees to help him nonetheless.

** Blutbad too. Granted with the wolf like nature of their species it is safe to say it is similar to how pack mentality works. It's natural for them to gravitate toward one another as in the case of Monroe, Angelina, Hap and Rolf.

* In the first season of ''Series/HowIMetYourMother'', Barney tries to seduce Robin, saying that "we both [[CommitmentIssues think commitment's a drag]], we want something fun and casual, and we clearly get along". They didn't get together then, but jump to season four, where they're firmly in WillTheyOrWontThey Land. By season eight, [[spoiler:they are engaged with season 9 about their wedding. It's ultimately deconstructed however, as most of their relationship problems come from them being too similar. They break up in season 5 for this very reason, and the GrandFinale reveals that they got divorced after only three years of marriage]].
** More so in season 9 but we see how alike Ted and the titular Mother are. Both are the NiceGuy and NiceGal, have driving gloves, knows facts that only each other would find interesting/funny and loves going roadside to see obscure things. And [[spoiler:the Mother's FirstLove Max died in 2005 (the same time Ted met Robin), leaving her unable to move on in any relationship]], similar to what had happened with Ted and Robin.

* ''Series/LessonsInChemistry'': Calvin and Elizabeth are both socially awkward geniuses, and so they bond and fall in love quickly after the misunderstanding of their first meeting is cleared up.

* In ''Series/ParksAndRecreation'' despite the upbeat [[ThePollyanna Leslie]] being put off by [[TheCynic Ben's]] initial iciness it's quickly revealed they're both incredible dorks and very competent, driven government employees who just want to make the world a better place. (Amongst other things they're both masters at Model UN and roleplay political figures in their sex life.) Their surface difference also dwindle in time, as Ben loses his cynicism and Leslie becomes marginally more realistic.
* Jack O'Neill did poke fun of it in an episode of ''Series/StargateSG1''. "It has to do with flocking... and togetherness."

** Stefan and Elena. Both are compassionate, selfless, and caring and have various different tastes, hobbies and interests in common.
* ''Series/TheWilds'': Nora and Quinn were very much alike (they're implied to both have autism). She was instantly attracted to him on seeing he shared her difficulty with social interaction. They got into a relationship, but eventually broke up.

** This is also why you can pair up Chrom with Olivia, despite the lack of time they spend together (which is even lampshaded as a "whirlwind romance"). They're both incredably kind-hearted people who wrestle with using violence, but they're also extensively prone to social awkwardness in an endearing way.

** Rather hilariously subverted with Henry and Tharja. Both are very strange-minded Dark Mages who ''love'' fighting out there, but he's a PerpetualSmiler and she's a PerpetualFrowner -- meaning, they're both this ''and'' OppositesAttract. And yet Tharja says they swear by this trope if they hook up, since they're not the most normal people anyway.
** Lucina and the male Avatar (aka [[CanonName Robin]]) are both leaders capable of inspiring trust and love among their comrades, according to Tiki. They are also both extremely loyal, levelheaded, self-sacrificing and humble {{Workaholic}}s who are great at thinking on the fly, treasure the bonds between them and their comrades deeply, are very close to [[TheHero Chrom]], and have a huge effect on the future of their world.
*** Lucina is also similar to Gerome in that they both only shine on the battlefield, and they both show a very aloof demeanor early on due to their beliefs that they shouldn't meddle too deep with the events of the timeline. They even both wear masks, though Lucina doesn't keep hers for long. Gerome, however, notes that Lucina is a better leader than he is.
** [[LargeHam Owain]] and [[{{Hotblooded}} Cynthia]] both are bombastic hero types who play it up for the sake of morale, the only difference in the how (Owain trying to come off as edgy while Cynthia going ForGreatJustice.)

** Once Hayato stops [[RunningGag running away from Oboro]], they bond over having been orphaned at early ages.
** Niles and Beruka are both [[spoiler:former street urchins who were abandoned by their mothers, raised by crooked people, and wound up in the services of royals after a failed assassination (Beruka) or a failed attempt to rob Castle Krackenburg (Niles). It's also revealed that their mothers are buried in the same graveyard]].

