* The composition of a new song for the film, 'Suddenly', which was added to show the wonder of Valjean and Cosette quickly coming to love each other. It is ''beautiful.''

* In the film, at least (been a while since I've seen it on the stage) when Valjean and Cosette are cornered by Javert, but manage to escape with the help of the man Valjean rescued from the cart earlier.
** The musical (at least the American version) passes over the character who helps Valjean for time purposes.
* A serious PetTheDog moment for Javert in the film version. When he searches the bodies of the revolutionaries for Valjean, he spies the corpse of Gavroche, the very boy who ratted him out, endangering his life among the revolutionaries. He bends over, takes off his badge, and remorsefully puts it on Gavroche, as if symbolic of his growing humanity.
** If I remember correctly (pardon me if this comes across as being too picky regarding words), that's not a badge (like a police officer's badge). Its a medal, most likely one awarded for heroism or for oustanding service as an inspector, making it even more meaningful in my mind.

** And then (in a nice nod to the novel) he buys her the most magnificent doll in the toy store window--the first Christmas gift ''ever'' for a little girl who up until that point was making to with a bit of twisted-up rag for a toy.

* Valjean taking Cosette from the Thenardiers. Cosette's situation was so terrible, there wasn't a person reading who didn't want ''someone'' to rescue her, and ''he did it''. A refreshing example of an inverted BreakTheCutie...Heal The Cutie? Rescue The Cutie? Whatever you call it.

* As well as [[spoiler: Valjean's death]], which leads to a reprise of "Do You Hear the People Sing."

* "Bring Him Home" always puts this Troper to tears.
* "A Little Fall of Rain" is probably the most heartbreaking duet in musical theatre history.
--> Éponine: "Don't you fret, Monsieur Marius, I don't feel any pain, a little fall of rain, can hardly hurt me now, you're here, that's all I need to know."
* Valjean sparing Javert's life at the barricade.

** The excellent 1934 French epic film ends like that as well, and it is very effective.
* Even the Thénardiers toadying up to the rich Valjean can't change the heartwarming power of his claiming Cosette. "I shall not forsake my vow -- Cosette shall have a father now."
* In the 25th anniversary concert, you can see Javert singing in the final "Do you hear the people sing?"
** Javert is also present during the finale in the Finnish production.

* Gavroche taking care of two little boys left alone on the street. All of this is made of [[SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments Fuzzy Feel]] but it gets even more fuzzy when you remember those boys are his little brothers. And he doesn't know.

* Gillenormand reconciling with Marius after the barricades fall.
