Kairi, on the other hand, had been safe on the island that whole time, Sora knew where she was, knew she was safe. While she does get kidnapped, it was only for a few days, and her whereabouts were still known.[[/note]]

When the two of them regain their humanity in ''3D'', they are seen in the same room where Lea wakes up. Everyone else seemed to have gone elsewhere, but those two are good pals enough to not be separated.

** Vanille and Fang from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII'' could qualify as this even though many fans consider them to be AmbiguouslyGay. However the nature of their relationship is not really elaborated upon despite the HoYay.
** Noctis, Ignis, Gladio, and Prompto are a four-way version of this in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXV'', where they all travel together almost throughout the entire game.

* Even though they don't last a life time, the King of Red Lions of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker'', Ezlo from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheMinishCap'' and Linebeck from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaPhantomHourglass'' could easily fit as Link's partners.
* Well, more this one involves than two perhaps, as [[VideoGame/StarFox Star Wolf]] is a trio of male mercenaries who have shared their lives together, being Wolf, Leon and Panther. Also, it is hinted that Wolf and Leon have been together longer, going way before the events of Star Fox 64...though well...Leon seems to be enjoying his partner for sadomasochism.
* In ''VideoGame/{{Shadowverse}}'', Arisa has this kind of relationship with Losaria. Her story arc revolves around trying to rescue her.

** Sonic and Tails, to the point that games that also make Tails playable within normal 2D platformer often also have the option to have him follow Sonic throughout the levels whether controlled by the second player or by the AI, an option usually, but not always, enabled by default. Even within games where he isn't playable, Tails often acts as the deuteragonist even if almost none of the other main cast appear in the game simply because of how close he is to Sonic the Hedgehog.
** The 8-bit version of ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2'' even has Tails become a BadassInDistress due to Dr. Eggman kidnapping him. The (non-canon) bad ending shows Sonic being heavily disappointed at not being able to rescue Tails. Also, Tails [[spoiler:getting kidnapped and being threatened to be robotized]] within ''VideoGame/SonicLostWorld'' was the only time in within the main series where Sonic [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness momentarily lost his normally "cheerful with an attitude" personality]].

** ''ComicBook/SonicTheComic'' had Tekno and Amy. [[LesYay Most Likely]].

Their friendship is so strong that, in a DLC chapter, Cordelia almost gets into a CatFight with Maribelle over which girl has the best female friend. Not to mention, their ''possible'' [[LoveTriangle shared feelings]] for Prince Chrom ''never ever'' are an issue between them - Chrom's not even ''mentioned'' in their supports, which are all about their own bonds.

*** Additionally, Say'ri and Tiki's supports lean very heavily towards almost full on HoYay, especially given the wording of their support conversations-- You can tell the dev team really shipped them.

* ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'' has Asric and Jadaar, two [[VitriolicBestBuds perpetually bickering ex-cops]] who have moved from Shattrath City, to the [[AbsurdlySpaciousSewer Cantrips and Crows tavern under Dalaran]], to their current post at the Argent Tournament grounds since their first introduction. [[HoYay Speculation abounds]] about them.
** There's also Thassarian and Koltira, two death knights who were close friends even when they served under the Lich King. Thassarian has, on multiple occasions, gotten in trouble with his superiors for rescuing Koltira. Koltira preferred arrest for treason and torture to fighting Thassarian at the Battle of Andorhal.
** Varian and Bolvar, who were "like brothers"; Bolvar is even something of a father figure to Varian's son and helped raise him.
** Tarenar Sunstrike and Gidwin Goldbraids from the Cataclysm expansion. Also known as "The Paladin Pals". While they bicker... quite a lot, their friendship is so strong it survived the fact that Tarenar is a Horde aligned Blood Elf and Gidwin is a Dwarf and part of the Alliance and when Gidwin's impatience gets the better of him and he winds up risking becoming a Death Knight Tarenar drops everything to go rescue him.
** Anren Shadowseeker and Tholo Whitehoof in the Firelands content. After one quest Tholo even says, "Anren and I might no longer face the terrifying risk of being separated from one another." D'aww!
** Thrall and Rehgar Earthfury. Rehgar sees Thrall as a role model and older brother of sorts, helping him to resurrect the Horde's shamanic traditions. They were the subject of a popular ship, until Thrall got married. Unfortunately, from the point of view of many fans, Rehgar has been kind of written out of the story.
** Anduin Wrynn and Wrathion, the new Aspect of the Black Dragonflight. Despite Anduin's history with the Black flight, he chooses to spend all of his time in Pandaria with Wrathion. Wrathion also shows up personally in Stormwind, risking attack from his many enemies, to warn the young High King about N'Zoth's plans: even though he knows Anduin likely blames him for Varian's death. Also the subject of a popular ship, though not a terribly serious one.
* ''Franchise/{{Persona}}'':
** ''VideoGame/Persona3'':
*** [[TheChick Yukari Takeba]] and [[{{Ojou}} Mitsuru Kirijo]] start off somewhat at odds, but become ''very'' close over by the end of the game.
*** Although they're not as close as later Magician/Fool friendships, Junpei and Makoto have a similar bond to Mitsuru and Yukari. Junpei is jealous of Makoto's strength, but Junpei gradually comes to trust and care for him.