* ''VideoGame/Persona4'': This is the main reason why the main character and Yosuke get along so well. Both of them are defined by their childhoods of moving around a lot and thus not having the chance to make friends and struggling with loneliness. They enjoy looking out for the others' well-being, have a strong sense of morale and are noted for being reliable, though given Yosuke's is the protagonist's BromanticFoil, it means that he's treated more in a clownish sort of way with his own faults which makes the protagonist look better.
** Yosuke and Chie also fit this: Both of them are very insecure of themselves because of their perceived lack of specialness (which becomes more noticeable with the rest of the Investigation Team) and not fitting in with the others. Both enjoy being relied on as a result of this insecurity. Additionally, both of them share a close bond with their best friends up to HoYay and LesYay levels yet they also have buried resentment toward their best friends, something they are ashamed of: Chie's Shadow was based on her resentment to Yukiko being popularity, traditionally pretty and smart. Yosuke resents the protagonist for just being better and adapting easier, to where he asks the protagonist to punch him to get it out of him.) In fact, they're each other's closest friends after their best friends (with Yosuke being Chie's first real friend after Yukiko and Chie being Yosuke's first friend when he moved). In fact, given how they are VitriolicBestBuds, they may be aware of this and the vitriol comes from the fact that they've met someone they could identify with so closely. Fanon takes it further and views as BelligerentSexualTension, though give how [[ShipperOnDeck Rise assumed them to be a couple and paired them up together while Yukiko admits they'd make a cute couple]], some of their friends have this view.
* In ''VideoGame/Persona5'', the Phantom Thieves come together, united by ASharedSuffering and a desire to rebel against the powers-that-be and invoke change in society. Their numbers include the cat-like being who helps teach them the tools of the Phantom Thieving trade, a young man unjustly stuck with a criminal record from a corrupt politician, two classmates who were both victimized by the same abusive teacher, an art prodigy whose mentor and guardian plagiarized his work, the StudentCouncilPresident who had been forced to do dirty work for a less-than-upstanding principal, a {{Hikkikomori}} who had been gaslit by TheConspiracy into thinking she drove her mother to suicide, and the daughter of a business mogul who is forcing her into an ArrangedMarriage for political clout [[spoiler:plus the bastard son of the head of the conspiracy.]]

* Ahri and Yasuo in ''VideoGame/RuinedKing'' are both from Ionia and both deeply affected by their past - Ahri for killing a past lover due to her HorrorHunger and Yasuo for killing his brother and abandoning his home. Throughout the game, they realize they need to move on from their past and to not let past sins control who they are now in the present and they bond quite closely because of it.
* ''VideoGame/SlyCooper'' shows Bentley and Penelope to be this. Both are glasses-wearing techno geniuses with a strong desire to use their skills to improve society, and are both secretly quite competent fighters. Even Sly agrees, pointing out that they're made for each other and he even envies their relationship, which contrasts with [[SlapSlapKiss him and Carmelia]]. [[spoiler:But alas, in ''VideoGame/SlyCooperThievesInTime'', it's exploited and subverted on Penelope's part as it turns out that she is actually Bentley's EvilCounterpart and ShadowArchetype. Similar to Hans in ''[[WesternAnimaion/Frozen2013 Frozen]]'', Penelope faked her romance with Bentley to get his trust and skills to develop weapons of mass destruction for profit, and then TakeOverTheWorld, her real goal. Also, when she reveals her true colors, their similarities turn out to be either superficial (Penelope being a ruthless and power-hungry woman, while Bentley would rather share his life with his sworn brothers Sly and Murray) or feigned on her part (Penelope couldn't care less about Bentley's feelings or goals, and feels that she owns him)]].
* In ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles3'', the six protagonists are matched into three pairings after becoming Ouroboros. Of these pairings, [[TheBigGuy Lanz]] and [[PintSizedPowerhouse Sena]], the most physically powerful of their respective sides, seem the most quick of everyone to bond with one another, even in the face of Lanz's initial distrust of the Agnian party members. Both are revealed to be insecure despite their bravado, and [[https://youtu.be/odNyB8HmxU0 resolve to grow together to overcome it]].

