** The first thing Cosette does with the doll is to place it down a chair, then sit in front of the chair and just look at the doll. Valjean asks if she wants to play with it. She says this ''is'' playing.

* At the very end of the show, after the stage lights have gone out, and the curtain falls [[hottip:*:(although they're frequently put out by the stage crew within seconds, and with good reason)]], the candlesticks that the Bishop of Digne gave to Valjean are all the lights that are left, burning in the darkness, as though forever - just a reminder of what power one man's kindness can have. *snif*

\n* When Valjean and Cosette are living on Rue Plumet, Cosette is concerned about Valjean being cold and uncomfortable in his rooms and eating black bread. She says she'll come see him so often he'll have to have a fire, and she'll start eating black bread, too. Valjean then starts eating white bread so Cosette won't eat black bread.

!!! The 2012 Film

* When Valjean finds Cosette in the woods, she is terrified of him. To ease her fear, he takes off his hat, gives her a warm smile (all the while looking remarkably like [[TallDarkAndHandsome Hugh Jackman]]) and addresses her as "mademoiselle." Up until this point Cosette has been treated as little more than dirt by every adult that she knows, so his sincere display of kindness instantly wins the little girl over.
** And then (in a nice nod to the novel) he buys her the most magnificent doll in the toy store window--the first Christmas gift ''ever'' for a little girl who up until that point was making do with a bit of twisted-up rag for a toy.
* In the film, when Valjean and Cosette are cornered by Javert, but manage to escape with the help of the man Valjean rescued from the cart earlier.
* A serious PetTheDog moment for Javert in the film version. When he searches the bodies of the revolutionaries for Valjean, he spies the corpse of Gavroche, the very boy who ratted him out, endangering his life among the revolutionaries. He bends over, takes off a medal he wears, and remorsefully puts it on Gavroche, as if symbolic of his growing humanity.
* The composition of a new song for the film, 'Suddenly', which was added to show the wonder of Valjean and Cosette quickly coming to love each other. It is ''beautiful.''
-->''Suddenly the world seems a different place,''
-->''Somehow full of grace, full of light.''
-->''How was I to know that so much hope was held inside me?''
-->''What is past is gone, now we journey on through the night...''
* In another nod to the novel, when [[spoiler: Enjolras]] is cornered and about to be shot, [[spoiler: Grantaire]] appears in the doorway. He doesn't even look at the soldiers but goes straight to [[spoiler: Enjolras']] side, where they share a [[HoYay meaningful look]] before facing the soldiers together. If you look closely, at the moment before they are shot, you can see [[TakeMyHand them clasp hands.]]
** Worth noticing is that the soldiers allow this moment. They could've shot both on sight but instead allowed this final moment.
* The final scenes of the film have the deceased characters singing as the French rises up in revolution. It's also a nice reminder that all their deaths were not for nothing.
* After Valjean stops Javert from arresting Fantine, he carries her to the hospital himself.
* This exchange:
-->'''Valjean''': ''Where I go, you will be.''
-->'''Cosette''': ''Will you be like a Papa to me?''
-->'''Valjean''': ''Yes, Cosette! This is true! I'll be father and mother to you!''
* The Bishop appearing to greet Valjean as he enters Heaven.

* Shortly after Valjean rescues Cosette from the Thenardiers, he watches her sleep and realizes that, for the first time in 25 years, he feels love for another person. "All the passion and affection within him awoke, and rushed towards that child. He approached the bed, where she lay sleeping, and trembled with joy. He suffered all the pangs of a mother, and he knew not what it meant; for that great and singular movement of a heart which begins to love is a very obscure and a very sweet thing."
