* Uriel is an important recurring character in Literature/TheDresdenFiles from Small Favor onwards, as an ally, mentor and sort-of-almost-employer of the main character. He is the guardian of free will and Heaven's assassin, spook, spymaster and doer of the gritty jobs, such as the historical slaying of the First Born of Egypt. He's given a lot more room to work than the other Archangels and is seen as the most subtle amongst them, and (because of this) Badass the most dangerous. Mab likes his style. Don't call him 'Uri'.The "-el" is the part of his name that refers to God, so he's naturally a bit touchy about having it left off. ("Mr. Sunshine" is acceptable.) Oh, and he's also possibly the most powerful character Harry's encountered. Uriel admitted to having the power to destroy galaxies. Only the oldest of the fae, Mother Winter and Mother Summer, might be able to match his power. He is a XanatosGambit Master, typically hitting several targets with a good single strike. It helps that he can exist outside the human perspective of linear time, and knows the minor good things Harry did on one mission would ripple into far greater goods, like making a mother realize her husband is abusing their kids and escapes, which will break the cycle of abuse, or stopping a construction worker who is drunk on duty from working. He would have died and in a few months, his child would need a kidney and he would have been the only viable donor. To say nothing of how Harry saved Michael on that mission from the man's own darker emotions.

His name means 'God is my Light'. Given the similarities with "Lucifer" (which means "light bringer" in Latin), and the fact that several early theology texts actually stated Uriel was "condemned to Hell" may lead works to equate the two together though the book of Enoch lists him among the angels who requested permission from God to intervene on humanity's behalf against the fallen angels (Michael gets to do it) suggesting he was a positive force for awhile even if he did go astray. The Catholic Church decided he is still a good guy.

He's one of the angels in non-canon lore and is alternately described as either Kerubim or Seraphim and is often referred to as the Angel of the Presence. Legend says that he stands at the gate of the Lost Eden with a fiery sword and he was attributed as being the angel who warned Noah of the impending flood. Although Uriel was accepted as an archangel by the church for centuries he was finally removed in AD 745, along with a host of other angels, because the church was growing concerned about a growing fixation and importance placed by the public in angels.