* In ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'', it's implied that some Masters will receive Servants similar to themselves; For example, our hero Shirou has ChronicHeroSyndrome, and his Servant Saber [[spoiler:aka Arthuria Pendragon]] in life sacrificed everything, even her emotional state as a human, for her country. In the prequel ''Literature/FateZero'', the serial killer Ryuunosuke Uryu ends up paired with the demon-summoning Caster [[spoiler:aka Gilles de Rais]], who enjoys killing just as much as his Master does. However there are ways to get around this- the more adept mages of ''Zero'' are able to summon specific spirits by using specific items closely related to the Hero, leading to the arrogant and scheming Lord El-Melloi summoning the honorable knight Lancer, or TokenMiniMoe Ilya in ''Stay Night'' getting the mountain of muscles and rage that is Berserker, though that may be due to the Servants preferences - Lancer wanted a lord to serve and redeem his honor, and Berserker, in life, [[spoiler:was mind-controlled into killing his daughter]].

* In Creator/AGnosis works, Persephone and Hades are this. They both hate social gatherings (and most people), like to have lots of alone-time, and have shades under their eyes. Their romance becomes evident to other people when Persephone says she thinks Hades is "okay". With his high praise, coming from her.
* In ''Webcomic/DearChildren'', as befitting its protagonists being a group of teenage misfits, in some cases there are obvious similarities between characters which make close friendship and even romance plausible.

** Chelle, Emma and Josh are highly-intelligent: Chelle excels at verbal/reading/writing skills; Emma at mathematical and probably spatial reasoning; Josh at social skills and animal handling.

** Cailin and Gabe share a love of fantasy, which Cailin expresses as an obsession with ghosts and Gabe of anime/manga (they are both fans of Japanese series about the supernatural).

** Roxy and John are both goofy, fun loving, unironically cheerful, and loyal leaders of their respective teams. [[spoiler:They're also the only survivors of the Game Over Timeline, and seem to get together in the aftermath]].

* Yun-lee and Dong-whi in ''Webcomic/NineteenTwentyOne'' who are both mad about cats and looking after the local strays.

** [[TomboyAndGirlyGirl Vi and Caitlyn]]. Initially, it seems that the two fit the OppositesAttract mold given their contrasting backgrounds, dissimilar temperaments, and surface level opposing differences. And the couple even believe they would have nothing in common when they first meet. However, as they spend more time together and their relationship grows, it becomes increasingly evident how very much alike the duo are - In general, both of them are noble, brave, loyal, selfless, protective, and ultimately good-hearted individuals; have been in different types of isolation (Vi was unjustly sent to prison as a teen; Caitlyn has been [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer ostracized]] from her peers and her parents, especially her mother, want her in a metaphorical GildedCage); they each value trust in whatever relationship they have; highly skilled in their respective areas (Vi with boxing; Caitlyn with marksmanship); are often unfairly judged by others because of their backgrounds (Vi is thought of as just a lowly criminal; Caitlyn is thought of as a entitled, RichBitch); and both are actively determined to rid Zaun of the unfair and brutal treatment from within (i.e., Silco, Sevika) and Piltover's corrupt government.

* Jack and Maddie in ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom''. True, one is closer to Earth then the other (three guesses on who the obvious culprit is), but they both share a mad obsessive love for hunting/researching the paranormal field of ghosts.

** It pays off better in Season 3 when Bolin meets Opal, Lin Beifong's niece, who's just as adorkable and kind hearted as he is.