*** Yu Narukami and Yosuke Hanamura definitely have shades of this if you develop Yosuke's social link. In point of fact, a FanNickname for Yosuke is Brosuke. Yosuke always refers to Yu as "partner", and ''VideoGame/Persona4Arena'' shows that Yu reciprocates the label.

Not only is Ryuji the protagonist’s first available confidant and friend, he noticeably appears as an alternative option in most story events that would otherwise be spent with a datable female character, even to the point that if the player choses to forego a romance route entirely, Ryuji will automatically show up on Valentine’s Day instead and give the protagonist chocolate.
* In ''VideoGame/DevilSurvivor'', Atsuro is, in spite of the game's alignment-based structure, the one party-member who will follow you no matter what.
** Same would probably go for Daichi in ''[[VideoGame/DevilSurvivor2 the sequel]]''. This kind of relationship between him and Hibiki is more apparent in ''[[Anime/DevilSurvivor2 the anime version]]'', however.
* Touka and Karura after the final boss fight in ''VideoGame/{{Utawarerumono}}''. Unfortunately for any yuri fanboys out there, they're confirmed to still be hetero, as their mutual berserk button is disrespecting their relationship with Hakuoro.
* Ryu and Ken from the ''StreetFighter'' franchise. Guile and Charlie may count too.
** Alluded to in Wreck-It-Ralph after a day of beating each-other up. Ryu and Ken act totally buddy/buddy and go off to get drinks together.

* Franchise/RatchetAndClank are also this. In fact, the "life" part is very literal, having been together for nearly the same amount of time that Clank has been conscious. Also within the series are Qwark/Skrunch, Rusty Pete/Captain Slag (although, being pirates, they may not be ''heterosexual'' life partners), and Cronk/Zephyr.
* Captains Price and [=MacTavish=] have fitten into this one in the ''VideoGame/CallOfDuty: VideoGame/ModernWarfare'' series.

** In the fanfic, it's also rather common for Canderous and Carth to come to this - despite the fact they probably ''did'' face each other from across a battlefield or two.
* In the origin stories in ''VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins'', the Mage, Dwarven Commoner, and Dalish Elf each have HeterosexualLifePartners (well...however you take it, depending on the {{PC}}'s gender) who also serve as their partners during the beginning of the game. However, they're pretty quickly forced to leave them behind when they're the only one recruited into the Grey Wardens. Depending on how the player plays their cards, they can always find another one later on in a party member, especially noticeable with a male Warden and Alistair or a female Warden and [[GayOption platonic!]]Leliana.
** A female warden can also form this kind of bond with Morrigan (she at one point refers to you as not just a friend, but a sister), but it comes with a large side of VitriolicBestBuds. This is especially obvious if you tend to be more good-aligned or are romancing Alistair.
* The ''countries'' Canada and USA in ''VideoGame/ERepublik'' have a treaty that says they will "never give up on each other, never let each other down, and never run around or desert one another."

You can't avoid losing your sibling. But you can't get rid of Varric!]] He continues to be this to a male Hawke in ''VideoGame/DragonAgeInquisition'', [[spoiler:being the only person who he kept in constant contact with for the four years he was on the run. If Hawke sacrifices himself to save the Inquisitor and a Grey Warden ally, Varric is almost completely broken by the loss of his best friend.]]

* It wouldn't be too much of a stretch for Yuri Lowell and Flynn Scifo from VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia to be this. ** Rita and Estelle develop a very close friendship over the course of the game, and the stills in the credits seem to imply that they eventually become this, as they appear to be either visiting each other or living together in Halure. The only contention is [[HoYay they]] [[PortmanteauCoupleName have]] [[{{Tsundere}} even]] [[ShipperOnDeck more]] [[SayMyName romantic]] [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend subtext]] than Yuri and Flynn.
* Jade and Peony in ''VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss''. Jade is Peony's unofficial right-hand man. Peony's named a rappig after him, they're childhood friends, and Peony seems to be the only person on the planet who can out-snark Jade. He also occasionally calls him [[HoYay "my" Jade,]] but, uh, don't think too hard about that. Peony's [[spoiler: in love with Jade's sister, we swear.]]
** Luke and Guy from the same game would also probably fit the bill. Guy has been serving Luke since they were both very young, and he is the only one who [[spoiler: goes back for Luke after Luke destroys Akzeriuth.]] You can even get a scene were Guy swears his UndyingLoyalty to Luke.
* ''VideoGame/GoldenSunDarkDawn'' shows this to be Isaac and Garet's relationship. They live in a cabin away from any settlements, their wives are nowhere in sight, they raised their sons together, and they spend the entire opening sequence acting LikeAnOldMarriedCouple.
* Sonny and Veradux of the flash game series ''VideoGame/{{Sonny}}'' are definitely this, at least by game 2, where during the opening cutscene Vera shows genuine concern when Sonny has a flashback to the events that started the first game (part of which is a tutorial if you choose to play it when starting a new game in 2), and is quickly on his feet with his weapon at the ready when Felicity decides to use Sonny as a parking space for her motorcycle, but he gets a knife thrown into his face before he can fire a shot.