** In season 8, the stoic and dull Maud Pie who likes rocks has Mud Briar, who has the same personality as her, with his interests being sticks. In the finale, her jovial and hyperactive, party-loving sister Pinkie, settles down and has formed a family with the equally jovial and party-loving Cheese Sandwich.
* WesternAnimation/SheRaAndThePrincessesOfPower: Hordak and Entrapta look like extreme opposites - he’s a tall, straight-laced, bad -tempered clone of an unknown alien species while she is a small, cheerful human princess with a complete disregard for rules. However, they bond over their mutual loneliness, scientific interests, disabilities (Entrapta is autistic while Hordak has a degenerative disease)and rejection issues. During S4, both are dragged back to their original positions because they might be useful for the opposite sides of the war. Hordak has to fit in among the other clones again with all vestiges of his personality wiped out and is under the permanent threat of a new reconditioning; Entrapta has to fit in the Rebellion again and to repress her quirks to not irritate the other princesses, who haven’t forgiven her time in the Horde. [[spoiler: Things get better for her, but she is still has little respect and eventually bonds with an adopted clone called "Wrong Hordak" until the real Hordak returns.]]
** Catra and Glimmer have a lot in common, which explains how easily they bonded during their captivity at Velvet Grove. Both are smart but reckless, hot-headed, sassy and, although Glimmer is not as mean as Catra, she is not above of using dirty tricks, too. Both have crippling unsureness mixed with a strong desire to proof themselves; and when they finally occupy a position of power, they don’t know exactly what to do with them, committing one wrong decision after another. And also, both feel amused at Adora’s antics, although they call them annoying.
* In the ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' episode "The Last Temptation Of Homer", Homer meet Mindy Simmons, a new employee at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant who is a DistaffCounterpart of him, except attractive. But despite their attraction to each other, Homer decides to remain with Marge.

* While they never got together, and firmly remain as JustFriends, this is the most likely reason for why Rogue was attracted to Scott in ''WesternAnimation/XMenEvolution''. Both have dangerous, uncontrollable powers, both lived sheltered lives, and have an older sibling like dynamic with younger students.

** Naruto and Hinata. Despite having different personalities and fighting styles, they're very similar to each other, as pointed out by [[ShipperOnDeck Lee, Sakura, Kiba and Shino]]. Both are considered failures by everyone around them, both suffer because of the respective statuses they have carried since birth, and both want to be acknowledged and accepted. Both are really nice, dorky, determined, loyal, and insecure. According to [[AllThereInTheManual the databooks]] and ''[[Literature/KonohaHidenThePerfectDayForAWedding Konoha Hiden]]'', both like to eat red bean soup and preserve their plants. Their respective signature colors--Orange and Purple--share the common color {{Red|StringOfFate}} on the [[https://web.archive.org/web/20170929145745/https://designcode.io/cloud/chapter1/Colors-Wheel.png color wheel]]. Finally, both are incredibly empathetic, despite living in a world where that trait is easily looked down upon. This is one of the reasons why they develop a strong friendship that grows into love.

* Fanfic/TheEchoRanger: Izuku and Melissa are both Quirkless teenagers who admire heroes and are among the few True Believers of the Power Rangers. They also descend from families of Rangers (though Izuku was unaware of this at first) and they both have a great drive to be heroes to help people. Both also have a tendency to break into mumbling when they get excited about something.

** Rocket and Mick end up forming a bond due to their status as outsiders

* In the ''Series/{{Castle}}''/''Series/{{Sherlock}}'' crossover “[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8539503/1/The-Case-Of-The-Maybe-Moriarty The Case of the Maybe Moriarty]]”, Castle and Watson in particular have a moment where they muse on their status as ‘Enablers Anonymous’, tolerating the investigative brilliance of their respective partners even at the cost of their social lives.

* ''Fanfic/ThreeCanKeepASecret'' [[WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil Star Butterfly]] and [[WesternAnimation/GravityFalls Pacifica Northwest]] find each other very relatable due to their shared background as the children of powerful, upper class parents who raised them very strictly in order to mold them into suitable heir as well as their shared desire to experience more personal freedom and rectify the unethical actions traditionally practiced by their families. As a result, they come quick friends and close confidants.

* Subverted with Barry Allen and Felicity Smoak from ''Series/{{Arrow}}'' and ''Series/TheFlash2014''. They're extremely alike -- both are adorkable, excitable, optimistic, and intelligent -- but they're LikeBrotherAndSister. In ''The Flash'' Barry admits that they would be perfect for each other if they weren't too busy pining over other people.
